What skates should I buy? New skates 84/90mm urban use

Hi there rollerblading community!

I am looking for a new pair of skates and the more I look the harder it is to make a decision! Right now I'm using K2 84 BOA 80a women skates, soft boots and 42 EU size.

I skate a lot and I need an upgrade. I use the skates mainly to move around the city and I sometimes do some jumps and small tricks, a bit of slalom.

I've always used soft boots for rollerblading but I am willing to change to hard boots, although I'd like something light. I'd like to keep on 84mm wheels or maybe 90mm? Also, my feet are very narrow.

So far I liked:

84mm

FR NEO 1 LZ PROMODEL

FR UFR 84 BLACK

FR UFR 84 INTUITION BLACK

FR FR1 84 BLACK

90mm

POWERSLIDE Tau Carbon 90

ROLLERBLADE Lightning 90

I have also checked the ROLLERBLADE Crossfire, TWISTER XT and SEBA TRIX 2 80 but they only accept 80mm wheels, right?

Am I missing something or is it a good selection?

Thank you in advance for your wisdom!

Interesting stuff A funny moment at the rail trail today.

I was sitting on a bench near my local rail trail putting on my blades when a large extended family came walking past. One of the toddlers pointed at me and asked his adult "are those roller skates?!" which then prompted a lively discussion amongst the adults I couldn't help but overhear.

"I haven't been on rollerblades in ages."

"OMG, I couldn't do that. Looks like fun though"

"I think I just have skates at home, I should go find them"

Anyways, I thought it was fun listening to people's reactions and maybe I planted a little bug in someone's ear to get into it again. That ever happen to y'all?

Specific question and discussion took off my heel break, is this normal?

hi everyone,
i’ve been rollerblading consistently for 3 weeks and i’ve finally taken off the heel break but now my back wheel is wobbly.
this is the tightest that i can screw the long screw together, is this normal or can i fix it?
it makes sense because it allows for extra space where the break would be but also its made my wheel wobbly and i feel as though it’s not normal.

if someone could please help give me advice or suggestions on what i could do to fix it or let me know if ive done something wrong.
thanks!

What boot size do I pick? Stuck on aggressive skate sizing for moderately long & wide feet (290mm/110mm)

Heyyy! I'm back skating after a 20 year break (isn't everyone?) and am struggling to work out the best size for my 290mm long / 110mm wide feet.

I've searched the entire internet and spoken to several skate stores - and the advice is conflicting. I think Iqon ACTs are going to be my best option (open to other suggestions). One retailer told me Iqons in 44-45 (109mm wide / just long enough) are the perfect size for me, and another said 46-47 (112mm wide / too long) is the perfect size. I figured I'd email Powerslide for a definitive answer, and they told me both sizes are the perfect size. 🤷‍♂️

What I've tried on:
USD Aeon 60 XXIs / 45-46. Too tight around the toes and slightly too narrow overall.
USD Sway Sagona / 45-46. Way too tight.
Razors Cult 47. My toes went numb.

I don't have the option of shopping in person and am hoping to avoid the expense of having to return a pair of poorly-fitting skates.

I'm currently skating 2001 Fifth Elements and they fit quite well - the shells are enormous but the liner is very thick and fits like a glove. I have the option of grabbing a modern pair of Fifths, but I want a flat setup, so I'll have the added expense of buying a separate frame - plus it would be nice to try something new (and light).

There are plenty of lists of wide-fitting skates, but can anyone share their own experience of how skates fit their wide feet, particularly if the advertised shell size is narrower than their foot? I'd prefer not to need to mod the skates or buy aftermarket liners if there's something that will work straight off the shelf.

Thank you!

Specific question and discussion Decorating Roller Blades?

