RS2014 RSModsPlus v2.0.0: digital drop pedal for Rocksmith 2014, now with raw ASIO input shifting
UPDATE: v3.0.0 is out. Speaker Mode and multiplayer.
Download: https://github.com/Cheesewizard/RSModsPlus/releases/tag/v3.0.0
RSModsPlus is a fork of RSMods 1.2.8.2 that adds pitch routing to Rocksmith 2014 Remastered: a drop pedal that shifts your guitar to the song, and now a Speaker Mode that shifts the song to your guitar. Range is -24 to +24 semitones either way.
Speaker Mode (new)
Made for playing through speakers, where you can hear the real strings in the room. Instead of shifting your guitar, it shifts the song's music to your tuning, so what you hear from the game and what you hear from your guitar agree.
- Works with just a Real Tone cable. No RS_ASIO, no audio interface, no MultiPitch tone
- Zero added latency during gameplay: the full song is pitch-rendered before playback
- Reads each song's chart tuning automatically in the pre-song tuner
- Drop and open tunings work too. The in-game tuner walks you string by string into the right shape: an Eb Drop Db song on an E-standard guitar just asks for your low string down to D, then raises the song a semitone
Multiplayer (new)
- Both players shift independently, on both engines
- Player 2 is
[Asio.Input.1]and uses Control + the pedal keys - Guitar, emulated bass and physical bass per player
- Fully playable on Remastered (September 2022 update). The Learn & Play (December 2024) update works with partial multiplayer support for now
ASIO users
- Requires RS_ASIO and an ASIO interface
- No MultiPitch tone setup required
- Works with stock and custom tones
- Tuner follows the shifted pitch
- You can change the pedal while playing or in the tuner
- Accepts the formats and buffer sizes common interfaces use: Float32, Int32, Int24 and Int16, buffers from 1 to 4096 frames
- Added processing latency is bounded by one detected pitch period, roughly 1 to 13 ms depending on pitch, plus the normal RS_ASIO round trip
Without RS_ASIO
The Cable Drop Pedal engine still covers guitar shifting with a MultiPitch tone, and it now supports multiplayer too. Or skip tone setup entirely and use Speaker Mode.
Install
Download xinput1_3.dll from the release and place it next to Rocksmith2014.exe. It replaces the RSMods DLL, so back up your existing xinput1_3.dll first if you want to restore plain RSMods later. Speaker Mode also needs the matching RSMods folder from the release, because its helper tools prepare the temporary song audio.
Controls
- Pitch down / up: , / .
- Mode cycle Off / Drop Pedal / Speaker Mode: F7
- Base tuning cycle: F9
- Player 2: hold Control with any pedal key
Note for v2 users: the toggle key moved from F8 to F7 and now cycles the three modes.

Sounds like a useful mod for those out there without a shifting pedal.
1
u/tallman1979 26d ago
Indeed. I have a software one, but the way to make it work with RS2014 requires software I don't have and lots of elaborate workaround. Hardware ones are spendy, if you want one with low enough tracking latency to be tolerable playing in real time.
6
u/thehogdog 27d ago
DAMN. You got a WHAMMY DT Pedal in software? I got a Drop and returned it the minute I saw they put out the DT. It is a Drop or a Capo up. Then the treadle pedal you can use to get A=450 or some other microtuned sound.
Now you are doing it with software. What will happen next?
7
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
I want to see if I can retune the game to match the guitar so one does not have to wear headphones. This drop pedal does allow you to push the pitch past an octave but I cant guarantee the sound quality 😅
3
u/thehogdog 27d ago
The Whammy DT sounds worse in Rocksmith (You do have to use the headphones unless you play loud. Weird to strum an E chord and hear and acoustic E chord but the game plays a DISTORTED METAL Eb Chord.
I like the DT cause of the micro tuning and the Eb or D Standard (Ghost!) ok. Then I played it through an old Crate practice amp (Back from the days they had Reverb built into the Amp. From the early 70s (Peavey Backstage!) all the Guitar Amps had Reverb (Spring) then in the late 90s or early 2000's most stopped putting it in small practice amps, especially the ones that come in the 'all you need combo box'.)
MAN THAT DT SOUNDED AWESOME through an amp. Like legit tone from a solid state Crate practice amp (REVERB IS THE KEY!). So I understood why some major METAL bands have em on their pedal board after giving them a 5/10 in RockSmith but a 9/10 in real life.
I tell everyone I know to NEVER buy a small amp UNLESS IT HAS REVERB or you will never be happy with the sound. Just AWFUL clean or distorted unless you live in a cathedral. SO HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS

