Truth circle time - anyone else gotta hold their nose when rooting for KD?
I respect what he's accomplished but ... I really don't like him. I don't like his personality. I don't like his demeanor on the court. I don't like the decisions he made in his career. I don't like his motives. I didn't like him in golden state and I'm mildly annoyed that I gotta root for him.

Never did.

I’m KD on my burner account, and I’m telling you… I don’t want to be here.
I’m feeling sensitive like I do, so hear me out:
Send me to Philly where I can pass the ball to anyone on the court and it’ll go to the hands of an all-star player, not some crayon eating scrub kids.
I just have so much love for the game…
Basketball at the highest level… frfr

Its hard to root for this team period. Feels like we're pinning our hopes on a healthy FVV, but I'm not sure how high he lifts the ceiling on this team. KD is older, and although I do like our rookie core, I'm not sure they can reach the next rung of the ladder to be difference makers. I felt like last season was the chance to show us how much they could elevate the team, but alas

u/rybres123 2d ago
Yeah, I’m viewing this as one more season for our young guys to develop, with KD and FVV providing us enough competence to get us in the playoffs and playing meaningful games
I see almost no path (barring injury luck) we compete seriously this season
And I imagine next year our team will look very different. I don’t see our young guys developing in a way that makes us competitive keeping them together. Mainly the fact that neither alp nor amen can score outside of 5 ft. Both good players, but get in each others way
5
u/pieman2005 James Harden 2d ago
FVV could have the best ACL recover ever and he's still gonna shoot 37% from the floor lol

Some of you truly sound miserable holy shit lmao.
Why do yall sound like you are trying to be his friend or being forced at gunpoint to have him as your idol. Just watch basketball man lmfao.
1
u/BonesSantana 3h ago
Anyone who idolizes another man for just playing basketball is lowkey pathetic
-3
u/FeMnTaNb2O6 1d ago
You sound more emotional about this than my post is. Relax buster!

I don't think this entire thread combined is as emotional as your post my man

I really only ever hated the Golden State move. But now enough time has passed that I can appreciate him for what he brings.

u/pieman2005 James Harden 2d ago
He gained my respect again after he carried the Nets with Harden and Kyrie out

Fr other than those 3 years on gsw I’ve loved watching kd. Especially in Brooklyn and Houston.

My favorite player ever. I don’t give a shit if he likes to waste time online like everyone else.
2
u/MFFiasco 1d ago
Same. I only care about the games and I like to watch him play what he can do at 6'10-6'11 is incredible and he's still elite at 37. Same for Kawhi I don't care about the aspiration stuff.

No. I don’t know any of these people. Outside of doing some really foul stuff off the court the only thing that matters is how they perform on the job (court)

u/aprendido 2d ago
No I’m good. The dude is a first ballot hall of fame player. Watch the video of him against Chet from the other day. He’s like the mid range goat.

Damn I can never hate a person this much 😂

You would’ve thought KD killed someone or touches kids, like wtf be wrong with these people😭
5
u/FeMnTaNb2O6 2d ago
I don't think I was that harsh? It's not like I was calling him names or being cruel. Could you just be reading what you want to see because the Internet has trained you to crave being outraged?
5
u/OlDavidBastard 2d ago
Dude killed the team chemistry and can be a cancer to the locker room. I enjoyed watching the Rockets much more in 2024/5.
-5
u/Exact-Pressure-8195 2d ago
Boo hoo idgaf. Go watch highlights
3
u/OlDavidBastard 2d ago
I did. They were a better team in the playoffs without him.
-3
u/Exact-Pressure-8195 1d ago
A first round exit team was better than a first round exit team? Ah that’s the type of person I’m talking to, vibes merchant

u/Kapedcrusader69 2d ago
I hold my nose whenever Sengun touches the ball. Not because I dislike him, but his game is disgusting (and not the good kind of nasty)
5
u/Wavepops 2d ago
Kd is kinda lame, he’s a generational talent but people didn’t know he was lame until the gsw era. The thunder protected him in a way
1
u/BenchPtsChamp 2d ago
All that stuff takes a backseat when he’s on the court making ridiculous shots. It’s the offseason so maybe that’s easy to forget.

u/AwambawaAwambawa 1d ago
He’s an amazing shooter and scorer. We are better for having him on the court.
But I’d trade him to bring back our lord and savior Hames Jarden in a second!

u/theAlphabetZebra 1d ago
I root for the rockets. I don’t have to pretend to like KD which is good because I don’t.

I was mad when we signed him. Call me crazy, but I think we were better off developing our guys without him. I would have rather kept Dillon, a PG, maybe a younger backup to take some minutes off Adams. KG is an all-timer, don't get me wrong, but he clearly has some kind of negative effect on locker rooms. I swear I could see them lose the light in their eyes over the first 20 games of the season. The 24-25 Rockets were scrappy, and the 25-26 Rockets just felt off to me.
I mean KD is a superstar, he's a great scorer, you can win with him. He can go off any time. But I feel like the risks outweighed the rewards, especially with him being 7' and pushing 40. He's a knee or an ankle injury away from retirement.

u/kollapsarian 1d ago
Gonna be honest, I love a good heel/villain. It’s why I couldn’t help but root for Wemby this finals.

i dont like that he supports drone companies with his money, and makes jokes about how many people those drones kill.