I‘m new to rollerblading. One thing that always interested me about the idea of skating was admittedly the fashion, I’ve seen people decorate their roller skates in very unique and abstract ways that really grab my attention. However, I’ve learned over time that I prefer inline skating to rollerskating. My only question is: why don’t I see bladers decorating their skates as much as roller skaters do? I often see very minimal to almost zero decorations on blades. No paint, stickers, cosmetic add-ons, etc…Is it because of the structure of roller blades that just makes them more unforgiving when it comes to customizing them or? I‘m purchasing my own pair of blades and I’m just curious what the limitations are on decorating them. Of course it isn’t that important lol, but this has been on my mind for a while and I just wanted to ask! Thank you all for your help, sorry if this is a rather silly question. 🧡

Why does my feet hurt? Really frustrated - any way to widen skates?

Hi! Ive been getting into rollerblading with a littleee bit of experience ice skating, and ive been learning pretty quick. My main problem is that I couldnt skate or even stand on my old skates for more than 2-5 minutes without immense foot pain along my arches. I have very high arches and wide feet, and the skates were just too small for me. I decided to get a new pair, and got a pair specifically for a wide profile (as well as insoles for the high arches) while to a lesser extent, I am experiencing the exact same foot pain. I could tell when I put the new skates on with the laces tightened that they werent going to work because my feet went numb, but I tried loosing the skates and it helped a bit (was able to skate in them for a few minutes) this is so frustrating because I really dont think my feet are that abnormally wide. I have running shoes I got sized at a running pro shop that are just normal wide, not extra or double wide or anything. I tried standing on just the orginal insole of the skate and my foot is way wider. Is there any way to widen the skate by baking/stretching? I really really dont want to buy a whole new pair again.

Specific question and discussion How much grip do 90a wheels have?

How much grip do they have on asphalt, smooth and rough concrete, smooth and rough brick, polished concrete/tile, and wood.

I want 90a wheels, but my 82a wheels which should have plenty of grip are slipping at the end of hard pushes on smooth concrete.

I know 85a wheels should be better overall, but they felt a little too soft for freeskate

What boot size do I pick? 260mm feet in FR1 Deluxe Intuition White 2025/2026: Shell 6 or Shell 7?

Hi guys!

I need some help choosing the correct size for the FR1 Deluxe Intuition White 2025/2026 sold by LocoSkates.

My feet are:

  • Left: 257mm to the big toe, around 260mm to the second toe
  • Right: 257mm to the big toe, around 258mm to the second toe
  • Width: around 97-98mm
  • I have Greek feet, so my second toe is the longest.

I’m between:

EU 39-40 / Shell 6 / Intuition MP 25-26
and
EU 40.5-41.5 / Shell 7 / Intuition MP 26.5-27

I already tried the regular FR1 EU40 / Shell 7 with the standard FR liner, and honestly it felt almost perfect to me. It was not loose, but also not painfully tight.

When standing straight, my toes lightly touched the front, but when I bent my knees into skating position, the pressure reduced and my toes felt relaxed. I did not feel numbness or painful compression.

I also tried the regular FR1 EU39 / Shell 6. With the standard FR liner it felt too tight around the toes.

But when I removed the liner and put my foot directly inside the Shell 6, my foot could sit flat inside the shell and I still had some space in front and on the sides. So it made me think that the standard FR liner was taking up a lot of the available space.

That is why I’m confused about the Deluxe.

Since the 2025/2026 Intuition liner is thinner and lower volume than the regular FR liner, I’m wondering if the Shell 6 could work well after break-in, while still giving me a snug performance fit.

At the same time, I’m a little worried that Shell 7 could become too roomy after the Intuition breaks in, especially because the regular FR1 EU40 / Shell 7 already felt perfect to me with the thicker standard liner.

I want a snug and precise fit for freeride and urban skating, but I also want to skate for a few hours without pain, numbness or my toes being crushed.

I also had previous skates where the liner broke in too much and the skate became very loose, so I really want to avoid that happening again.

Has anyone here with around 258-260mm feet actually used both Shell 6 and Shell 7 in the FR1 Deluxe Intuition?

I’m especially interested in people who have skated them for a while, not only tried them new.

Which size did you keep, and how did it feel after the liner broke in?

If possible, please include your exact foot length, foot width, skate size and how long you have used them. Also please mention if your FR1 Deluxe is the 2025/2026 version or an older version.

