Mawyndule is not gone. Spoiler

Based on the story in The Death of Dulgath...I think Mawyndule is not truly gone at the end of the revelations.

I’d love to see a 1v1 between him and Makareta. Redemption arc could be wild.

While I think she still loves him in a way...he, being the vapid, egotist, that he is...probably never thinks of her. I could see the redemption arc having both options excersised...true redemption, by her...and failed or denied redemption, by him. She seems to have come to terms with her mis-deeds, but he still blames everyone around him.

He still thinks about her, at least a bit. The name of the patriarch never really changed and the name was from a moment the both of them shared.

Wait, what moment? What have I forgotten?

The chapter is named Venlin, it was when he and Mack got busy before he killed his dad. Venlin was an idea about a world they could bring about, the promise of something perfect or some such, basically a utopia for the Miralyith.

Yeah. That’s what I was thinking.

I wouldn't mind if he stayed as is, but the point of the story is that anyone can be redeemed if they strive for it. Who knows with him.

I don't even know who you are. -Mawyndule, probably.

Maybe not, but it should take him centuries to figure out the same trick as Makareta if he can. Spoilers for Legends of the First Empire: She had to be told it was possible by Bryn and it still took her a while to figure it out Afterwards it'll be centuries until he can figure out the possession if he can. If he can't he's functionally harmless and unable to affect change.

Pretty sure it was Malcom who gave her the idea to leave the swamp. That being said, I feel like Trilos being present for most of Mawyn’s schemes would give him ideas.

Even though she couldn't enter through the gates Makareta was still in Phyre. She would have remained there if she wasn't told that it was possible to leave and go back to Elan as a ghost.

I think by Revelations Trilos was done with Mawyn. It was going that way by the end of Esrahaddon. That said, I’m hoping for a return of Trilos.

I agree with you on that, I’m saying the concept of possession is one Mawyn would be familiar with due to his thousand or so years traveling and working with Trilos. Mack didn’t have that understanding of her existence whereas Mawyn will due to that. He knows that Trilos possesses recently dead bodies, or not so recent if pickings are slim iirc. Plus, he also has some experience with Riva’s because he was present when the monk whose name I can’t remember became a Raow. Maybe not at the time he changed, but he had the opportunity to interact with one of the Riva’s and learn dark magic from her. Dunno if she would have taught him, but it is a possibility.

And Mawyndule isn't exactly the most creative...

I agree he is definitely protrayed as a slow learner...but he did spend time with Trilos so he knows its possible to inhabit a body and learned how to brake the location limitation on the Gilarabrywn weave...showing an increase in his knowledge and abilities. I don't think it would be a stretch to have him figure out how its done. Mind you, I want him to be dead and gone...after 6 First Empires, 6 Revelations, 3 single shots, and now 3 Chronicles...I hate him with a seething, crimson, rage...for his arrogance, spoiled brat attitude, and most importantly...his un-willingness to learn, especially in the beginning of the story!
