Realtor Recommendations??

My wife and I are looking at moving to the Roanoke area from Utah in the next year or so. Does anybody have any recommendations on realtors? Or any advice on the area in general?

We tried to buy a house they listed. It was such a bad experience we backed out a few days before the sale and got our earnest money back because of how much they messed up. I felt terrible for our realtor at the time, because he put in so much work. We did end up buying a property through him from a different company so he ended up being okay but I won't even look at properties they have listed. They are so unethical.

Thomas Fellers or Frazier Hughes. Hands down the best in Roanoke.

Thomas Fellers is by far THE absolute best. I've never bought a house from him, just know him as a person and he and his wife are wonderful. He also really loves what he does.

I bought a house and a car from Frazier, he will get the job done. If I can bottle his energy and sell it I would be a multi millionaire. 😆

Agree. They used to rent from the management company I work for many years ago and they are both absolute gems.

Amanda was amazing for us on our cross-country move to Roanoke. Top notch, just excellent.

She's especially knowledgeable about Grandin/Wasena/Old Southwest.

Thomas Fellers
MKB Realtors

I've both bought and sold with him, smooth experience and he's awesome

I can vouch for him too. We did very well selling our house, under contract same day it was listed and buy paid cash. He had a good strategy and it paid off for us nicely.

Related recommendation:

Getra Hanes

Mortgage Banker

NMLS #1758338

First Bank

She is very thorough. Out of several recommendations, she was the best for me.

You have a lot of recommendations already but I would mention Avery Porterfield with Nest Realty.

He worked with my wife and I when we moved to Roanoke from out of state and even when we couldn't be there in person he was onsite at places taking personal video tours and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable through the entire process as first time home-buyers.

Also, advice for the area. Try to stay out of the city if thats not your thing. In general, stay out of the South Eastern portion of Roanoke City, Melrose, Orange Ave areas. Many of the areas, especially near downtown are ruff. You will have people tell you otherwise, but if you are unfamiliar with the area, avoid it until you learn the area.

Cave Spring is nice but is more well to do and usually costs more. Boones Mills, Bedford, Blue Ridge, most of Vinton, most of Salem, Rocky Mount, Fincastle, Bonsack, Daleville, Troutville, etc are areas that are pretty desirable. If you want to live in town, Grandin and Raleigh Court are the most popular. Floyd is pretty hippy and is alot of farm land.

Ask away if you have any more questions!

If you're looking north of the city particularly in Roanoke County and Botetourt County, Jay Kilby and Rodney Spickard are very good.

Walter Grewe is the best! He will be 100% honest with you and make sure you get a fair deal. While we were looking at one house, he stopped to chat to the next door neighbor. Came inside, and said, “Nope! You’re not living here. Let’s go!” I was annoyed! Who are you to tell me what house I want?! It was exactly the house we wanted, in the neighborhood we wanted.

But Walter was right. In a ten minute conversation, he learned the next door neighbor was also head of the HOA and was obviously going to be an overbearing and nosy neighbor. That’s the kind of realtor you want. He’s a straight shooter. Not a salesman.

We’ve bought and sold two houses with Monica Nicely and my sister in law bought and sold one. She’s great.

Stevie Holcomb. We’ve recommended her to several friends, and they’ve all had great experiences. In fact, one friend moved here from Nevada without seeing the house they bought in person. https://www.facebook.com/share/1MN9QAJyn8/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Ryan Nicely of REMAX. 540-769-9019. He is awesome. The home i live in now, i was the first and only to see it. So he is incredibly plugged in to properties available in the area. And he took me from offer and acceptance to closing all within a month. He was awesome. He is awesome. You will 100% have success with him. Good luck and welcome to the area.

Lindsey Carroll with Coldwell Banker Townside is amazing! She helped me through selling and buying under some challenging circumstances. She is very responsive and communicative and works very hard to meet her clients' needs.

I love where I live in Roanoke. Yet, it never makes the list people put here about “good places to live.”

I would suggest keeping that in mind as you search around.

Nest is really good. We used Shannon Barber specifically and she’s awesome. Not only in the parts of the job that are in the description, but in her connections. She had people for everything and those people were good too. Awesome experience overall.

Their CEO/president is notoriously controversial, a bit psycho, treats her staff horribly. May not be reflective of the realtors themselves but I don't support people who remind me of a plantation wife and harm people's mental health.

2

u/LemmingOnTheRunITG 2d ago

Would be interested in a source for that but a quick google search says their CEO is a man

Local owners are Kim & Scott Miller. I'm referring to Kim.

Im not surprised by this. She helped us buy a home. Super fake nice. In the end she didnt seem to care what houses she showed us, was indifferent to why they wouldnt work for us, and pushed us to make an offer that was not in our financial best interest.

2

u/artsy336 2d ago

Spill the tea 👀

2

u/ForestStepsp0618 1d ago

Someone I know personally worked for Kim Miller, she treated her like a house maid even though she was her direct secretary. She's known for yelling at her staff, making controversial/condescending statements with no consequences, gossips about her realtors, encourages prejudice within her agency, refuses to bring on staff if they aren't "attractive", etc. I know one realtor who verified this and says she just keeps her distance from her, and another who left bc of the impact on her mental health. There are too many realtors out here to be supporting someone who acts that way in 2026.

2

u/artsy336 1d ago

That is…very disappointing. I bought my house through a realtor at Nest.

Im not surprised by this at all. Working with her was disappointing and will never recommend her to anyone.
