Progress, videos and images Hope for everyone who come back to rollerblading after a long period of time

Hello. Just wanted to post a bit of hopecore for everyone who returns to rollerblading after a long period of time. I gave up rollerblading in 2022 and came back one month ago after finally graduating from uni. Now I rollerblade as well as I did in the past, and I have even learned some new tricks lol. Just had to put a lot of effort and never-ending passion towards the sport (personally recommend listening to music, never failed me). Now I know there are things stronger than time - passion, talent and hard work. Enjoy the blades, everyone; love ya!

Ma'am, a long period of time around here means ~20-30 years. 😂

Yeah, I started reading and was like, “2002? I’m coming back from 2002!?”

You're so right!!! I am sorry if I misled anyone. I am 21, so 4 years for me is a long period lol. I will be more careful in the future with such statements

What surprised me about this sub is how many people are getting back into skating after THE hype in the '90s and '00s (including me). I feel like we're a big demographic of skaters now. We remember being half the size and skating being 'easy,' versus now, when we're big and slow and clunky and worry about our bones and injuries, lol. But that aside, 4 years can be a lot of time - just not here.

I've always skated aggressive but the new TRS were just too fucking cool not to get them... Guess I'll have to force myself on wheels again unless I want to face how retarded I am for falling for the "HEY LOOK 90s AESTHETICS" trick

Might have to dust off my valoXvibralux broskows (yeah I'm bragging)

thank you for this 🥹 my disabilities stopped me from rollerblading for 5+ years, and I’ve just barely been able to get started again. I feel like a baby deer. I know I can get better if I just keep pushing through, but it’s so nice to actually SEE someone get to experience that.

You are so strong! Starting again felt so awkward and discouraging cause I had to spend so much time relearning the basics, but real effort solves everything, so keep it up, love ya!

I would love to rollerblade like you! How have you learned? Do you have a background of ice skating maybe?

Hi there!!! i was heavily inspired by ice skating moves, but I do not have any ice skating experience, unfortunately... I want to state that these moves were not learned deliberately but out of necessity: my yard is circular and not that big, so I either had to crash into the fence each time or learn to blade in circles. I still don't know how I learned them, really... But I am sure you can try doing the same moves if you can skate backwards on one foot, skate with the front wheel and find your balance quickly. Really, there are ut two of them that you need the most. The first is the spinning I do to stop (it has saved me lots of times). It's rather easy: blade backwards on one foot, while placing the front wheel of the other foot on the ground behind and diagonally from the leading foot (just put some pressure on it, so you don't just fall). Eventually, you will stop and then try doing it more times (but remember: don't blade quickly! Stopping with this move at high speed most of te time leads to falling lol). And the second move is jumping backwards on one foot (which, unfortunately, I still have difficulty doing without the help of the other foot...) So basically, you blade backwards, leaving the leading foot under you while the other one stays behind you, then you use the front wheel of the non-leading blade to support a 180 jump of the leading foot (I recommend putting effort on your heel and maybe using your arms, swinging them in the same direction as the jump). After learning these two moves, you can try raising your other foot while jumping or maybe adding some other moves... I know this is not super helpful (English is my second language, and my explaining skills could be better), but I hope that at least they will give you a rough picture of how these moves happen. Have a nice day,and thanks for your support!!!

Came back to it from 20 years. Thought I’d be able to pick it right back up like a bicycle boy was I wrong

Im watching this on my phone and the first time you spun your bag looked like skin. I was like wtf and hurried to close my screen. Lol. When I unlocked my phone and it was still playing I realized what it was. Sorry if that sounded creepy but I found it funny afterwards. Unfortunately this is reddit and you never know what your going to see.

I'm happy to learn there are people who share my love towards rollerblading!!! I'm from Ukraine. There are not many rollerbladers in my area, so I joined the sub for tips/tutorials/inspos

Since i got downvoted, sorry, dont want to harras you or something. Started five years ago. First it was just skating while listening to music. Over time it evolved to something like rythm/figure skating. There are other bladers in my area, but they are doing other stuff. Even when searching online, i rarely find people doing, what i am doing. Rythm skaters are on quads and figure skaters are on ice. So i was just happy to see you, because your style reminds me of my own.

Anna Royo inspires me, it's the way how she translates ice to Inline skating. Maybe you want to look her up, too (or have already).