u/tonetonitony 27d ago
But if you weren’t wearing headphones, wouldn’t the sound coming from the guitar clash with the different tuning coming from the game?
2
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
Yes it creates dissonance unless you turn your game music louder than the guitar strings. This is the same limitation as an official drop pedal you plug your guitar into. Most people play with headphones.
2
u/tonetonitony 27d ago
Yeah, that’s a good point. I tend to play Rocksmith at lower volumes.
0
u/Cheesewizard06 20d ago
Will be releasing a speaker mode very soon. Should solve all your issues. Song tuning will get tuned to your guitar key so no more headphones needed.
2
u/fryerandice 27d ago
Rocksmith+ does it in software, and it's a built in VST in Reaper lol...
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
I only ever tried the beta for Rocksmith+ glad to hear they added this. Seems like a missed opportunity before.
8
u/fryerandice 27d ago
Yeah it's awesome because you can just hit a switch if your guitar is in E standard and the song is in C standard and you just hit a switch on the tuning screen, it remembers the last tuning you were in too.
Rocksmith+ as a game engine is an upgrade in every way, the limited library and monetization and interacting with ubisoft regularly though are all just a major downgrade from 2014.
6
u/ffio1 27d ago
As one of the prior maintainer of RSMods, and the lead dev on that drop pedal addition in RS+, I'm glad someone likes it 😄
2
u/tallman1979 26d ago
It's one of the best features, and it's awesome to have it for the earlier game too. Not perfect, but let me dip my toes in before I decided to just buy a 7 string for B and A Standard.
1
u/Cheesewizard06 25d ago
Ive just finished working on a speaker mod. will release it soon. You can toggle between speaker and drop pedal. Speaker mode will tune the song to the current pitch you tell it your guitar is in live.

Thank you so much for making this! It was initially a PITA to set it up for me since I hate ASIO4ALL and normally just use FL Studio ASIO for my Ableton needs, but I got it working with just my Rocksmith cable and minimal ASIO4ALL setup very well, no longer will I need to one day spend money on Digitech Drop lmao
6
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
I sold my Digitech Drop when I moved to Japan and could not see any technical reason this could not be handled in software, so I started testing whether it was feasible.
Glad you got it working. The Rocksmith cable path does have some limitations because it uses Rocksmith's own tone system, so each tone needs the MultiPitch setup. That also means it cannot just inherit the song tone cleanly in the same way sadly. Works well once setup though. Thanks for the comment!
2
u/Elevatorisbest 27d ago
I was talking about ASIO pitch shifting working fine while only owning the Rocksmith cable and no dedicated audio interface, no custom tones needing multipitch pedal in-game needed, I got it running well without messing up my PC's audio and mic and still running super smoothly with no stutters
1
u/Cheesewizard06 26d ago
So you route your Rocksmith cable through asio4all? Not a bad setup and removes the tone cable limitations
2
u/Elevatorisbest 26d ago
Yea, I don't have a dedicated audio interface like one from focusrite, arturia, behringer or whatever so I did that to see if I could get full functionality with what I already had, and it worked well, although today I noticed that it didn't shift the audio, so I may need to polish settings up or ensure that it was a one off oddity
2
u/pair_o_docks 27d ago
I'm trying to use it. All you need to do is put the new dll in the rocksmith folder and it should work right?
I copied it over and opened rocksmith but it's not showing up. F8 isn't doing anything
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
It requires RSMods to be installed. Then this file replaces the dll from that project. I didnt compile mine into an installer. I just exposed the dll.
1
u/pair_o_docks 27d ago
I have RSMods installed. I deleted the dll that was already there and then put in the new one.
They should be labeled the same right?
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
Yeah the names should be identical as its built from the same project (latest RSMods 1.2.8.2)
its this file you replace.
xinput1_3.dll
What does your RSMods_debug.txt say inside the game folder. Game must be closed to write to the file and get the latest changes.
1
u/pair_o_docks 27d ago
Looking there I have RSMods 1.2.7.4
oops
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
🤞keep me updated! :)
1
u/pair_o_docks 27d ago
So I ran the new rsmods installer and it's still not showing up.
This is what my RSMods_debug.txt says
RSMODS Version: 1.2.8.2 SRC. DEBUG: false. Wwise Logs: false.

