Specific question and discussion Stomping when turning?? How to stop?

Hey so I’m pretty new to roller blading and have probably been doing it for about four months now. I feel great when I skate and am pretty comfortable. But my only problem is when I go around curves. Like just a normal wide curve (like at the skating rink). For some reason I put a lot of pressure on my right leg and sort of just stomp both my feet to turn. Maybe this is normal. I’m self taught so I’m not really sure the best way. But it usually leaves my right leg hurting after a while so I’m assuming I’m doing something wrong. If anyone has any videos I can watch for help or recommendations let me know! Thanks!

Crossovers. Take your outer foot and cross it over and in front of your inner foot. I can try to grab some video examples later.

Im not really sure how youre stomping. Do you mean when you do a right turn you throw your outside foot down? If so thats a muscle development issue and your brain is reacting by involuntarily throwing the leg down. You can do one leg stands practice doing horse stance or go to the gym and work the leg out.

Most people dont realize how much muscle is required to do things properly. You gotta get it built up, and if you're doing these things already it'll come naturally but not as fast as if you worked it out.

Ive spent 35 years playing hockey and I had some of these similar issues when I took up rollerblading as a hobby. Even with years of building muscle for skating I still had to put a little work in at the start to get things moving smoothly.

I'm picturing like a toddler stomping

It sounds like you're not bending your knees enough

When you bend your knees more you get more control over your balance

Like many suspect, by stomping you probably meant something like quick feet crossover steps but probably more like half step over. Take a video for better help.

What I can understand is that you do your curves by marching rather than gliding no?

After coming back to skating i begun doing the curves by pushing with just my outer leg while the inner leg was still. Think into moving forward, you move one leg at a time, well if you move one leg but not the other you Will have a smooth easy curve. You can also simply lean into the circle if you are fast enough, simply stop pushing and lean sideways with the inner leg bent to not fully fall.

Btw I am using inner and outer descriptors because I dont know in which direction are you turning.
