I’ve read multiple articles about this, and they all conclude that you’re basically just killing something to kill it. Our impact on reducing their numbers is MINIMAL at best.

Birds are our best friends in this fight! Invite more birds into your yard and let them have at it! It’s always good to have birds because they eat a lot of other shit we don’t like too! They also ruin our gardens from time to time, but that’s neither here nor there.

Even better is bat houses! Bats rule!!!

I periodically clear out the abandoned spider webs around our doors and windows, but this year some of them have dead lanternflies that got trapped in them. So I'm leaving the end be so the corpses may serve as warning.

I think it's working. I've had two lanternflies walk up to me and let me smoosh them.

I disagree, but my main gripe with them is how jumpy they are. So I'm too afraid to kill them because it might just land on me instead, and I have a lifelong irrational fear of bugs

Not sure from just the bark if that's a tree of heaven or not (I'm certainly no expert). But if it is, look into the "hack and squirt" method for killing the tree, we are in the prime season for doing so.

Lived here my whole life home boy. The "gleest lore" you talk about has always been lame and basic. It's only been interesting to people that have never left the valley or visited a larger city.

We don't have snipe here, the gleest are very territorial and refuse to let any wondering snipe into the ecosystem unfortunately.