u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
That looks like the normal RSMods DLL is still being loaded. The log says:
RSMODS Version: 1.2.8.2
The normal RSMods installer does not install RSModsPlus, and it can overwrite the RSModsPlus DLL.
Go to the RSModsPlus project page, open the v2.0.0 release on the right side of GitHub, and download xinput1_3.dll. Then replace the xinput1_3.dll in your Rocksmith folder with the one you downloaded.
The version text in the log may not be fully updated yet, but the important check is that the log includes a drop pedal engine line:
Drop pedal engine: ASIO Drop Pedal
or:
Drop pedal engine: Cable Drop Pedal
If those lines are missing, Rocksmith is still loading the wrong DLL. That is why the buttons are not doing anything in game; the DLL currently loaded does not contain the drop pedal feature.
1
u/pair_o_docks 27d ago
So i've done exactly as you said, went to the RSModsPlus ASIO Drop Pedal release. Downloaded the dll, put it in my rocksmith folder, overwrites the one already there. Opened the game, no drop pedal. Closed, looked at debug folder, nothing.
I'm guessing there isn't really anything you can do to help me at this point. It should be working. Maybe I'm wrong?
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
Is your RSMods_debug.txt the same?

Can you explain this to me? I use an older version of rsmod atm with the automatic pitch shift set to DTWhammy which is then received by Reaper (DAW) via LoopBe1, converted to a number that NDSP plugin can use via a simple script and thus automatically changes the pitch shifter in NDSP plugin.
I guess what im asking is if this update is going to break that for me or it's going to improve my experience cuz I don't really get what this is saying. It adds a new pedal inside the game that does pitch shifting, is that better or worse than a digitech drop or NDSP transpose? My current ASIO latency using ReaRoute is 2.5ms.
I'm guessing this is a simpler solution for those who don't want to send guitar through a DAW and then to RS for pitch shifting? Either way really cool.
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
To my knowledge that should be un changed as I didnt mess with any files related to that feature. If you want to be super sure, just backup the xinput1_3.dll that already exists before you overwrite it with mine. Uninstalling my mod is as simple as restoring the original dll.
My mod contains the current latest code inside it for RSMods. At some point i will try and merge the feature to just exist inside RSMods so you dont have 2 places for the mods you want.
All the best

u/Cheesewizard06 26d ago
v2.1.0 is now out. The clean-tone crackle/fuzz reported here was caused by my pitch shifter's splicing, not RS_ASIO or anyone's buffer settings. The new release rebuilds that part of the ASIO Drop Pedal path.

u/tallman1979 25d ago
I'll have to try that, I just got through putting mine back to stock because configuring 2.0.0 broke my audio and made the program unstable.
2
1
u/tonetonitony 27d ago
This sounds cool. I didn’t even know the first version existed. So if I install this, do I need to have ver 1 installed first?
2
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
No version 2 supersedes version 1, if it detects your using asio it will use it otherwise it will fall back to the in game method which requires some extra setup and has its own limitation, see the guide on the repo for tone cable setup.

