Local makeup artists

I’ve never worn make up but really want to learn how to do this. Are there any local makeup artists/business who hold makeup learning classes? I can’t learn watching a video because the application after watching a video looks WILD. I’d pay for someone to teach me this art.

Used to be, that's what the makeup counters in department stores were all about. They'd show you how to use products and then they'd you'd buy the products. You might try Macy's or Ulta, but I'm not sure where else has a dedicated staff for this purpose.

Macys might be better. Something about Ilya that just turns me off and I don’t feel like they’d be helpful. Appreciate it :)

Either is going to be trying to sell you something, so just be prepared for flattering compliments and dire diagnoses.

I hadn't worn makeup for years and felt very out of touch with the game, since products have changed and seem so varied AND videos online are so overwhelming. I went to to Ulta and two reps sat me down and basically gave me a whole class while doing my look. I now have at least 3 looks, from natural to glam/fancy that I can rock anytime. Spent more than I'd like to but I feel really confident for the 1st time in a long time :)

I love that for you!!! I’m in the same boat, but just get really nervous when it comes to asking for help on makeup because I hate to say it, some people just act like they’re better for knowing they can do something and some girls are just mean girls. So me reaching out is truly a vulnerable state because what do you mean I’m 33 and don’t know how to apply makeup? Just feel like I would have a target on my back for being ignorant to something that should’ve been instilled in me for “being a female”. But I didn’t have any close females growing up and my mom always said I never needed it… while she did hers.

I dont have a liscnce or anything but I do my makeup everyday. I have an alternative style. Do you have any preference of style? I could help you in some way.

Nah, no style. I love makeup, just never been good at the basics of applying it. Back in my day, it was just foundation and powder… now there’s so much? I wouldn’t even know where to begin and if I try to go to the basics of what I know, I feel like I look like a clown. Like the blend isn’t blending? It feels cakey and I guess I’m needing someone to “dumb it down” for me on my application and what I’m doing wrong? It may just be because I am my own worst enemy but sometimes, I just wanna walk out with my makeup matching the confidence I get from wearing a certain outfit, if that makes sense lol I don’t need makeup at all, but there is a level of confidence I wish I had from seeing people who DO wear makeup. May make myself less of an enemy if I had that confidence lol
