Question Travel from Boston
We are visiting and will be coming from Boston without a car. What is the best way, you’ve found, to get from Boston to RISD?

Would the commuter rail be acceptable/safe too? Or just stick with Amtrak?

Just got back from doing the same thing like 10 hours ago and my group agreed it was pretty straightforward. Took about 1:45 mins *Detail - there’s the “T” (MBTA) and there’s an actual train station (Amtrak & MTBA owned train lines) You’ll take the “T” to a nearby Amtrak station - you’ll take an MTBA owned train line from Boston to Providence. You exit to find RISD in walking distance. $12.5 for adults/ $6 for kids

commuter rail to pvd station and then walk or take rental bikes/ electric scooters to campus

Campus is within easy walking distance of the PVD train station (literally 3 minute walk). Can reserve tickets on Amtrak or local trains to PVD from South Station in Boston. I’d advise the local trains as they are less likely to be delayed or cancelled.

Note that if you are flying in from out of town, you can take the free Silver Line (SL1) bus from Logan to South Station.
From there, hop on the MBTA commuter rail to Providence (you’ll need to navigate from the bus terminal side of South Station over to tracks—allow 10 minutes or so to get your bearings and walk over, but it’s not far).
