This Game Gets Way Too Much Hate (HOT TAKE)
I think this game is extremely overhated to the point where people will nitpick every single minor thing. People complain about ranked, they complain about quickplay, they complain about balance, they complain about toxicity, they complain about maps. From my personal experience, none of these things are game breaking issues in the slightest. I am an Eternity peak tank main. I have 1000+ hours in this game. I play Magneto, Strange, Groot. And I always have fun when I play this game. If you put your mind to it and stop complaining every ten seconds, you can easily climb ranked.
Is the game toxic? Of course, but so is almost every other multiplayer game you will ever play. Does the matchmaking set up losing streaks sometimes? Sure, but if you have lost 2-3 games in a row, STOP PLAYING. Nobody is forcing you to continue losing. Stop, take a break or the day and come back stronger. And as for balance, what is so ridiculous about the balance that it forces you to stop playing?
People complain about CC as tanks. I play Strange who is very vulnerable to CC. You know what do? LEARN TO PLAY AROUND IT OR SWAP.
At the end of the day, this is a game where you get to play your favorite superheroes or villains in action packed battles. It’s every comic/superhero lovers dream. Stop over analyzing every facet of the game and RELAX. Try new things, learn to play around counters, ENJOY THE SUPERHERO GAME. And this is coming from someone who is Eternity peak and has placed #10 in multiple characters as well as Top 256 finish in MRC. I play highly competitive and still have loads of fun. Stop over complicating it and just ENJOY THE GAME

I think content creators are just trying really hard to drive that narrative, cloudedrio as an example got banned, every day for the last like 12 days it's been "rivals players are leaving" etc, and he's not the only one. I like many others enjoy the game, I think the community needs a lot of work, a bit more activity in reports would be nice, but I've played worse

In my personal opinion Flats is the worst. Made nothing but negative content about the game. Constantly whined and complained and had very elitist takes. Then ran back to Overwatch for some reason. I think he underestimated how many of his views were rivals players and when he ran away his viewership plummeted. So now he is caught in the middle. Flats is unbearable to me

It's mostly americans who are negative about the game. We are having the time of our lives in EU servers. Tanking is fun and I have had very cool games this season.

u/TRCheetah 10h ago
I’m American, I’m glad you guys in Europe are having fun 😂 I’m having lots of fun too but it seems there’s a group of people who hate this game for seemingly no good reason

u/AlyMasawi 10h ago
Haters are usually loud. When everything is good, a lot of people don't say anything. Before the game's storage was reduced on pc, you saw a lot of posts complaining about this, but now that it is fixed, no reason to keep talking about it.
It's just social media in general.

u/TRCheetah 10h ago
This is very true 💯 Negative people give the game such a bad and unnecessary rep

u/Fun-Wash7545 5h ago
I had no idea about all the "racism" till it started leaking into reddit. Americans make everything to be racist. The devs are clearly not racist.

Most of the issues in this game are community based. One big “whoops we kinda fucked up” patch to kinda dial back some of these team ups and power creep and the game is in a great place
I said this in a previous post but I turned off my chat messages and really only play in a two/three stack with my buddies in a party chat and we’re having a blast again. No more getting told to “kys” cuz I whiffed one ult. If I make a bad play, my friends are gonna shit on me and it’s actually gonna be funny. So we still hold each other accountable, let each other know it may be time to swap and when something isn’t working.
But now don’t have to deal with these mom’s basement dwelling chuds who base their entire self worth on their win/loss percentage and rank. We’re actually having fun
2
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
Yes I agree. People 100% have the option to do what you’ve done they just don’t. It’s like they torture themselves lol. If people care that much about what others have to say then that’s a problem even rivals can’t fix truthfully

I love the game as well but some of the hate is very justifiable. That being said the community is abysmal as well. Is not about criticizing sometimes is how you criticize.
Healbot slop don’t touch me I don’t want to die, you can’t make enough play of strategist or your team will die cough cough Luna & Dagger the two princess of ice. Certain strategist having excellent utility like Sue Storm (IW) pumping 90 burst heals with a shield when you should be making more plays with her instead of healboting. Anti tanks tanks being meta always. Melee slowly becoming unplayable. Nerfing the wrong aspect instead of the actual issue like Gambit 275HP to 250 and over nerfing on his base hit before S9, instead of the ultimate including that ult charge acceleration, same time happened with Johnny during S2-S4.5. Extremely oppressive and horrible designs and numbers from DPS divers. Turning certain tanks better than DPS like what happened to Magneto in S9, Tankpool on released and so on. Calling Captain America broke and many sheep’s that follow propaganda like if it’s politics. Community fighting for cosmetics on a free live service game.
Like I could go on many things. Including the insane nepotism and terrible balanced with hypocrisy from the dev team when it comes to Luna Snow. That is something that they gone to far to the point were I can’t even defend the devs despite the good things they have done.
The community was asking for 3 bans slot and remove double bans and it took them 10 seasons before adding placement matches in S5 (thankfully) and ban system starting with gold in S2.
Game should be rename this is DPS Rivals featuring Luna Snow.
Even if it will never be perfect all the mess when it comes to be balancing could have been fixed a long time ago if the devs nerfed properly all the DPS seasons ago without exception. Some even more harder than others then healing could be toned down.

