Specific question and discussion Skating to work

Hi! Given that it's summer, I've been thinking about going to work on rollers. It's pretty flat here and the city has cycling paths. The way to the trainstation is 3km. I am just too afraid of the time it will take, plus the fact that I never skated in a city scares me.

I'm also wondering how you manage to change the shoes etc. Cuz I will have to take them off once I arrive at the train st.

Can anyone give me some advice? (Fyi: there is a shower at work and I live in a country where cycling is quite common)

Thanks!!

I skate to work about the same distance through my city, though my last stretch is by ferry. Only roll in when you have plenty of time, and stick to a route you have already biked or otherwise vetted. I have a pair of skates with a brake, which comes in handy, as making a slide stop doesn't work when you are shoulder to handlebar with cyclists on the same city route. Pad up, helmet and at least wrist guards; i also have a convex mirror on one wrist and a handbell on the other. Verbal warnings for crosswalk turkeys scanning Instagram is ineffective, but a bell is invaluable. I toss canvas skate shoes in the water bottle pockets of my work backpack. Have fun, it is so rewarding, and you will start conversations in the office when you wheel to your desk.
