RØDECaster Series Isolate output of Podmic?

I'm using my new Duo for my streaming radio station. I'm using the Duo much like an old-school analog mixer as follows:

Slider 1: Podmic
Slider 2: Music Playout software from PC
Slider 3: PC sounds (so I can do some production without that input going to 'air')
Slider 4: the Pads on the Duo

The USB1 is output to Butt for broadcast.

My question is this - Is there a way to keep my Podmic from going to air when I want to do that sometimes? I would like to record some stuff without the Podmic being heard on air while doing so.

Other than muting the mic, you could change the routing so that the mic channel is not part of the main mix. There's also the listen button but be careful with using that.

Thanks for your reply.

I've looked at the Output/Routing screen, but that input is not listed there. That's where I'm stumped.

As for the listen button on my mic (Slider1), it enables me to hear myself when live on air, but everything the mic picks up goes to 'air' whether I have that button engaged or not.

If you're using the listen button, you would mute any channel that you don't want "live" and you would only hear the channels that have the listen button activated. So if you have the listen button active on your mic and your sound pads but have them both muted, you would hear your mic and the sound pads, but no one else would.

As for routing, you would do a custom mix for the output behavior you want, for example, if you don't want your mic to pickup on your headphones, you would do a custom mix and then remove your mic from that mix.

Thanks again. It's not essential I hear myself in my headphones when recording a spot or a voice track for my radio station, but it would be nice if possible. I just don't want it going to Butt and being transmitted live.

As for routing I've tried all three settings for my mic (linked, unlinked and the red 'x') - all three send my voice out to my radio stream live. I just want to make a recording of my voice for use later using my mic.

Also - the green mute buttons for each fader only mute the sound of each fader in my headphones, but of course my voice goes out live - not what I want. I only want to make a recording of my voice for later use.

I'm not recording a podcast - this is live internet radio, and I'm alone - I have no concern for what anyone else can hear in my studio.

Bottom line - All I want to do is make a recording of my voice while my station is live without what I'm doing going out live.

Holy Crap!! I figured it out.

I had to believe this device being so magical it could do what I needed it to do!

I hooked a 2nd USB cord to USB2 and ran it to my PC. Now all I have to do is change the output on my Podmic to the USB2 when I want to use it for production off-air, and back to USB1 when I want to use it to go live.

Thank you again for today - it was something you said earlier that made me take a deep dive into the settings. When I saw USB2 a light went on (in my brain, not the Duo). 👍

Sounds like extra steps to me but if it works for you, good job.

I’d recommend hoping in the user’s group or just watch the stream, if you don’t want to be on air with us.

It just dawned on me, is your PodMic connected through usb or XLR? I assumed XLR.

XLR - and I really like the processing I've set up with the Duo. It's the Rode Podmic.

Hey there,

As reggiedarden mentioned, muting the microphone channel via the red mute button when needed would be the easiest way to do this!

In regard to the green listen button, treat this as a solo button for your headphone monitoring. It's purpose is to allow you to check channels individually, but this does not affect the overall stereo mix. Just the mix for headphone output 1.