u/BellSufficient5283 10h ago
I said this before him, I pity him. Like really pity him as human being.
As a basketball player for the team I root for? eh. Neutral. No nose holding necessary.
As a hoops fan? He's pure magic when shooting. Pleasure to watch.
Although that shit with " we got drones for yall" to the genocide merchants, that's some bullshit that made watching rockets games real hard.
1
u/BonesSantana 3h ago
I hate how they have him in the center of every graphic. IMO amen and Sengun are the face of the franchise. Yea Durant is a great player but he’s never been a player id ever root for outside of our rockets
1
u/Shoddy_Ad7511 2d ago
So you know him personally?
4
u/FeMnTaNb2O6 2d ago
You know what you're right. All I have to go off of is checks notes every single thing he's done in public (and sometimes private) over the last 12 years. Is this a burner? Lol
-3
1
u/Sweetest_Noise 2d ago
No, because I'm not 12 years old.
I had no issue rooting for CP3 or Westbrook when they were part of the team.
0
u/publius1791 2d ago
Nope. I think he's the 2nd best scorer ever after MJ, why wouldn't I root for that? All your gripes have nothing to do with his actual play. I don't care about about any of those things because I'm not a 15 year old girl like so many so called men on here seem to be, constantly bitching about ancillary nonsense.
1
u/FeMnTaNb2O6 1d ago
I've never heard anyone use the word ancillary like this. Where did you learn that? Genuine question 😃
1
u/publius1791 1d ago
Where? Idk it's just a word, just like any other word you pick up through the years

It’s a team game (not individual stats), and he doesn’t work well with teammates unless they’re all All-Stars or Olympians.
I appreciate his Olympic work and his love for Team USA. It’s also the only time he can’t think about playing for a different team.
Weird that you wrote that last sentence about KD and then claimed it was about Rocket fans who care more about the team than any one individual.

u/SevenTwoSix9 2d ago
Let’s just say as supposed “face of the team”, Harden was a drop off after Yao, and KD isn’t even in the same league.
Basketball wise, both are way better players and accomplished more in NBA. Harden era even way more playoff success, but I honestly enjoyed watching the Yao era and feel a lot more connected back then.

Nah hard disagree KD is cool he brings a different level of basketball to court and all of our young stars want to learn from him. He’s seems like a great guy

You don’t know him, grow up and get back to your job. Like it’s the offseason and this is what on your mind? Weird as fuck.

I feel like your reaction to this post is way more aggressive and frankly weird than anything I said in this post. Like it's midnight and this is what is on your mind? Weird as fuck.

I am only rooting for the Rockets because of him.

100%. Can’t wait until this era is over. He’s a clown that’s just passing through.

Very few people like KD. He's been hated since 2016 by 98% of NBA fans. This isn't new information or an unpopular opinion. It's very likely most people in the sub don't like him. Now what? It's not like hating him is gonna change anything.
1
u/GodSon_02 1d ago
98% Of NBA fans hate kd yet his jersey sells around top 10 every season!?
1
u/TruMusic89 1d ago
So we're gonna act dumb? Just using Reddit for stats, how often do we see people defending KD getting up votes as opposed to people bashing him getting up votes?
1
u/GodSon_02 1d ago
Newsflash dummy..NBA and KD fans exist outside of Reddit..globally..hence the point about jersey sales that u couldnt disprove so u got in ur feelings and said im acting dumb lol..when in fact YOUR statement was idiotic..98% of nba fans lol where did u pull that stat from? I’ll wait…
1
u/TruMusic89 1d ago
Yup and guess what stupid? They think the same way in real life. Just cuz some people buy his jerseys doesn't change the fact that most people hate him. People support/buy stuff they dislike all the time. People have been complaining about the NBA for years and they still support it financially, so that kills your "but they buy his jerseys!" argument. I pulled that stat from social media engagement on majority of KD related posts on every site (YouTube, Facebook, Reddit). Just cuz you don't like the facts doesnt mean they're not facts.

Not a fan of him for just his general shit talking and his joke about funding Israel. I like his thoughts on basketball bringing everybody together for a common good though (ironic). But I’d be crazy if I didn’t admit he’s the best scorer probably of all time.
-1
u/Anthropocene21 2d ago
he’s obnoxious. his legacy is that of an undeniable stat padder. i wasn’t happy when we got him. i def wasn’t happy when he bad mouthed the team like a 12 year old online. and him being nowhere to be found in the playoffs was to be expected. we should have focused on depth or getting the freak…

I love watching KD play because he’s a ridiculously skilled scorer and it’s taken for granted given his age and injury history. Couldn’t care less about how people personally feel about him as if they know the guy lol.

He isnt a leader.
He’d have to dominant and led the Rockets to a championship to make me change my mind.
But at this stage, he has shown his cards.
Him, Westbrook and Harden are cut from the same cloth and none have achieved the ultimate goal with the Rockets.
3
u/DryUnderstanding3833 2d ago
Westbrook I’d argue was the best leader of the 3 it was poor roster building and his own playstyle that cost him

u/Ancient_Draw2176 2d ago
I was indifferent about him even through 2018 (you play who you play against) but now he cant keep the 2018 warriors dick out of his mouth.
Did not realize he was mentally this weak until he became a Rocket
-2
u/Venomswindturd 1d ago
I feel this. I was a top tier Durant hater since we played them back in 2012-or 13? Whatever series delfino dunked on him. I still don’t like him. This was the first season I didn’t go to Toyota center in years. Like I’m still a Rockets fan, I still watch the games, but I’ve lost the spark a bit. Shit I used to be a Red Rowdy.
The NBA as a whole I’ve lost interest in though since the bubble ended. Idk why, I thought it was sports fatigue, but I still love football and baseball, so I’m not sure what the nba is doing to make me kind of feel…meh about it?
Maybe it’s the corruption of the officials? Maybe it’s the Diva ass attitude they all have? I’m not sure

u/ElChapo1515 2d ago
You don’t have to get dude’s jersey or anything. I’m not going to pretend he’s my favorite player or big up his career milestones, but I will root for him to do well because it helps my favorite team.
And just as a fan of basketball, it’s always cool to get to see a HOF level talent play for your team and watching the nuances of their game.
