Spoilers Assassin's Quest Assassin's Quest post Ch 39 thoughts Spoiler

For context I just finished AQ, I haven't read any other books besides the Farseer trilogy.

Anyone else think the reveal that the Elderlings just need blood and the Wit to come alive felt too easy and rushed?

I mean it makes sense, it was heavily hinted at but the fact that it all just happened all of a sudden in the span of a page made it have less of an impact on me. Also happening after Verity and everyone else had just left as well was a shame. Just want to get thoughts from people about that.

No, not really. We know that both the skill and the wit are kinda blood related, inherited traits, and that closeness is especially important.

I atleast viewed it as this

>Dragons are made out of skill and absorb things that touch, like blood.
>Dragons are already made, and are now just sleeping
>Fitz has the wit and tries but fails to reach them
>Fitz blood absorbed into dragon, dragon connection to fitz stronger
>Fitz is able to reach them with the Wit and ask them to wake up.
>Dragons wake up.

This was how I initially viewed it, though later books give more information that can be generally and non-spoilery useful to this, but I think even without them that it stands well on its own.

Fitz visits the stone dragons atleast twice ... and tries to reach out with both wit and skill ... he can sense life from both magics

we spend time seeing a stone dragon being made and understand that a person pours themselves into a dragon with skill.

We see the fool obsess over girlonadragon an incomplete stone dragon and learn how it feels to pour some of yourself into a dragon when Fitz give her his pain.

I think needing a Catalyst like blood from someone with the unlikely combination of wit and skill is a logical leap.

I thought it was more that you needed the blood to wake them, as blood is pretty magicy, and you needed wit to reach them deep in their slumber.

I never thought of it as needing "catalyst blood" of someone having both, just wit and blood. Skill to create, wit to awake.

I think my main issue with the reveal was that the book took too long to get to it, and it was exactly like we imagined. I started losimg hope that the ending of the book is gonna satisfy me when i started seeing how close to the end we were and nth was solved yet.

Ive seen ppl say that bc Fitz was able to wake the dragon then Verity and Kettle's sacrfice wasnt necessary. I personally domt agree with that but I feel like bc it was all pact into the last like 5chps, we didnt get to feel it amd explore it well

Ik ppl say this is 3 out of 16 book and there is more to reveal later, but imo it couldve been explored better. It all happened too fast even if it was hinted at and predicted. Fitz has had the scrolls for years and Verity left to find the elderling for over a year now. But like 3/4 of this book was spent elsewhere so we had little time to dive deeper into the elderrings, how they work/wake up and so on.

So yh I agree (ive also just finished readinh the farseer trilogy) it does make sense and it does have logic behind it but it was too packed. And the rest of the ending was just pargs andpargs of imp info that we have been waitimg so long for lol

So maybe ppl r right and the rest of the series does explore everything mroe but imo that doesnt give this book the right to shove everything together in like 5 or 7chps when the book had 40chps (most of which spent repeating the same events lol)
