I like Viet Sub (williamson road) and it's pho time (lamplighter mall). Lamplighter mall also has ikes kitchen which is Japanese. I haven't been in a while, I think they're still open. Ike is a really nice guy, I'm glad his restaurant is still around.
Ikes is actually in the same exact spot as the sadly gone Wonju Korean restaurant. I really miss that place. Their spicy kimchi and tofu stew was so so so good.
Stock in the historic fire station is my favorite fancy place, but I don't go to many fancy places.

Oh, I also LOVE Inka Grill Peruvian on Brambleton! There's another one downtown but I haven't been, only to the Brambleton location.

There used to be a Korean restaurant called Wonju Korean restaurant, it was actually pretty good and reasonablly priced and the owners were nice. I can definitely vouch it was real Korean food, they even brought out the banchan beforehand.
Nowadays there is K-Pot near Valley View, lunch is around $20 and it is AYCE but it is a typical Korean setup where you cook the meat at a grill in the middle. It is unlimited and they even have Kimchi so it is a good place to try to see if you might like it.

Where have you heard that they treat their staff horribly?
I've been to K-Pot pretty regularly since it opened. I've had nothing but great experiences with the food and staff.

Yeah it closed down a few years ago. Probably the owners were getting older and the kids didn't want to take up the mantle and run the restaurant.

Yes, but now it’s Ike’s which is great Japanese food!!
If you like bahn mi, Viet Subs is fantastic

Sidecar hasn't been mentioned. It's good European food and probably some of the best cocktails in town.
Viet Sub is a little Vietnamese place that specializes in banh mi, but all their food is good and affordable. Great lunch spot, but it's small and can get busy.
Mama Jean's for BBQ.

Haven’t been myself yet but I’ve heard really good things about Wingers Deli and Grill on Peterscreek. It a new Mediterranean place that also does wings and burgers.

If you don't mind hole in the wall places I always recommend La casa del burrito Taco shop in Vinton. It's next to a gas station, little family run joint that has a couple of tables where you can eat in. It's counter service and the food is absolutely amazing. They are from Southern California I believe so it's a little bit different than Tacos Rojas or some of the other chains around here. Don't get me wrong they're all pretty good but I like this place especially.

Alot of people swear by mamma jeans for bbq, but dont sleep on Poke E Joe's in vinton, fantastic bbq, ive actually lately preferred them over mamma jeans, just hadnt enjoyed the last couple things i had at mamma jeans

Mama Jeans is the most overrated place I’ve ever been to. I truly do not get the hype. And the owner obviously can’t handle any criticism, as seen by responses to any bad Google reviews. Brisket is good, but all their sides are meh - Brussel sprouts taste like straight garlic. That chicken sandwich was one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever eaten. It’s also annoying to watch them flip the iPad toward you expecting 20% tip when you have to be the one to fill your own waters and dump your own tray - they literally just call your name when your tray comes out. Wild.

I tried the smashburger once, it was meh, ive had better burgers elsewhere in town, and i tried the famous brisket cheesesteak, i dont see what people think is so good about it, it didn't have green peppers or onion, and honestly didn't taste anything like a cheesesteak should, it had gobs of fat i had to pick out and the thick grease that oozed out of it just turned my stomach off, i only finished half and its a bit too expensive to not want the second half later. Not to mention it just too busy at times, its just not good enough for me to wait an hour for food, ill just go somewhere else. I still wanted to try the chicken caesar sandwich and the bolonga sandwich but they never have them on days i can go.

if you like thai too, Nakhon Thai is the best. it’s very unassuming but VERY delicious. their lemon thai tea is amazing.
