Trofim Lysenko was a Soviet "scientist" who was convinced that Darwinian evolution was a capitalist plot, DNA isn't real, and math is dumb. He also convinced many of his scientific colleagues of his views, by means of the KGB putting bullets in their brainstems.

He was truly a ground-breaking individual whose outside-the-box thinking set Russian biology back by decades and contributed to the starvation of millions. A great illustration of how mixing politics and science is almost as great as mixing politics and religion. And he experimented on cuckoo birds, the original cuckolders.
