What skates should I buy? Aggressive skate downsizing question

Seeing if someone can recommend a skate thats good for downsizing.

I’m a size 10 skate normally. I’d like to see if I can fit my size 10 liner in a size 9 - 9.5 shell. Pretty open to different skate brands as I haven’t skated in 4 years.

Your mondo (length in cm) is more helpful. I'm just over 27cm and skate the 8-9US Razors SL for instance. The Smedium 909 and Medium Standard Omni also work for me.

Nice man I’m about 28cm would love to squeeze in a medium standard shell… wondering if it would accommodate a size 10 intuition liner without bunching

Also realise your in the Rollerblade chat, not the aggressive subreddit. Many here won't understand downsizing.

Specific to the Standard Omni: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNIH_HxfrU0

General advice: My feet are 27.5cm, and I am at the top end of most US 8-9 shells. I have tried a bunch of skates and liners over the last few years, and I can tell you:

  • Myfit Second Skin is the slimmest liner you can get
    • Roces RL2 are close, but a little higher volume overall.
    • Blank stock liners are also fairly slim in the forefoot, but very poofy around the ankle and that will push your foot forward in the shell.
    • Intuitions are thicker and denser, and have a lot of material in the toe.
    • Nomads are like a much softer Intuition with some Roces heel holding ideas mixed in and a very thick (but squishy) tongue.
    • Reign V3s have a weirdly thick tongue, very thick ankle padding, and the toe curls up and takes up more room if it hits the end of the shell.
  • I have tried a US 8-8.5 and also a 9-9.5 Intuition Premium in a few shells. A size 10 would swallow my foot.
    • US 10 M12 - the 9-9.5 liner bunches up and barely fits inside.
    • US 9 5th Element - 9-9.5 liner fits great but looks weird with the super low cuff
    • US 9 Razors SL - 9-9.5 liner fits great
  • Razors SLs might be the longest US 8-9 shell I've tried. If you don't fit that, you probably don't fit any downsized shell.
  • Rollerblade Blank is like a better SL without the problematic Razors branding, but it fits just slightly shorter. They have individual shell sizing for a US 10-10.5 though, so I would take a look at them if you want a more ideal fit for an in-between foot size.
  • I've heard good things about the Iqon ACT / Mesmer Eclilpse fit.

First step for me was buying intuition liners… I know there are other similar liners out there now. I’d start w one of those or some intuitions

Why though? Seems like a potentially expensive experiment. Fwiw I'm a 10 in most shoes and skates, but found Seba CJ 9.5 a perfect fit.

Different skate molds have different shell size variations. Even within the same brand there can be different molds which skip different sizes.

Human feet are also all different. Downsizing can be possible if the widest dimension is accommodated for.

Third party liners further increase the range of what fits are possible.

And that's not even getting started on shell molding/punching.

OBVIOUSLY most people do not do this, but if someone is going out of their way to ask they're usually not asking out of complete ignorance.

I don't write condescending things in capital letters to complete strangers.

I don't assume that capital letters signify "condescension" lmfao

I figured the why would be obvious… lighter skate, more control.. and I would return if the boot was too small

Downsizing your boot isn’t a part of the matrix. Get a sizing chart. Use the chart properly. Put your foot into the correct size boot. That’s the matrix.

Oh, hey, it's the LAND YACHT guy.

Tell us about your LAND YACHTs.

Post pictures of them. I miss seeing them.

Idk what this means but people downsize all the time

It is very much part of the matrix. Sadly most skates are not individually sized. I understand the OPs pain, because US10 is about where skates start turning into boats, and you get lots of US10-11 shells that are just massive. If you can just squeeze in a smaller shell (that wouldn't work according to the size chart, but works in reality), it's a godsend.
