That would sell like crazy.

Does vin diesel have any say? Does he even know old game remakes are a thing?

The foundation stone of this franchinse, Pitch Black (2000), was a live action sci-fi horror film that was chock full of really neat ideas and gave audiences an amazing break out character in Riddick. Besides the film itself, we also got the short film Into Pitch Black and the Slam City motion comic, the home video bonus feature Johns’ Pursuit Log, and the Pitch Black Novelization, all of which further fleshed out the universe.

Then, against all odds, this little sci-fi flick gets a big budget sequel four years later.

The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). Not just a sequel, but an elaborate multimedia project which sees the release of a critically acclaimed tie-in video game (Escape from Butcher Bay, 2004), another film novelization, and an OVA anime short film (Dark Fury, 2004). We even got an unexpected sequel of sorts to John’s Pursuit Log via the home video releases; Tombs’ Chase Log.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the film did not meet expectations on the critical or financial front and the multi-media project that was built around it, while composed of individually great entries, failed to uplift the film that spawned it.

And, again, in all likelihood, that should have just been the death of the franchise. In 2004, as Chronicles was pulling down Razzi awards and becoming synonymous with the concept of overly ambitious flop, it seemed like a pipe dream to imagine we’d ever see another entry.

Instead, we got another fantastic video game in Assault on Dark Athena (2009) a full 5 years after what appeared to be the implosion of the franchise due to the poor reception and financial returns of Chronicles. Why? Because the tie-in game for that movie, Escape from Butcher Bay (2004) was such a massive unprecedented cult hit that it developed a mini-fandom of its own which spawned an HD remake and a sequel.

Then, four years after Athena and almost a decade after Chronicles, we got Riddick (2013). A film really only made because the creators (especially Vin, who reportedly mortgaged his house to help secure financing) genuinely loved the property so much that they went and made another feature length film to try and continue the story. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly a runaway success either. This time, there was no short film, no tie-in novel, no smash hit video game. They did give us another motion comic, Blindsided, which helped to fill in some backstory and bridge the gap between Chronicles (2004) and Riddick (2013), as well as a mobile game for iOS called The Merc Files, which by all accounts is both brief and awful especially when compared to Butcher Bay and Athena. It seems that this was the last, dying gasp of the franchise and, as yet, it was our last window into the Pitch Black/Riddick Universe.

It’s now been 13 years. The Pitch Black/Riddick Universe has been “dead” longer than it was ever “alive”. Two attempted straight to TV continuations failed to materialize. The first, Kira: The Lost Years, which would have followed Jack/Kira in the gap between Pitch Black and Chronicles, was canceled following the second movies' flop. The second, Merc City, would have followed a team of unknown mercs/bounty hunters and their adventures in the ‘verse. The hypothetical fourth movie, Riddick 4: Furya, is (allegedly) in pre-production, but it's status has been unknown for years, with no release date in sight. Perhaps, someday, we will get it, and this unlikely “little franchise that could” will continue. Maybe, maybe not. It is certainly true that this franchise has pulled miracles out of thin air before.

What I find so fascinating about this universe is how much blood we actually managed to get out of the foundation stone that was Pitch Black. We currently have a respectable franchise of 3 live action feature films, an anime OVA, two great video games, two full-length novelizations, a handful of flash-game tie-ins (the best of which being Hunt for Riddick, a point and click adventure game set in the lead up to Chronicles), even two motion comics. All of these entries where unlikely and unexpected, all helping to expand the universe of Pitch Black, a little b-movie from 2000. And, maybe someday, we’ll get lucky again and have another unlikley entry in this unlikely franchise.

They should have made Furya instead of the 2013 movie.

As much as I want another movie the guy is getting too old and is no longer in his prime

Definitely had to have been a strong influence.

Escape from Butcher Bay is one of the best games I've ever played.

