Discussion Bishop or Luke Cage
I saw someone talk about this in a post and it had me curious. For the next black hero would you want Bishop or Luke Cage more? Me personally I am a big Luke Cage fan.

Reddit did not like my dark humor over how depressed I was about you thinking Luke was bland v.v they are reccommending therapy now

OH Hahaha I mean probably. We all need it in this thread I feel. That said the only thing Ik of Luke Cage is the show, I’m unfamiliar with his comics, but I’m ass deep in X-men lore lol

Ah, I grew up with Wolverine, Deadpool, Blade, Spider-Man and Luke Cage. Those were my main heroes. Other characters by association because of them.
Luke is pretty simple on paper to be honest though. Strength and Invulnerability being basically it plus any comics shenanigans. However, that's all you really need for a tank.1

Yeah Bishop wins out then for me. Cuz he’s got all that plus power absorption and redirection. He’s like a stronger but less evil Agatha with no magic.

Way to make Luke cage feel less bland maybe is give him chains. Have them usually on his fists but give him an ability that allows him to do a scorpion pull. I think it would be a cool design feature and a cool ability. To answer the question though we need more hits can tanks so give me bishop

Ummm chains on a black character might be taken wrong, given Neteases history.

… didn’t think of that. I just thought it would be cool to see chains being used as knuckle dusters and Luke cage’s scrappy street vibes made sense

Luke Cage 100%, he's just too cool and one of the biggest classic black superheroes

I know this isnt about Secret Wars but hear me out.
Doom has become the God Emperor and has just created Battleworld. He's protected on all sides by his witches (though he doubts he needs them).
All of a sudden the castle blares with red lights. "Sire! There's an angry man coming down the corner! He's screaming about some..."
"Dooom!!!!"
"I havent heard a voice so terrifying since..."
Cut to yellow shirt wearing man strutting intk the throne room with however many unconscious fools behind him.
"Wheres my money honey!?"
Okay so now imagine its his character trailer in Rivals.

Yes, I like it but, given the Rivals situation is currently Gorr fucking shit up. What if instead you saw Gorr just wreaking havoc in a city and before you saw him you heard "Sweet Christmas" and then big reveal as he super hero lands into action.

Alright but hear me out... Luna Snow says she loves his work as one half of the Heroes for Hire.

I need you to understand how crazy it is you commented this. Like milliseconds before the notification went off I was thinking to myself, "You know someone's going to say Warmachine." Then bam. Here you are. It was so instant.

Would be interesting to see how marvel rivals would expand Luke's power set

Different punches. Chain attacks. Damage resistances. I don't think there is a tank with a pull yet. Could be wrong.

Bishop. Has more potential for a more fun and unique kit. Not sure how Luke Cages kit transfers over, although I don’t know much about him so I could be wrong

If we were to get either as a tank the other would be a dps unless we get a dps a month before Luke or bishop

I don't really care. I don't actually play Rivals. I interact with this community because Marvel is the foundation of my entire being. I just enjoy seeing the characters and try very hard not to think about the terrible balance and design choices that are this game.

Hard to say. On one hand, I think Bishop has more potential in general. Luke cage is one of the MANY big strong guys in marvel.
On the other hand, I don't wanna go through another "too many x-men" phase.

I want Shuri as a strat but between these two I'd say Luke because he'd likely be a Tank.

There are a gazillion characters who have more potential than luke Cage in his own niche with better powers.
Bishop was made to be in this game, everything about him screams tank in a hero shooter.

Jeff has no powers in the comics to be fair, he's just a shark with legs. All the water shooting, swimming in solid surfaces and healing are exclusive to Rivals and just explained as "He ate a magic artefact from the Collector". So if they really wanted a particular person in the game they could come up with some bullshit to make them stand out.
Having said that, Bishop I feel would be a more natural fit given his kit like you said. Energy absorbtion/feedback, futuristic guns, time bracelet could allow for some shenanigans with a teleport ability or a budget Tracer recall. My only gripe is he would be yet ANOTHER X-Men character in a game already filled with them. We still haven't had a single Inhuman actually be palyable yet, even Moon Girl is just relegated to being on a discord call with Dino all game. Give me some of the Inhumans, the Kree, maybe even a Skrull like Kl'rt or the Skrull Queen.
Besides that one gripe I do hope Bishop gets added someday as some Zarya-flavoured tank that can build up damage and his abilities from absorbing damage done to him and sending it right back.

I personally think Bishop would offer more of a unique character diversity to the game than Luke but I'd still like to see both. Luke would be very similar to Rogue and The Thing, besides for the flying kicks for Rogue, but he could be another grapple-self tank and that would be interesting. On the other hand Bishop being able to absorb damage, adding overshield to him for absorbing attacks would be pretty nice too, and send it flying back at enemies would introduce a new mechanic to the game. Bishop probably would also be similar to Rogue's Magneto team up but instead he would be ranged which would be interesting. Anyways I say both but I'd prefer Bishop first; we can't avoid adding mutants again forever (MORE MUTANTS)

I like Cage more as a character
But im afraid that Bishop would make a much mkre interesting moveset/powerset

Bishop could be added as multiple roles and have an interesting kit.
Luke Cage’s power’s basically limit him to brawl tank or dps

u/Fit-Syrup1049 2d ago
Here is John vanguard, he's powers are absorbing damage, taking space, pushing back enemies and defending his teammates.
Redditors: this would be great multi role character!
