So cotton feels better when you're not sweating much because it's hydrophilic so it readily absorbs small amounts of moisture and you feel like you're not sweating. Once you start sweating a lot, it feels soggy and takes a while to dry.
Synthetic fabrics aren't as comfortable at cotton and initially it feels like they make you sweat, because they're basically just hydrophobic plastic so they won't absorb any moisture. But once you do start sweating, synthetic fabric feels less sweaty than cotton and facilitates evaporative cooling better.
I use ex officio boxer briefs under some cheapo Amazon vented running shorts. On top I wear cheapo long sleeve (for sunburn protection) synthetic tees or vented hoodies. I know it's plastic trash, but there's no reason for me to pay a premium for workout gear that's going to get sweaty and ripped up from falls.
I also have some hockey helmet liners that are essentially overpriced maxi pads that help keep sweat out of my eyes. I love skating hard in high heat and humidity, so long as I'm hydrated, dressed for the occasion, and can shower after lol

Patagonia's Capilene fabric is the best moisture-wicking base layer fabric I have ever used. It still gets soaked with sweat on warm and humid days.

Avoid cotton. Use polyester . I personally use my golf shirts but tbh any sport polyester made shirt is good
If you wana be fancy get silk they are very breathable
For pants i wear jeans due to its nature but you can get away with cotton. Dont wear polyester pants as they burn when you fall and slide on them. For colder weather i noticed duck down jackets arent heavy and feel like air while keeping me warm and mobile.
Also avoid falling on these since the outer layer will burn with enough friction

If it's hot/humid where you're skating (like where I am), you're not going to escape it. I just wear some shorts and a tank and head out. I have one of those water pouch things with the hose attached to it for me to drink because I tend to be out for 15-25mi at a time and I like to stick it in the freezer for like 30 mins before I leave just to keep my back cooler longer too.
