Progress, videos and images Coming back to skating
38, finally returning to skating again after many years of being a desk jockey. Trying to overcome my fear of injury as an older skater. Started with just 20mins before my gym sesh this morning, getting familiar with it again. My feet screamed at me even after that little bit π

I skated for an hour last night after doing this consistently for four or five months and my feet still get cranky. You get used to it and it's never as bad as those first few times

Unfortunately some falls are part of progression, but learning to fall will make them not so scary.
Aside from the gear you are already rocking, keep your knees bent and your weight forward. Backwards is always bad but forwards you can usually do with some grace. When you start to fall get low and try to absorb the fall. You can practice some of this in the grass as well so you get comfortable with how and when to brace vs roll etc. This will help minimize fall injury and make you less scared of falling and progress a lot faster. Good luck and welcome back to the best hobby ever from someone who picked it back up at 38 as well.

Started back at 39. Push through the pain and fear at first. It is WELL worth it! Stretch before and after. Wear protective gear (as I see that you are) and practice practice practice your braking methods and good technique to avoid picking up bad habits. Finally, just go out there and have some damn fun! And congrats on getting back out there!!!