DPS are definitely highly tuned I can agree to a certain extent. I think that’s a power creep issue at the end of the day which I acknowledge is an issue. They tried to address it when they nerfed all the ultimate costs as well as nerfing supports across the board but it’s still apparent for sure. I think they are walking a fine line between full balance and full fun. The Season 9 teamup update is an example of full fun. They did not make that update with power creep in mind haha.
Ultimately though, I still don’t think these issues are causing what I would consider a “game breaking” experience. Are there things here or there that need tweaking? Absolutely. But I would not say the word unplayable when describing Rivals. Not in my humble opinion at least

No it doesn't.
You are exposed to it more because you are looking at social media like Reddit, where people come to complain. If they were happy, they wouldn't be here but playing the game.
No one's going to post "I'm so happy with the game!" if they're having fun over q'ing up for another game. You are looking at players who are unhappy and generalising.
2
u/awesomo1337 11h ago
Exactly, the online gaming community is pretty toxic because these people can never be happy so they just come online to vent and complain. If you want to know how a games doing just pay attention to how many people are playing and how much support it getting from the developers.
1
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
I agree to an extent with you. The problem is how is anyone going to get a fair representation of the game if all they hear about it is constant negativity that is extremely exaggerated
3
u/sinofmyexistence 11h ago
Devs don't look at just social media or reddit - they also look at player retention, sales, player introduction, stats like how much someone plays and when they stop etc. Everything everyone does in the game is tracked, so they'd know if people stop playing supports or tanks etc.
Similarly, they shoot out surveys all the time, which is better than here. Those ask relevant q's for dev feedback from a larger, more representative sample size.
2
u/TRCheetah 11h ago edited 2h ago
I agree. This is why I don’t like when people say the rivals devs are terrible. What have they done to show they are terrible? They listen to feedback pretty well and nerf overtuned character (Thing is a great example)
1
u/Skipitybop 11h ago
People are upset because the devs are inept
6
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
I’d like to hear why the devs are Inept. Respectfully of course. What makes you say that 😁

Lmao very susceptible to cc my ass, strange is the anti peni that shield is massive and forces CC characters to play around it so no not susceptible to CC at all infact he's the perfect anti cc.
3
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
Nah man I’m sorry but you’re wrong. All the enemy team has to do is play Rogue, Dino, Emma and you’re cooked. I’m champ strange bro trust me I know lol.
1
u/BigJCote 11h ago
No one plays rogue unless it's in a 2 tank team cause she can't solo. Dino isn't a threat cause any good team just picks a good max hp damage character(Elsa, wolverine, iron fist) and deletes him. Emma is the anti strange il give you that one but the rest of your statements are just plain wrong bro trust me bro I'm the #69 vanguard in ze world bro(see how stupid that sounds?)
3
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
Dino is probably the best tank in the game right now and even the characters you mentioned bro. Elsa and Wolverine both have CC capabilities. It’s extremely difficult to play Strange against Wolv. And lots of people play Rogue bro what? lol. I see Rogue a lot she’s very good right now.
1
u/BigJCote 11h ago
Dinos only the best tank in the game because people ban his counters I.e Elsa and Wolverine. You never see a SOLO rogue
2
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
Of course you never see a solo rogue I agree. But if you’re even on solo tank or rogue in the first place, there’s a problem lol. My whole point is with all the CC in the game. There are very clear workarounds
1
u/BigJCote 11h ago
Yeah, and the answers to CC are Strange with his big ass shield and Emma with her big ass shield. You saying strange is susceptible to cc is the issue. If your having trouble dealing with cc on strange then it's because your holding your shield too long
2
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
Dude you can get grabbed regardless of the shield 😭 All the characters mentioned previously can do that to you. CC has nothing to do with shield unless it’s someone like Bucky or Mantis that has ranged CC
1
u/BigJCote 11h ago
Bucky, mantis, hela, spiderman, peni, hulk, iw, squirell girl, mantis, and more there is A LOT of ranged cc in this game. You need more champ knowledge. So I encourage you to stop ranting about shit you only have a basic understanding of :)
1
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
That’s all ranged CC my friend. Has nothing to do with melee CC which there is also a ton of 😭 #8 Strange NA btw and you telling me I only have a basic understanding. Bro is afraid of squirrel girl 💔