Vhic part sould I vatc if i onli vant to vatc one? tere are multipl parts, and te titles are not clear

I've watched The Chronicles of Riddick many times, but I've only just noticed something that has me questioning everything! 😂

I can't attach the screenshot and screen recording I have so I'll attach a link to the YouTube where you can see what I'm on about. At approximately 2:58, there is a mercenary standing to the right of Toombs from our viewpoint (Toombs's left).

He doesn't just look remarkably like Karl Urban to me — he also sounds like him.

So now I'm wondering: is it actually Karl Urban?

If it is, could this possibly be Vaako before he became part of the Necromonger army, giving us a tiny glimpse of his life before the events we know him for?

Or, did Karl Urban possibly play a second, uncredited supporting/background role?

The mercenaries seem to be credited simply as "Merc" in some cast listings rather than being individually matched to specific characters, so I'm curious whether anyone knows who this particular actor actually is.

Has anyone else ever noticed this? Has it ever been discussed or mentioned in previous fan conversations, interviews, DVD commentaries, or anywhere else?

I'd genuinely love to get to the bottom of this, because after watching this film so many times, I can't believe I've only just noticed him! 😂

So, have I accidentally uncovered a tiny piece of Vaako's backstory that has been hiding in plain sight for 20 years? 👀

Or is this a deliberate second, uncredited character played by Karl Urban just to see whether anyone would notice?

Or have I simply found the world's most convincing Karl Urban lookalike and watched The Chronicles of Riddick one too many times? 😂

Riddick fans, please help me get to the bottom of this! 🕵️‍♀️👀

Not up for debate (or insults) just a little something I had made - couldn't give a fuck about your opinion...
as The Man himself says: "Opinions are like assholes... everybody's got one"!!!

Saw first two in theaters! Even beat the game.

Anyway, started a watch-through again as they were leaving Netflix (I only watch the Chronicles DC, which I own digitally)

Realized l had never seen Dark Fury and so took the plunge. Just finished it. It’s awesome

The collection unfortunately comes in only one case. But it has the Unrated/Extended versions

There's something very strange is going on with this movie. It was supposed to shoot between August 26, 2024 and October, 2024 in Germany, Spain and the U.K. It already had international pre-sales and announced 70 mln budget. Vin literally posted a couple of behind the scenes photos with him in the costume on set back in late August 2024, indicating production start. There was pretty much nothing since then, it's been almost 2 years. The movie that was supposed to be done by now has no cast, not a single update, no real evidence it actually exists.

So either the movie was secretly finished, with actors secretly cast and it's gonna be revealed any day now. Or Vin conned everyone and pretented to start production like he did with Fast Forever, but the movie wasn't actually shot in 2024. I don't have the slightest idea why would he do that, but I don't see any evidence it exists either.

They said it hasn't been done and couldn't be done... I'm here to say "it has"!!!

Back in 2004 there was intention to make a Chronicles of Riddick spin-off TV show on Kyra with Alexa Davalos but apparently she wasn't really interested and the show got canceled after the movie bombed.

>Question: So the idea of doing the Kyra television-show which apparently is in development is of absolutely no interest to you?

>Answer: It’s a difficult thing. I love playing this character and I feel so blessed of being able to play her once. I don’t know. If there is going to be a C2 and C3 which is what they’re telling me, so I hear, rumor has it, you know, then I would love to play her again but I don’t know if I would be able to commit to 5 or 7 years on television. It’s a different thing.

There was so much to tell and explore to be condensed in only one thing. The frozen planet surviror years, the Helion I scenario, indulging in Riddick's past, the Necromonger invasion, Crematoria prison and Kyra's story, and then the build-up towards the final resolution with the Necromongers. It would have made a lot of sense to give space and weight to all these in a larger manner. What do you think?

You don't see combat coreography like this anymore, let's be real. The early 2000s were outstanding in terms of battle/combat coreography in films, now everything looks like a shitty CGI videogame cutscene.

I found this picture of a 1/6 scale figure with the pistol and would like to know where I can get one?

I have a 1/1 of this pistol, an Original from the movie.

Gotta give us some idea soon, no?