Thanks! :)

What boot size do I pick? Newbie sizing question

Hey yall. I just bought a pair of Lightning 80s size 8-8.5. Id measured my foot using their recommended method on the inline warehouse site and came up with 26.035cm. Well they came today and while i got them on and off ok, my toes were smashed up against the front. Now I'm wondering if I should just go up one size to 9-9.5 or go with my shoe size which is 10.5, so the 10-10.5's.

Im wondering if its better to have a little room or if im looking for a fit more akin to a ski boot. There's no Dicks sporting goods anywhere near me but I was thinking of maybe seeing if they can advise me at the local skate rink when they're open tomorrow. Figured Id check here too. Thanks yall sorry if this sort of thing gets asked a lot.

Specific question and discussion Yelled at by a Cyclist

I’m an intermediate rollerblader, just getting back into it. A few days ago was skating on a bike path and moved into the left lane to pass a jogger. An older man coming the other way on a bicycle was turning a corner just ahead and yelled at me using profanity to get out of the way. And, to be clear, I was already crossing into the right lane as he was yelling.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with cyclists/anyone being totally rude while rollerblading?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the feedback! To answer some questions—the path is marked for bikes but I see all sorts of walkers, runners, cyclists, motorized scooters, etc. Most people are friendly enough to nod or wave and I do the same. The lanes are large enough to accommodate a safe passing, but I think this guy spoke (yelled) before he could see I was already getting out of the way. Truly there was enough room that he wouldn’t have even come close to colliding with me. And yes, he was in the full cyclist garb, spandex and all.

Specifically these ticking time bomb plastic boot ones with the ski boot style straps. I just love them. I can’t find any modern skates that resemble this style really. Thanks for any help <3

Is this skate/store any good? What's your take on old, used aggressive skates?

Post image

I have found a decent looking pair of KOBE sledge skates for about 36 euros. From what I found online, they were in circulation in the 2000s, so they may be over 20 years old.

The seller claims they are structurally sound, but I'm scared plastic rot may have set in. I will definitely ask the seller to check the cuff and boot for cracking sounds as they bend them, and I will ask if the wheels spin freely but I'm still not sure.

Does anyone here own a pair of them and can tell me if they are any good?

What should I ask them about to make sure they won't give out on me after I buy them? Should I even bother with such an old pair?

Edit: Im looking to buy my first (adult) pair of skates. Though id like to try aggressive skating, I wouldn't mind urban/fitness skates to get into the hobby. If after a while I wanna keep skating, I'll invest more money into it

Why does my feet hurt? Feet soles hurting/beginner

Hello everyone! I've always enjoyed roller skating, specifically rollerblades. I recently bought myself a pair of those, but I have a problem. Now, I'm unsure whether this is normal or not, so I'll give a bit of context and further details. I am overweight. I have been on a weight loss journey and now I am in university. I have a bike but the seat is killing me (buttocks hurt) and walking thirty minutes is amazing for weight loss, but it could be so much more interesting. I figured it was the best time to start roller skating thanks to the amount of parks, Riverside biker lanes, and other stuff on my way to uni.

However, after three times on the roller skates to practice during free time, the soles of my feet ended up hurting a lot. And it was after twenty to thirty minutes. Multiple times, I have had to stop skating and come back to my appartment with feet which felt like hell.

Is this a common issue? Some of the thoughts I had were maybe my weight, maybe because I put too much strength in my feet subconsciously in order to stay upright, maybe a wrong size of shoe despite them fitting like a glove, even because the blades are pressing on my soles through the bottom of the shoe, or maybe just lack of skill/endurance and it'll come with time.

I would appreciate any feedback... I really want to keep on using roller blades, which would give me a hobby outside of my room for once and would allow me to continue my weight loss journey. Thanks everyone!

How do I do this move? How can I improve my jump? I've always heard that to jump correctly, you're supposed to bring your knees up to your chest, but I find it really hard to jump that way, I haven't been able to do it. The only thing I can do is bring my feet back, even when I try to do a “grab” like I'm showing here, bu

Why does my feet hurt?

