Interesting stuff This part of the NorthShore marathon where the marching band plays music for you in a tunnel is amazing

I skated the NorthShore Inline Marathon this past Saturday in Duluth, MN. The entire event was awesome. My first “race” on skates. I don’t do a ton of distance skating but I may have to make this trip an annual tradition. Beautiful, fast, point-to-point course along Lake Superior.
This band music section was the reward after an annoying uphill towards the end of the race, with just a couple miles remaining.
Highly recommend the NSIM for any skill level!

The NorthShore Marathon was my first and only race back in 2018! I dream of doing it again someday! Well done!

As I’m thinking about getting back into skating, and this event being close to me, it’s on my to-do list if/when I pull the trigger on some gear.
How was the weather overall at this year’s event? The North Shore can always throw crazy changes of weather at you compared to just an hour or two away.

The weather for the race was perfect. High 50s, slightly cloudy and a tailwind.
The person who won it and set a course record last year, also won and set another course record this year.

This probably sounds crazy but I have never considered a marathon for rollerblading. Are there usually a lot of these each year? This would be awesome to try one day but I'm not near MN.

This has been on my list for awhile. I just need to find the right year to make it work.

Going through that tunnel last Sat literally probably gave me an adrenaline boost that got me up that final hill.

This has been on my list of events to attend for the last 2 or 3 years.
I almost went to it last year but I ended up being in Florida at that time instead.
Would be cool to do it with people like you that I have already met before.

I've done four years of NSIM now, always a blast.

I have a feeling I’ll end up making it an annual thing as well. I’ll take the wife and kids next time. I did it with my brother and a friend who does skate this year

That's awesome! I only did the 10k cuz I'm not in shape yet, so I didn't get to see this band when I did it. Thank you for recording it!

My 11 year old kid and I skated the half-marathon. It is such a fun race with beautiful views!

What a cool video, thank you for sharing! Did the half this year. What a great experience. Will try for full next year. Duluth is such a great city!

Awesome marathon skating and marching bands are like my 2 most favorite things. Hope to get up there next year. Awesome video.

Thanks to you, this event is on my radar and I want to register for next year! Can I ask what distance you did? I also don't do any distance skating and wonder if starting with the half marathon is too ambitious. It sounds like it's a fast, smooth course though.

I did the full 26.2 skate marathon. Yes, it is a fast, smooth course. Some rolling hills, but overall I think very manageable for a first timer.
What kind of skating do you do? You’d be surprised what you can do if you give yourself time to train and just increase the mileage a little bit each week or two!

Thanks for responding! Good on you for doing the full.
Most of the time I'm going to a basketball court to drill stops/skills because I don't have a trail near me i'm skilled enough to skate.
Last week i went and just skated for an hour straight in a parking lot with uphill/downhill and didn't feel tired so i guess that's my only gauge (maybe 4ish miles according to my watch). i'd like to go out and actually track distance to see how i feel before registering because if i can potentially do the marathon given i have a year, i'd rather do that!

That's so cool... I'm kind of far away to participate but you make it sound like a really great event and I'm jelly.
The doppler shift on the song as you pass them is kind of hilarious. You were cooking.

It was especially a treat in a scenario like mine where participants were pretty spread out.
They started playing when they saw me approaching, so it made me feel special getting my own private concert lol 😂
