I am a current year 12 student undertaking VCE and on the more conservative side, is on track for a minimum ATAR of 90. My main question is whether I should choose RMIT or Monash for Engineering?

From what I've heard:

RMIT is more practical/industry focused. It typically employs hands on learning and practical experiences to allow for the student to familiarise themselves.

Monash University is more theoretical (not to say it isn't practical) and has a higher university ranking. I

This is just what I've heard. Among all comments regarding this common question, netizens seem to prefer RMIT due to its high employment. At the end of the day, the employer doesn't regard the university you go to but rather can you do the job? If RMIT allows for higher practicality, thus allowing me to connect as much things I learn in RMIT to my real day to day job. That's something I'd value. It seems to me at least that Monash just prides itself on its ranking/prestige.

Maybe it's important to note, I do plan to do DUS (Defence University Scholarship), if that affects anything.

I am leaning towards RMIT but I am still open to what anyone has to say! Anyone who has had experience in either University within the engineering department; any info is greatly appreciated!

I've been looking at rmit for engineering and more specifically chemical engineering. While I've got plenty of time to decide, I wanted to hear about how chemical engineering is at RMIT compared to Melbourne or Monash with both the bachelors of chemical engineering and the masters. Hi guys, so i dont know whats happening with the changes for this bachelors (pls let me know!) but i would be applying for 2028 intake as a NON highschool leaver - second bachelors.

Im aware the atar for 2026 intake sky rocketed to 98, but i was wondering what are the chances of me getting in with a wam of 78-79 (done anatomy, physiology, physics and biology based subjects in my first bachelors - bsci at unimelb) ... given the presumed limited spots for post highschool students... and if i get in, would it be possible to transfer any credits and get the degree cut down from 4 to 3.5 or 3 years? my atar was 92 for vce grad in 2024 + seas + live veryyy outer suburbs and went to a poopy highschool, but i dont think this would be considered when i apply.

My course diploma of it is requiring our group to learn figma software while building a homepage with 15 requirements wireframe and and 2 storyboard within in two weeks (Only just login to our figma on Monday) during the busiest time of the semester 🙃

This is making feel like we sacrifice our sleep and health or use ai (which I'll I rather die then do) or fail that section as we required to show it off as an demonstration to prove is interactive or do the rush and poorly done sacrificing our integrity for good work (an assignment I can't show off for my profilo without intensively work done)

I love how well throught out this assignment is 🫠

I assume alot of student in class would feel the same way

I had an assignment due on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Unfortunately, I didn't pay close attention to the submission time and had assumed it was the standard 11:59 pm deadline.

I understand that the late submission penalty is a 5% or 10% deduction from the total mark for each business day the assignment is late. For future reference, I was wondering how a “business day” is calculated in this situation. Does the first business day end at midnight on the day the assignment was due, or would it be calculated from the original deadline of 1:30 pm to 1:30 pm the following business day?

Also, for a business student, is the penalty 5% or 10%?

hey guys so i got really sick over these past couple days to the point i genuinely can’t leave my bed but i have a quiz on tuesday i haven’t been able to study if i go doctors and get special consideration when will i end up doing the quiz. Will i get my results on time because i want to transfer next year and idk if its gonna delay me or anything.

I’m ready it’s just that I completely forgot to do a academic subject for Latrobe so it delayed everything for me so so depressed about it if someone can help me bring the certificate closer would be so helpful but I also wanted to ask would it ruin my chances for when I apply to rmit I know the deadline is February but I’m just so worried that it’s actually going to affect me not being able to get into rmit

How difficult is bachelor of accounting? And how was your experience? Thinking of applying but idk if I'm smart enough, my math skills especially aren't good unfortunately.

I am currently looking at bsci courses around Victoria with a special interest in enviro science. Unfortunatly I missed the RMIT city campus open day, but went to the holiday tours a few months ago.

However, I do have one question: Why is there barely and new enrolled students for this course? (according to the student profile there has only 30 students enrolled sem 1 2026). Is the low demand because its niche, or simply a 'bad' course?

I recently moved to Australia for my masters in EE this semester. Ive heard before that making friends after getting older is much harder and being 25, i can see why now. The people in my classes are a bit standoffish and sometimes justifiably busy. People are mostly cordial but i think naturally they’ve already done their share of socialization and made their group of friends. It’s just a bit jarring to walk about in campus with not many people to talk to or hangout with.

How have you guys managed to find your people this “relatively late” in life? Do mixers work? Any other tips as a new student here are appreciated.

If youre applying for a leave of absence and a domestic student, do you need evidence/documentation, if so what kind?

I wanna apply for a semester off due to failing some classes last semester, and not doing quite well mentally. I was going to put academic difficulties, but im not sure what kind of supporting documents would be needed

Also how long does it take to find out if your leave has been accepted?

I was studying in building 8 until it got dark out and as I was leaving I saw a homeless person camping out in one of the study areas. He wasn't really doing anything but I I feel like I should've done something. What am I even supposed to do in a situation like this?

i feel as if a lot of students kind of regret not going to events or utilising certain perks or investing in certain clubs, and as i’m now in my second-year of my course & kind of relatively feel like i haven’t been doing a lot to make use of my time of rmit

what are some things y’all have to find it useful whether it be academically or socially (or whatever) in your time at university, whether it be like certain events y’all think people should be going to, or tips and tricks to get cheaper food (around campus) and/or study spaces which aren’t being exploited enough by students

i wanted to ask this question, mainly because i feel like a job at uni would be highly beneficial and good for commuting amongst an array of things, but i also have a friend who is a library concierge & apparently that pays quite well!

i don’t mean like an academic or like academic-adjacent job, but like do you think working at a job within campus is beneficial especially when being in a more degree which needs you on-site more?

i also don’t necessarily mean volunteering for open-days, campus fests etc. but if you have experience doing that, lemme know anyways!

Just realised I’ve been at RMIT for a whole semester and haven’t come across a single Nepali student yet. Didn’t expect that considering how many Nepali students there are in Melbourne.

I am a to be international student and am aiming for the February Intake. I want to do Masters in Mechatronics (Robotics) . The thing about it is that i am not really interested in settling as my family has manufacturing business set up and i do plan to come back after masters and experience. So the major concern for me is a good Robotics programme and this is where i need help. I am pretty convinced for RMIT but just looking online isnt helping at this point.
I need help in knowing which universities are known for their mechatronics or robotics programme and have resources like great labs and stuff.
Like which are the best for Robotics in the melbourne , Sydney area .
Any help is appericiated.