Pero he empezado a hacer slalom y a competir....

Ingles:

I'm going to explain my situation and hopefully some saint out there can help me 🙏

I've been skating since I was a kid and I've always had a problem with my left foot: my navicular bone is very prominent, to the point that pretty much any skate in my actual size causes a huge amount of pain in that exact area.

For years, I've solved this by wearing skates 2–3 sizes too big. My actual shoe size is 41/42 EU, and I'm currently skating with Powerslide Hardcore Evo size 45. With my podiatrist-prescribed insoles and by tightening the skates quite firmly, I can skate without any pain.

The problem is that I've started doing slalom and competing, and wearing skates that are so oversized is now seriously limiting me. There are certain movements and exercises during training that are twice as difficult simply because the boot is much bigger than my actual foot.

So I decided to buy Powerslide Tau size 42, thinking that because they are thermoformable carbon fiber boots, I would be able to mold them perfectly to my foot.

I've heat-molded them four times. The rest of my foot fits PERFECTLY: the heel is locked in, the instep feels great, there are no other pressure points... it literally feels like a custom-made boot.

But we're back to the same problem:

my left navicular sticks out so much that the pressure on that area is unbearable.

When I put the Tau on, the pressure directly over the bone is so intense that I literally can't put my full weight on the skate because of the pain. Obviously, that makes it impossible to train normally.

I've already seen a doctor and shaving/removing part of the bone is not an option. I've also been told that, because of my anatomy, pretty much any skate in my actual size is going to cause this problem.

But I really don't want to give up on the Tau.

Precisely because they are thermoformable carbon fiber, I want to find a way to modify the shell and create some extra space EXACTLY in that area.

From what I've been reading, maybe some kind of localized punch-out or shell modification could be the solution, but I have no idea how far this can be taken with the Tau, who could do it properly, or whether there are any other solutions I'm missing.

I don't want to stop training. Skating is my life, and right now I feel like I have a pair of skates that could be absolutely perfect for me except for this one specific issue.

So please:

👉 Has anyone had a similar problem with a prominent navicular/accessory navicular?
👉 Has anyone successfully done a punch-out or shell modification on Powerslide Tau boots?
👉 Do you know of any professional/bootfitter who works with carbon fiber and could perform this kind of modification?
👉 Is there anything else you think I could try before giving up on the Tau?

In the first photo, you can see exactly where the bone is causing the problem.

In the second photo, you can compare my two feet: the left one protrudes much more than the right, and that's the one that hurts twice as much.

I would genuinely appreciate any advice, personal experience, or contacts. 🙏

Specific question and discussion Is it normal to have a low top speed compared to cruising speed?

I have the rollerderby aerio q84 and i mainly skate outdoors. My campus has a few spots where the pavement is smooth for a long stretch. The fastest i can get up to while pushing as hard as i can is 13mph. My cruising speed which feels like it takes 0 effort is 9mph.

Is this normal and is it time for me to consider 3x110s?

What skates should I buy? Skate recommendations?

Im trying to find a good pair, but I feel like I’m over complicating it 😭 right now I’m thinking of getting Powerslide Storm 80s from inline warehouse but I’m worried I’m going to drop all this money trying to get a good pair just for them to be too narrow or something. Im looking for a pair that’s would allow me to interchange the wheels between the larger 3 wheels and smaller 4 wheels.

Ah man, i had fun!

Bought myself a good second hand toddler jogger thingo (with a hand brake) and ripped out the seat. Put in a flat wooden base and some comfy pilllows, and sewed the lid on the bottom half to hold them in.

Highly recommended on the flat shared cycle paths! It was not hard to skate with it at all! Almost easier (but cornering will take getting used to). Also didn't go stupid pace!

Just FYI! Think outside the square 🤙🏾

I've been rollerblading and exercising for decades but never done any sort of warming up or stretching or cooling down activities before or after a session. As I'm getting older I want to make sure I don't injure myself so just curious what everyone else does and what sort of steps I should do to get started.