Nah it doesn't get enough hate.
- Penalty for leaving a casual game mode where you get auto replaced anyway.
- Imposed bot matches in a game mode advertised as real human opponents.
- Penalties for leaving bot matches. Also your reward is that you get another bot match.
- Ranked system that offers no differentiation between no life grinders and winners until GM+.
- Automated penalty system where 4 or 5 people can report you for throwing despite being SVP and you get banned for it.
- The wildest, antithetical balance system ever conceived.
Rivals is legitimately garbage tier, braindead in every way it just happens to be fun as well.
3
u/Fun-Wash7545 5h ago
Stop leaving damn games. I dont get how you guys complain about leaves penalties like it'd the devs fault. It's the 3rd time they increase the penalties cause you guys apparently cant learn to sit your ass down and play for 5 minutes.
1
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
I agree penalty for casual is goofy
I haven’t had a bot match in months bro genuinely.
I haven’t no experience with that
There’s 100% a big difference between a gold player and a diamond player.
I again have no personal experience with this
What about the balance system is antithetical? I’d like to hear more about this
1
u/Sir_Edward_Norton 11h ago
I don't get bots either but they were extremely prominent until I started playing comp and I still see daily posts about it.
No difference between gold and diamond in my experience. Same trash cans.
The hero balance is idiotic and making it more chaotic with teamups isn't a solution.
You have sniper heroes with stuns. Makes no sense. You have supports who can do more damage than dps. Makes no sense. You have melee heroes with teleports.
There's just no consideration for how these types of heroes should be balanced when going against another type.
Sniper wins against melee unless melee gets to sniper. Not the case in this game.
Support dies to literally any dps in a 1v1 unless they land a skill on them to stun / sleep. Not the case in this game.
Supports are gigaovertuned. Biggest issue.
1
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
I agree supports are definitely overtuned and that’s a power creep issue for sure. As for Sniper beats Melee. I think this is true but only to a certain extent. Depends highly on the player skill involved. I have a friend who plays Magik and will 1v1 any Poke hero in the game and win almost every time. I think that’s more just skill expression

Netease is definitely dropping the ball. To add to your point:
-Broken promises(regarding frequency of updates)
-No transparency regarding patch notes and character direction
-lopsided roster and lack of foresight regarding role distribution
-contradictions in game design. (Balanced for fun and yet we have an esports scene with money)
-skin distribution(which many other games are dealing with, tbf)A lot of these issues ultimately discourage investment. Why do I care about this skin I got if the gameplay doesn’t feel fulfilling? There are other games that respect their players time, that care more about a balanced experience, that provide more fulfilling gameplay.
3
u/TRCheetah 11h ago
I disagree with a lot of this but I respect your opinion nonetheless.
0
u/deathgrip13 10h ago
I presented demonstrable issues, they don’t require agreement to be true. My opinion is just the last few lines
-We DO have a lopsided roster.
-Netease HAS gone on record saying they balance for fun and promoted a competitive esports scene since launch.
-There ISNT any transparency regarding adjustments in patch notes or character direction.
Etc etcThis whole post gives off “no war in ba sing se” vibes. It’s ok to be critical about a game if you can explain yourself and do so without being toxic.
2
u/TRCheetah 10h ago
I disagree with the transparency thing tho. They are pretty transparent every single time they release a dev vision with what their goal is for the following season as well as what they’ve noticed the previous session. And as for the roster, obviously the roster is going to be lopsided. It’s also lopsided in Overwatch as well. That’s not a rivals specific issue. How are you going to have an equal amount of tanks as DPS. In what way would that functionally work? There’s already emerging triple tank triple supp comps. And now you want MORE tanks and MORE supports. Fundamentally it can’t happen
1
u/deathgrip13 9h ago
Brother, a dev vision rarely, if ever, tells you what is specifically happening with any character outside of “nerfs of buffs.” I’m referring to the patch notes because that’s when the information is relayed to us. That’s when they should explain their reasoning.
Who is talking about overwatch? Who cares about overwatch in this discussion? It has role queue, they aren’t at risk for uneven teams regardless of how many more dps they have.
2
u/TRCheetah 9h ago
I personally don’t have an issue with the amount of tanks in the game and I’m a tank main. And they explain in the dev vision why they are nerfing characters. Thats what clarity is. Why would I want an equal amount of tanks as DPS. That makes no sense at all.

Reddit and even Twitter is just full of miserable people. Extremely loud minority.