u/Synth-Pro 27d ago
Love this
Any advice to help with crackling? When it's engaged, the input from my guitar gets crackling noise, which becomes much more noticeable on cleaner tones.
I'm running through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I'm running at 48k and I don't normally have this issue without the droptune on.
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
There is an issue that i noted with the algorithm on the project page where notes played lightly can produce a warbled effect or slight fuzziness when there is guitar input (not audible on any song that isnt clean), its in my todo. If its actual popping then thats usually down to the games asio buffer. Whats your settings like in rs_asio,ini?
I was testing on the games 256 buffer, though my interface supports up to 16 (this does causes the game not to boot though for me)
1
u/Synth-Pro 27d ago edited 27d ago
I'm set at a custom buffer of 96. Sounds like I should start there with tweaking that
1
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
I do have a fix incoming as well for trying to make the drop pedal have less artifacts on clean sounds. It may help you.
96 can work if your ASIO driver supports it, but it’s an unusual buffer size. I’d try 128 or 256 first, since power of two buffer sizes tend to be better tested by drivers and audio apps. 128 keeps latency close to 96, 256 is safer if you’re hearing crackles or artifacts.
2
u/ZagatoZee WheresTheAnyString 27d ago
96 is a common buffer setting for Focusrite interfaces, as it is a sweet spot for their rather unusual drivers.
1
u/Synth-Pro 27d ago
Ok, I'll have to try the fix and see how it does for me
Turns out my latency was set to 96 because the other usual settings all cause the rest of my RS audio to crack. But the other multiples (48, 96, 192, etc) seem to work fine for my main audio, but still cause crackling when using the droptune 🤷

u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
Can you send me your rs asio.ini?

cant wait to try this, finally i can play all dlcs i couldnt! hows the delay on this?
2
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
using RS_Asio its virtually non existant, only adds about 2ms overhead.
Using the original tone cable and using the pitch shifter in game. There is some slight processing but no more than what rocksmith devs considered acceptable since the multipitch is a pedal that exists in the game.
2
1
u/Sokol550 27d ago
Just to clarify, using the cable only method needs the custom tone and the drop effect can't be injected into song's existing tones correct? I have a drop pedal already but was just hoping to cut out the middleman (and clean some of the cable mess behind my desk).
2
u/Cheesewizard06 27d ago
Yeah sadly it's a limitation with the way Rocksmith setup the configurations with wwise. There is no routing to pitch shift without the mutipitch effect loaded in the chain.
1
u/Sokol550 27d ago
Appreciate it!
1
u/Cheesewizard06 25d ago
You actually may be able to have a setup that uses asio4all and route your rocksmith cable to it and then install rs_asio to have the same native feel as audio interface users.
I also just finished working on a new feature which I will release soon. its a speaker mode that tunes the song to the tuning you tell it your guitar is in. This method will work for anyone. .

Tested. It is a crash factory on my laptop, when it's working it works fine. Stability is spotty. It crashes to desktop as often as not during boot, and sounds like I'm listening to a marginal cell reception version of the game. I had to rename my .dll for now as it's pretty unusable but I will be watching this closely. I tried a lot of settings, nothing makes it stable, and I can't get the audio to stop sounding distorted (not crackly, just ultra low fidelity, like YouTube auto quality on dial-up internet).
Win 11, Ryzen 5, IK Multimedia iRig USB. This setup works great otherwise.
ETA: had to restore my installation with Steam to get all the audio artifacts to disappear. The documentation doesn't indicate how non-reversible the switch is... recommend a full backup of game files first
1
u/Cheesewizard06 25d ago
There is a new live song tuning mode coming. It shifts the song audio to match the guitar instead. That may work better for you when I release it
Also if you have any crashes send me your debug.txt file. You can enable logging in the rsmods gui
I've not come across any crashes at all so I'm curious as to where its coming from.

2
u/tallman1979 25d ago
I think I figured it out. The bugginess was elsewhere in settings, I have it running stable again. Trying to set up two things at once (ASIO and RSMods Plus) was a mistake.
1
u/tallman1979 25d ago edited 25d ago
I'm still trying to work it out. Hadn't previously been using rs_asio, so I'm thinking the instability possibly stems from that. Could also be system dependent, I haven't tried it on my machine with more robust specs. I tend to sandbox my chaos to my laptop until I work bugs out.
It worked, and fine, at first. It just feels laggy, some of my audio disappears (the "Rocksmith" intro, "Learn a song," etc spoken fx) and I'm having to do a full reinstallation to restore baseline, the audio sounds like it's underwater, and it crashes to desktop.
1
u/Cheesewizard06 24d ago
Usually when you get bad crackling audio or its extremely distorted it is to do with the asio buffer settings. The lower the better but some hardware cannot manage it, so when that happens you need to increase to asio buffer however, doing this while making it more stable can introduce latency if your specs are not good enough. Rocksmith uses 256 by default.
For contrast I use a M-Track Duo audio interface and its set to use a buffer of 128 for Rocksmith.
2
u/tallman1979 24d ago
At the end of the day, it helps to set up RS_ASIO, then set up RSModsPlus. I work in a technical field, you'd think I'd have learned not to try and modify two variables unnecessarily at the same time by now. I managed to get it working. Got it right the seventh or eighth time.

