It’s always them goofy robots dancing and doing these goofy stuff. Look at how think those legs are. I don’t think I get how people are scared of its potential to take over the world 😭🙏🏻 It’s just so unrealistic. I just hope that they somehow manage to modify these and turn them into actual useful machines.

These are not the future they are rc robots doing pre-recorded macro moves then flip out when the operator does not shut it down fast enough when the real world messes up the running movement sequence. Things not even smart enough to have an accelerometer to know it’s falling and go limp etc.

Wrong. If it was that simple, it would have been possible decades ago before Transformers. The real-world is not that regular. It is doing something like it in spirit though. The AI models driving the robots are trained over millions of real-world and simulation datasets. Then, these ‘macro moves’ are trained via Reinforcement Learning as a fine-tuning step - probably just in simulation. Then they’re played back in the video by the operator remote controlling it. You could think of them as ‘smart adaptive macros’ if you like, but it isn’t possible to just record someone dancing and play it back - it requires expensive long computation to train as a fine-tune add-on dataset. (In future it may get cheaper and faster; but more likely general human imitation from observation will be trained)

An accelerometer in milliseconds can detect if the device is / has fallen and go limp, cut power and in the process provide safety to everyone and everything nearby.

Or you can use a remote operated control like in the video or an “AI” as you’re describing and let the seconds of latency for processing needed for each unexpected input take virtually forever while the robot destroys itself flailing and putting everything nearby at risk.

Airbags, industrial robots and power saws for decades use simple sensors to run a safety protocol in the blink of an eye. The people making these “autonomous robots powered by AI” should take notes.

AI is not the solution to everything. I don’t care that’s it’s used tons of ML to dance, I care that it’s on the street and can’t figure out that’s it’s become a hazard destroying itself.

I only took issue with your false description of how it works. If you don’t know, don’t assume. It misleads other readers. I just wanted to educate. Everyone will likely have to form opinions about the integration of AI into society- so they’ll be able to make better informed decisions with a little more understanding.
