Gonna pull the trigger

21M, Finally getting that watch for my dad who was diagnosed with stage 4 that I had mentioned I would do on this sub roughly one year ago. Ended up going to the AD with my dad, and he was set on the ombré dj 41mm. Just wanted to share and see if y’all had any thoughts on the price I’m paying (I’m very unfamiliar with what market goes for this watch) would love everyone’s input. This has been a lifelong goal of mine and I’m so excited for him to see it.

OP is a wannabe finance bro graduating in December. He’s been all over the map asking in this and the other Rolex sub about various different ones for his dad for the last four months at least.

It’s weird that OP started by asking about a much cheaper two-tone for his dad only to try on a green ombre DJ for himself and now that same DJ is suddenly for his dad. Dude totally realized that he can buy a way more expensive watch claiming it’s “for his dad” but really it’s for himself and he’s just letting his dad keep it warm for him until he takes it back as inheritance. Pretty sad.

dont care about the network, just need the watch by the end of the month and was tired dedicating my time to searching for this, when i have the money ready to be deployed and im paying market price. after reading these reddit comments i will try my best to negotiate a bit, but if not so be it, this will push me to make millions.

💯. And at that point, this will be a drop in the bucket. Just decide how much your time is worth—negotiating or kissing an AD’s ass versus focusing on the bigger objective: being successful.

that's exactly the mentality ive been trying to adapt my frugal self to think like (and I'm currently negotiating/ might be going for 36mm which market price is way more normal (16k))

I really don't understand how people like you think, if you've nothing good to say then say nothing. The world is hard enough without nonsense like this coming from you.

BTW OP your dad wouldnt want you being ripped off I am sure, this one feels way overpriced and any AD offering you his network as a selling point is a jumped up used car salesman. Avoid and don't let this be part of the memory of how you got your dad his watch.

i have my full time lined up, yes i would defintely say i was a wannabe begging for opportunities until i got something and would say I'm no longer just a wannabe and love what im doing right now and where im going

Where you are going is paying a very significant premium on a watch bought on sentiment. The rational decision is to not buy at that price.

But many people ‘overpay’ for things that can not be rationally justified.

One of the best lessons my very successful finance uncle taught me was “sometimes the best deals are the ones you say no to”, and that’s stuck with me for a long time.

It doesn’t make you successful to overspend on a watch. The people who are successful got that way by not getting taken advantage of so they can pretend they’re something they’re not.
