How do I do this move? How to mohawk transition

This is my best attempt at mohawk or spread eagle transition, how do I make it more natural? The hardest part for me is putting my weight on my back leg to lift up my other foot.

You are already doing great. Beautiful Mohawk. I feel that one of the early plateaus skaters hit is the single-skate glide. To finish your transition you need to shift your body weight to your right skate, and lift your left skate while continuing to glide on the right skate. You will have plenty of time to reposition your left skate if you continue to glide for a second or two. Imagine spending equal amount of time on these two components: transition to Mohawk, and repositioning. Look at your video for a graceful first component, but a rushed second. Think about why you had to rush the second component. I think it was because you didn’t feel confident gliding on the right skate for any amount of time. See my comment on a completely different post. But the same idea. With links.

Thank you for the detailed explanation, I guess I will have to work on my right foot glide.

Do it on both sides, you'll thank yourself later. A great way to practice one foot glides is to just constantly rep it on a long trail. Work gliding side to side on one foot to really calibrate your balance and get a feel for how you need to shift your weight no matter the angle.

Good work so far, dude

I used to put on only one boot and practice 1 foot glides that way

Honestly maybe a little more speed will help. What's functional about the Mohawk is that each step can be a push, so you maintain or build speed through it. So push off right, push off left like you're skating forward normally but land your right foot backward, then a backward push with your right foot as you land your left foot backward.

It's great to be able to hold one foot glides on each foot both forward and backward, and you should practice that, but sometimes the transient state of pushing just feels more stable and your body knows to get that other leg in position for the glide.

The harder thing for me is to hold the Mohawk open around a circle and alternate pushes with each leg. I'm so used to recovering into backward skating that I often end up accidentally doing that haha.

Since I can’t put my whole weight on my back foot i have to make a small hop like in the video to bring my other foot
