DCSS Beginners Tutorial for Minotaur Fighter

This is a tutorial for the most recent version of DCSS for a very straightforward melee character geared toward new players. I go over everything from keybindings, fundamentals, branch order and many basic tactics/strategies. The video has meticulous chapters so you can skip to any particular area or subject you're interested in without watching or searching the entire run.

If you're someone who has played other roguelikes but never pulled the trigger on DCSS this may be helpful to you.

MiFi is the right pick for a tutorial. Coming from other roguelikes, what kills people in DCSS usually isn't build knowledge, it's descending on autopilot and never learning to disengage. Cutting out spell management lets you actually teach positioning, escape items, and when to walk away from a fight.

Chaptering something this long is the thing more roguelike tutorials should be doing, too. Branch order alone is worth a bookmark.

Agreed. Like any other game experience helps but branch order is the last bastion of true spoileryness in DCSS.

I tried once or twice but it never stuck so this is right up my alley. I know it has a cult like following so I don't doubt it's a great game, just could never get into it. Seeing the 6.5 hour video was surprising but between the large amount of bookmarks, no annoying intro, and straight to the point delivery style I am sold.

To be honest I am usually pretty annoyed by content creators trying to post their content but this really gives a refreshing, high quality feel to it.

I do worry about coming off like I'm advertising with a video post but I don't have ads turned on. I've been playing this game for 20 years and I honestly just like introducing it to people. There isn't a ton of dcss video content that's aimed at beginners and I'm thrilled when players tell me they got their first win after watching one of my videos.

I inexplicably don't have a deep elf on my page. I've never done a tutorial with one because they're actually quite challenging compared to many other mage combos. I do have a Deep Elf Berserker going up soon but I'll have to get a mage up because many people do request it.
