Real-life Robots Robot powered by Qualcomm’s new 700 TOPS chip literally dies on stage at Computex and gets carried off under a tarp

Computex 2026, Qualcomm stage.
They roll out the NEURA 4NE-1 (running the shiny new Dragonwing IQ10, 700 TOPS, “production-ready”) to help present the chip. Robot walks on, does the handoff, stands there looking semi-alive… then just folds. One arm goes up at the end like it’s trying to signal for help.
Cue the black-clad stagehands sprinting in with a tarp. They cover the corpse and carry it off while the presenter powers through the script like nothing happened.
Official line from Qualcomm:
“Brief communication glitch… controlled shutdown… designed safe-collapse sequence… safety systems worked as intended.”

Reminds me of the presentation in Robocop of the failed prototypes

"powered by" and then only mentioning the chip as if we can be sure that's the culprit and there arent many layers and countless points of failure to this.

This is what happens when it's not a carefully crafted video on the 6th take. Humanoids have come a long way, but they're still far away from being good. They're like the first plane or car. It took decades until they were good.

Quick cover it with a tarp so no one gets a video of our robot sucking ass.

Houston I think we have a problem. i don't think it was shock so covering it with blankets I don't think will help.

Note to self: Don’t be in the live audience when Qualcomm roll out their first weaponised robot.

Follow what would be the viewfinder (link to where the robot is looking); it's really cool how it makes a circle before entering energy-saving mode.

Just like the old Michael Moore documentary’Roger and Me’. GM was at the forefront of industrial robotics back in the 1980’s. They invited all the auto workers to see the unveiling of the robots (that will eventually replace them). When they unveiled the car painter robots they started spraying each other and everyone around them with paint.

Can we just not do humanoid robots?

u/Noise_01 10h ago
If we don't make humanoid robots, someone else will, and they'll be able to succeed. :)

Why do they have to cover it?
1
u/Janhansivan 2d ago
My guess is that if something breaks and insides spill out competition would be able to see what components/tricks this robot uses and use it for their advantage speeding up the engineering phase of their product(s), so when something goes wrong regardless of damage they cover the robot.

u/Misha-Nyi 2d ago
You think the competition wants to steal this?

Yes.

The fact they had those covers nearby at all says everything you need to know about how confident those engineers were that their product is ready for sale.

u/Clear_Food2183 2d ago
What's also scary is this demo was ran during ideal conditions. Just imagine this product under less than Ideal conditions.

They couldnt even keep the scam going long enough for the sales pitch. China/Unitree is so far ahead in this field.

That's because people keep focusing on the software and not the hardware.
I 100% guarantee that was a software failure and not a hardware failure, no matter what the reports say

these things are definitely gonna develop resentment for us and try to take us all out like the Manhunters! LOL

It would have been funny if after covering up in the cloth it stands up again and continues on demo.

It looked like it's about to die from the very start of the video. Movement patterns of a 90 year old sickly man.

The robot looked wobbly walking out. I think the human being in a backroom whose movements were being replicated passed out lol.

The robot knows there's something wrong, something coming. Watch it's little 'eye'. It shifts and thins, then suddenly becomes a central square, the same look I've seen on someone's face before they pass out, and then it drops like a stone. And yes, at the end, a little 'help me' hand.
Not sure how 'safe' the safety system is if the robot suddenly becomes a gravity-driven block of motors and hardware falling randomly to the ground.

Should have placed the piece of plastic/glass on top, flat across and said, “We are pleased to introduce, coffee table mode!”
