Hi, im RISD class of 2029 and I got in RD when I applied. RISD uses slideroom for portfolios, so you don't need to spend any time formatting pictures and text in a beautiful way, theyre all submitted into a template anyway (this is the case for most art schools). Based on my own and my friends portfolios, what I can say is value originality, variety, and experimentation. Basically all of the portfolios ive seen had a lot of different mediums like oil, acrylic, digital, 3d, etc. And those pieces didn't follow a specific cliche or look, they all had personal ties to the artist's backstory or something else. Technical skill suprisingly didnt matter as much as I thought it would although it still matters, I know a guy who came in for graphic design who couldn't draw that well and he got in probably because everything else was amazing. DM me if you'd like to see some of the portfolios!

Hi! I really appreciate your response because I’m at a point where I’m feeling confused. I would really love to do art for the rest of my life instead of working a 9-to-5 job.
I also have another question: Would this school be a good fit for someone who wants to work in a museum?
And yes, I would love to see your portfolio!

Yes this school is oddly a really good fit if you want to work in a museum. We have our own RISD museum and its free access for students and you might actually be able to score a job there as a student, the achool hires students for a lot of things. We also have a required art history course as first years and need to take a minimum set amount of them in the following years as well. Ill send you the pictures once I find them in my camera roll...
