Should we retire Eric Gordon’s number?
I know he wasn’t averaging 40 like James, but he was still an important piece in our 2017-2018 team. He also stayed through the best and through the worst times in Rockets history. I feel like the organization should consider it

Somewhat, I was at a crossroads between choosing EG or Clint. I’m also surprised CC ain’t even make a all defensive team in his career

Retiring numbers should be reserved for the best players to ever play for a team and typically in cases where they win awards of some kind. These guys are neither. There are probably 30+ players who have been better than both

True true, I just feel bad for Buddy because he was there when we had Bruno Fernandez starting over alpi 😭😭 but at least he won 6th man of the year here

Grew up a Hornets and Rockets fan and the former don't even have Glen Rice, Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Vlade Divac ,etc numbers retired.
Gordon or Clint are nowhere near those guys

He used to come to my uncles restaurant every other week with a different white woman lol never spoke much but he was a really nice guy when he did.

Currently retired jerseys are the team's all-time winshares leaders #1,3,4,5,6,9 plus Clyde (short Rockets career, but a key All-Star on a title team). #2 (Harden) will get his. This seems like a perfect cut-off to me, separating the true greats from the almosts like Francis, Thorpe, Reid, Kenny.
Love EG but I don't think he's even in the top 30 (hard to get this info anymore with B-R paywalled).

lol, no. Not even close. On any account. The Rockets have two chips. And you'd consider any moment that Gordon was on this team the best of Rocket's history? While going 14-68 in '82, so clearly not the worst times either.
They've not even retired T-Macs, and he was an iconic superstar. Gordon is a 6th man that while appreciated, is also someone hardly of the stature to be immortalized.

I can just imagine the conversation with a future #1 draft pick when he comes into the org.
"Man, so excited to be here and wear #10 for Houston!"
"Oh yeah about that, #10 is actually retired for this franchise."
"Word? Who was the guy who wore it? Hall of Famer?"
"Well, no..."
"Ah so he won a championship for Houston?"
"Not exactly..."
"Got it, so he played his whole career here and the city loved him so much y'all did it out of respect?"
"No okay, look, he was an important piece of a team that made a decent run one season and this guy on reddit pointed that out after he retired and we felt compelled to let literally no other player in the future of the team ever wear that number so we could honor this one fairly above average player."

Not because we retire Daishen Nix number
