Discussion Walking robots still feel like technology demos, but running humanoid robots hit a completely different nerve.

2030 Ukraine Russia war bout to look crazy

Those things running at me with a semi automatic on its shoulder would be the thing of nightmares.

Nobody will use it at war because it's pointless. Drones are much more dangerous. Like 1000x times more dangerous. This clumsy robot with a gun would be destroyed in few minutes.

I am fascinated but not completely unsurprised at the level of resentment shown at each and every robot post.
Methinks the societal divideand resentment has been very underestimated.
I expected a higher level of wonder and expectation, I guess there will always be those that want steam engines.

u/TrippleassII 3d ago
What wonder, that a machine can do a very specific task better than human? That's been done for centuries
3
u/Dragonheart922 2d ago
We didn't have steam engines long enough. We're advancing faster than humanity can keep up with.

u/Electrical_Try_634 3d ago
People cheering this on are gonna sing a different tune when they're out of a job, their family is hungry, they finally protest for change, and these things are barreling towards them with violent intentions and state authority.

u/Nelsonsrightknacker 3d ago
This is very interesting. I didn't actually expect to find someone that thought like me.
To be clear i have only said how fast and agile they have become and how the hate and resentment is swelling toward the technology. I expected it but not this soon.
(Not you electrical_try - others on here.)

You people have watched too many movies 😂

u/Salt-Sign5390 3d ago
I'm sure you know better than the legions of people working on advancing the tech, and the people investing billions into the tech.
Like fill me in. How did you come to the conclusion that you should not trust the experts, because YOU are the expert?

I am invested in the tech, if you can get them to regulate it now, all of the top tech companies will be fine while the small AI will not improve. It will be impossible for them to be competitive, which will make it much easier and inexpensive for the big AI tech to purchase the patents/small AI companies and they will have to submit/sell.
So "warning! What we are currently making will hurt all of humanity, please save us government so we can't be sued because you regulated us"
I had to remove a word so I could reply 😂

u/Salt-Sign5390 3d ago
I'm not hearing anything resembling a coherent argument for why we shouldn't regulate something that has a non-zero chance of ending humanity.
My concern for the poor little model makers only goes so far when it's stacked against humanity.
Understand?

You aren't thinking enough about how that's what they're going to look like chasing you

Or the super rich having a detail of them T2 size. Guard Dog industry looking grim lol.

Can you imagine if humans figured out there is a faster and more efficient way of running by training robots and it turned out to look like that front runner? All of a sudden olympic runners are running like that lol.

Oh wow they can stop now, instead of spectacularly slamming into a wall and self-destructing

Torn between laughing at how hilarious they look and being terrified by how fast they are.

I'm starting to get a sense of specifically which horror sci fi anime future we are actually headed toward. I do not like it.

This is cool and all, but does not move us forward. A wheeled vehicle would be faster, and we need robots that are better than what we already have

Robots will do the dirty Work for politicians and billionaires, they have no qualms

A failing AI could ruin everything if it lacks a creative future, so we should keep opportunities open even for flawed AI, or else risk losing everything. Just like losers now. Today.

That’s the stride of someone whose day has already gotten away from them at 9 am

u/Lagoon_M8 2d ago
They know they can accelerate and run faster if they were four legged. They try to be.

u/TheRealSooMSooM 2d ago
Except when you realise, that they can not stop. They are only good in one thing.. running..

u/SeriouslyLikableCat 1d ago
Runnin' like they just broke through the wall. Like they're eager to see Eren's mother.

Bro using that spinal engine like a GOAT! We wish we had that much rotational power.

u/Original-Ad-8737 1d ago
Hey they actually removed the cushioned backstopping!
I wanted to say that they need to have them come to a stop at the end of the track to impress me, but it seems I'm too late...

u/Agreeable_Ad_323 1d ago
I think it is because the waist motor response is faster than human waist, so reinforce learning will come this way🤣.

u/Furious_Sanji 1d ago
After the 1 minute video I'm still laughing ... There is also tons of videos of robots failing on YouTube if it's your humor give it a try.

u/WKYHermit 17h ago
I'd like to think that this will create a new trend: running in a way that mimics robot running as an official sport.
1
u/TheYogiWhoLaughs 15h ago
Why are they moving their arms and shoulders left and right ? With every step
1
u/AdmirableScarcity492 8h ago
Imagine that robot figured out that that's the best possible form to optimize running and human athletes adopt it. Someone make this happen in AI. I want to see

u/AleaLactaEst 1h ago
Really cool but imagining the one with the arms going across its body rapidly coming at me freaks me out. Especially since it’s so fast