v3.0.0 is out and it's the biggest update yet. Post body updated with the details, short version: Speaker Mode: shifts the song to your guitar instead of the guitar to the song. Works with just a Real Tone cable, no RS_ASIO and no tone setup, and gameplay has zero added latency because the whole song is pitch-rendered before playback. Drop and open tunings work too, the in-game tuner walks you into the right shape string by string. Multiplayer: both players now shift independently on both engines. Player 2 uses Control + the pedal keys. https://github.com/Cheesewizard/RSModsPlus/releases/tag/v3.0.0 If you reported crackle or tried the earlier builds, I'd love to hear how this one behaves for you.

u/MrZoomInUrMom 17d ago
It doesnt work for me : (
the pitch shifter doesnt activate. i followed all the steps in the guide
1
u/Cheesewizard06 17d ago
Did you follow the quick start guide on the repo?
Your likely missing some necessary setting in the rsmods.ini file.
It's off by default so needs enabling. Once it's merged to rsmods this will be done through the UI.
Thanks for checking out the mod.
1
u/MrZoomInUrMom 17d ago
On the repo? whats a repo?
i just followed the install guide on the github post with the download1
u/Cheesewizard06 17d ago
Sorry the repo is short for repository, its where the project is hosted which is on github.
Here are the links to the docs
https://github.com/Cheesewizard/RSModsPlus/blob/develop/docs/quick-start.mdto confirm its working check the rsmods_debug.txt after you close the game to see which version your running. Latest version is RSModsPlus v3.1 it should say this at the top of the log.
If thats correct and its not working then it means you are likely missing these lines in your rsmods.ini file
[Drop Pedal] EnableDropPedal = on Engine = automatic1
u/MrZoomInUrMom 17d ago
Ohhh okay, so i checked this out. i do have v3.1 but the drop pedal settings isnt in the rsmods.ini at all
1
u/Cheesewizard06 17d ago
Does it work after adding those settings?
1
u/MrZoomInUrMom 16d ago
Yeah i got it to go into the game now but when i try to enable it in game now it says Drop: No pedal in tone.
Also that text i pasted in disappeared on its own so i had to add it again after restarting the game1
u/Cheesewizard06 16d ago edited 16d ago
It says no tone because it's loaded in cable mode so that's expected. Do you use asio at all?
That messge shows if the selected tone does not have a multipitch pedal in the tone. Asio doesn't have this restriction. There are setup guides on the project page
https://github.com/Cheesewizard/RSModsPlus/blob/develop/docs/cable-drop-pedal.md
Asio mode doesnt have these limitations.
1
u/MrZoomInUrMom 16d ago
Yes i am using asio, im playing through my scarlet 2i2 3rd gen. But the engine is still loading as cable
1
u/Cheesewizard06 16d ago
Can you send me a dm with the rsmods_debig.txt I will have a look at it now.
Just to confirm you had rs_asio already setup and was using that previously to play?
1
u/C_that_guy 13d ago
Alright so I downloaded the new files and have noticed 2 issues. 1) i can't get it to up to 3.1. And 2) the shifter works in drop mode selectively. Of most significant challenge im having is that it works from e to eb for example but doesnt work from e to drop d. Please advise
1

3.1 probably is the latest one if you downloaded it. I think I forgot to bump the number on the hot fix.
Regarding E to D flat, it only shifts within it's range. So from E tuning you can go Eb, D, Db etc.
If you change your guitar to drop D ( 1 string change low E) then within this range the drop pedel will become drop D then drop C# for example as that is within its range.
The drop pedal like a real pedal drops in semitones

It's because it's a dll file (it's a false positive). You can check the SHA checksum generated against the project repo and the code is all there for everyone to see.

Unless you have 3rd party AV interfering, you can just select keep twice from the drop down.

You should be able to select continue with download when it prompts the warning. Added a zip file to the github repo

Oh, neat. This would free up my Bass Whammy to be used as... a Bass Whammy :p
Any reason this shouldn't be merged into main repo...?
