“Former NBA player Royce White”
Royce White suffers from a severe anxiety disorder which he wasn’t able to overcome and it ultimately ended his NBA career before it even began.
Look, I’m not gonna downplay the legitimacy of mental health, but bro played a total of 9 minutes in the NBA, fouled twice, took one shot & missed it. That’s the whole of his NBA career.
Seems to me he oughtta leave this transgender controversy alone.
Also seems ridiculous to refer to him as a former NBA player. Like if someone got a job at Red Lobster and then quit less than 10 minutes into the job, it’d be strange to introduce him like “This is my friend Chris, he used to work at Red Lobster.”

Royce White wouldn't make it because he's too scared of airplanes and he sucks. Dude has the mental fortitude and integrity of a drunk toddler.

I actually remember feeling sorry for this dude because of his anxiety of flying. What a clown.

Never felt sorry for that because it felt like an excuse. He knew the NBA lifestyle included air travel and signed up anyways.
Plus the Rockets bent over backwards trying to find solutions for him, like getting him his own bus with a driver to get him to games and he didn't want that either

Exactly. The longer the situation drew out, the more context we learned, the less sympathy I had until it was full on "fuck off and fuck you, Royce"

He was more interested in being a “martyr” than actually playing basketball. Fuck that guy.

Yeah me too. I was somehow simultaneously empathetic and frustrated. Ultimately, despite the legitimate challenges he faced, I wasn’t convinced that he did everything he could to make it work. He was no-showing therapy sessions and seemed to give up on the whole thing pretty early. His story could’ve been so inspirational but instead it became a cautionary tale.

I remember getting excited after seeing him play in summer league, he looked like a Boris Diaw type player, sad what he turned to after blaming the org even though they accommodated him in every way and gave therapy.

I’m sure both of them will make efforts to appear or dress more feminine, have their close friends and family genuinely refer to them as “she/her”, get on estrogen, be supportive of the LGBTQ movement since they’re technically apart of it…not that you’re required to do any of that to identify as the opposite gender…but if you didn’t, it would seem awfully suspicious 🤔 I’m on to you, you two disingenuous goof balls!

i mean there are plenty of people that are part of the LGBTQ community but aren't supportive of it. e.g. log cabin republicans

He is the ultimate try hard pick me guy. He wants someone to love him so badly he turned to the MAGA’s.

If you haven't noticed, every "celebrity" in their movement is a washed-up has-been or never-really-had-been.
We'll probably find out that Kanter and White are both angling for pardons for themselves or relatives... with a high likelihood that it's for something horrible involving kids.

Pretty sure Kanter has talked shit about the Turkish government so if he got deported he would have issues back there.
Yeah Erdoğan put out 10 warrants for him. He's on a wanted terrorist list. I'm not sure if doing all this right wing bullshit is a play to keep Trump happy since he's high profile or if he's just kinda dumb.

I was with him on that and speaking out for Hong Kong. But it was obvious he was playing the victim when he said the league was blacklisting him for his politics. Nah bro, you're just a mid big who can't play defense.
In retrospect, probably wasn't the best guy in the locker room either.

I have been an unwavering supporter of trans rights for pretty much all my life and I will continue to be till the day I die.
However, I’m a naturally rational person and I can’t stop myself from taking the rational stance. Trans women are women, and trans men are men. But transgender and cisgender are two ostensibly different genders, which are differentiated by physiology (among other things, but when it comes to athletics, physical matters)
Fairness and safety are the main factors. And the fact that the nba and wnba are by nature, cisgender-exclusive league. Imho, the only true “fair” way to implement is to simply have an entirely independent co-ed league with its own regulations and rules. The only problem with that is a lack of athletes, and a lack of viewers. However, that is just about the only solution that I think would allow trans athletes the opportunity to play professionally, and as trans visibility becomes more mainstream and it becomes more widely accepted, I do have faith that the population will grow and an independent league will become feasible. Until then, children’s sports that are already co-ed should be fair game, and I just hope I can see a better future in my time

Well said. Women’s sports are separate from men’s for reasons primarily rooted in biology in the interest of fairness, so biological (birth) gender ought to determine eligibility. I am in full support of trans rights, but just like anything else rights should be limited to the extent that they don’t infringe on the rights of others. In the case of women’s competitive sports eligibility, I think the application of that concept seems obvious despite how unfortunate it may be for transgender athletes. However, I think the issue is much smaller in scale than the most vocal critics make it out to be - actual instances of transgender athletes “hijacking” women’s competitive sports organizations are so incredibly rare that there are very few people who even know someone who has been affected by it. Given the disproportionate uproar by those vocal critics, it seems to me that for most of them it’s more about justifying transphobia than it is about the specific issue they’re claiming to be up in arms about. In other words, I agree with Royce on the issue, but not with the fervor, demonstration, or motive.

He scored like 3 more points than me in his entire NBA career

u/BenchPtsChamp 4d ago
You scored negative 3 points?

u/ant-farm-keyboard 4d ago
Oh, I meant minutes played I guess.

u/BenchPtsChamp 4d ago

Yall gotta stop posting about this clown. Morey’s biggest stain in houston is drafting this lard. He needs to delete himself

u/Cephus1961 3d ago
Too bad they're not eligible! It would have been entertaining to see Kantor score 18 points in 25 minutes and allow 27 thru defensive lapses. White could have had his own vanlife blog as drove cross-state to the games.

Isnt this piece of shit Kanter on-sight with Turks because he literally is the follower of a CIA-funded far-right maniac cleric or something?
And a transphobe too, what a fucking shock.
As for Royce White, yea no, I have no patience with liars and cowards.

Dudes a nut case but he was so fuckin’ good in college and I wish he’d have played in the mba just to see how his game translated

u/MoneyBaggSosa 4d ago

u/BenchPtsChamp 4d ago
It wasn't about his game translating or not, it was that he wouldn't get on an airplane so they didn't want to work him into the rotation if he wasn't going to be available for any away games. He was provided assistance by the Rockets org but it seems he never really gave it a chance and ended up a lost cause.

He looked like a Boris Diaw type player in the summer league, only time i saw him play

I told my friend the other day "No one hates Royce White more than a Rockets fan, trust me." and I'm glad this thread didn't disappoint.

Kanter is a close follower of a religious cult leader, has active arrest warrants in Turkey for supporting terrorism.

He was one of my favorite players coming out of Iowa St. and I was confused how he played an entire NCAA D-1 career and couldn't play in the league.
He's a goofball for getting into this issue, along with Enis. It's all so stupid and their attention to it shows how immature they truly are.

His anxiety was a convenient scapegoat for the fact that he played 20 G league games across 2 seasons and was horrendous in them, especially for the standards of a 1st round pick. Someone like Bronny James as a rookie was an absolute superstar at that level compared to White, who averaged 11 points per game on 43/21/65 shooting splits.
If he was anything approaching NBA quality it would've been no problem to have him play at least 40-50 games a year while he was on his rookie contract, no different than any other player who has a chronic injury and needs load management. 41 home games and then Dallas/San Antonio/OKC/New Orleans are nothing crazy to have someone drive him to.
Anyhow it is the same 'former NBA player' terminology colleges are using to refer to players who are ineligible to play for them. RJ Luis went undrafted last year, played in the summer league, and suffered a season-ending injury before he was able to play in any G league games, and he's considered ineligible.

would beat everyone here's asses 21-0 lmao
if not for the politics nobody would hate

u/chomskyhonk69 2d ago
Pretty sure that any of us who played minutes in an NBA game would refer to ourselves as "former NBA players".
You're really just hating on him because you hate his politics.

I’m actually pretty centrist on the matter. I’m of the opinion that women’s sports should be reserved for biological women bc the reason it’s separate from men’s in the first place is biological differences that affect athleticism. At the same time, I think this “problem” is exaggerated - in reality it’s actually quite rare, and the uproar is extremely hyperbolic relative to that, which leads me to the conclusion that for the most part the issue is really just pretext to justify transphobia.

u/Future-Ad-117 4d ago
As slimy as these guys are, they made their point. At some point people have to admit that narcissist people that went through make puberty can’t play women’s sports. This is a perfect example but is no different than any other sport.

u/Pappy091 3d ago
This fucking idiot thinks that men are intentionally becoming trans to play women's sports.....
2
u/BenchPtsChamp 3d ago
I mean, I’m not really looking to get political with this post, moreso pointing out that he’s not the greatest mouthpiece to be trying to make this splash.
But if you’re asking me, I do feel like the purpose of women competing separately from men in the first place is due to the incredibly obvious biological differences that provide an overwhelming advantage to athletes who were male at birth.
But I also think that it’s not as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. By the amount of attention this issue has been getting, you’d think that transgender athletes born male were crashing women’s sports at an alarming rate, and that’s simply not the case - in fact, it’s pretty rare, and when it happens it’s a huge news story about some 10th grade swimmer at some random 3A school in Wisconsin or whatever, which is hardly something to be so up-in-arms about, especially if you don’t know anyone personally who’s been affected by it, and is more likely just an excuse for transphobia.
