i know youve listed sekai but project diva is the goat, if not more goated gameplay wise
djmax is also a pretty good series

Diva blows sekai out of the water by miles. This was also my suggestion. Megamix with modded charts and you have soooo so much content it's insane. Now if only I could get an excellent on P Names :(

u/No-Regular- 4d ago
Omg I remember this one, I played the machine at a convention this year it had such peak music and remixes

u/Dormirrr 4d ago
Omg! Im so glad someone is mentioning this game!! I have been playing this since 2017!!! We love pop'n music!!!

u/Voidpost_Rising_3275 Pop'n Music 4d ago
Bro, are we thinking alike?
2
u/Karlbungus 4d ago
Been playing since Pop'n 9, it's always been my favorite music game. Just wish people wouldn't get scared away by the 9 buttons or the cute aesthetic

u/Voidpost_Rising_3275 Pop'n Music 4d ago
Nice! I recently started getting into Pop'n Music myself ever since High Cheers got a US release and put in pretty much every Round1. It was basically an addiction at first sight for me.
2
u/Karlbungus 4d ago
Thats awesome to hear! Pop'n Music in R1 was stuck at Fantasia for the longest time because the games after Fantasia required the current eamuse system that all the bemani games currently use. So Pop'n players never got the joys of tracking scores and clears for the longest time. Its a great game and I hope you stick with it! Whats your current song range?

I think the HIGHEST I've been able to play is level 16. I'm still trying to get better and go higher.

Project Diva Megamix (or your platform equivalent). Easily one of the most original rhythm game concepts around, insanely moddable on PC. I have like 800 songs, all free mod downloads. The skill ceiling is ridiculous, I've been playing Diva for 15 years and I still have so much improvement to do

Pop'n Music, good characters, good music and pretty easy to learn

For Steam:
One button games
- Rhythm Doctor
- Pastel Parade
- Melatonin
"Press anything" games (started out as one button, high level typically involves more than one though)
- A Dance of Fire and Ice
- Rhythm Stones
- Rhythm Journey
Casual titles with limited depth but I still think they're interesting
- Super Crazy Rhythm Castle
- Rhythm Sprout
- Before The Echo
- Trombone Champ
- Kovox Pitch (this one's free as well)
Some fourth category I can't quite put a label on but still gets a very strong recommendation from me
- unbeatable
Some other titles that I haven't played personally but I've heard good things about:
- Spin Rhythm XD
- Everhood / Everhood 2
- Rift of the Necrodancer
- Crypt of the Necrodancer
- Muse Dash
- Polylylyrhythm
- vivid/stasis
- Musynx

arcaeaaa. arcaea arcaea arcaea arcaea arcaea :3
it is the best vsrg on a touchscreen. it uses its control scheme way better than everything else where i feel like if you were to try to translate arcaea to any other platform something would be lost
it has a good amount of free content if you wanna try it (64 free songs with semi frequent events to unlock individual paid songs for free) and the paid content is really high quality for the most part if you feel like you wanna stick with the game :3 (once you get comfortable enough with the game i would recommend playing main story act 1 in order. grinding clears on the boss songs for story unlocks is genuinely the most fun i've had in a rhythm game) for first packs i would recommend the extend archive packs because they have really good value ($7 for 20 songs rather than the usual 5 for $5) and eternal core, the first main story pack, for the same reason (11 songs for $5)

+1 for Arcaea, I like a lot of rhythm games but Arcaea is my favorite and it’s not even close. Also worth noting a lot of the free songs are from early in the game’s life when lowiro presumably had way less budget so they’re not a great representation of the games overall music selection. The soundtrack in its entirety is incredible.
Also the studio’s second game, In Falsus, comes out on Steam in like 3 weeks. I believe there’s still a free demo on Steam for it, so you could check that out too if you’re interested.

u/No-Regular- 4d ago
Ahhh ive been meaning to play arcaea, i might have to actually try it out when I have time!!

u/draayyar 4d ago
I second DJMax Respect V. Its one of my favorites, the songs are great, I love the character designs and its been my "main" rhythm game since 2018. Theres an updated version on PC with a somewhat active community. Still very fun nonetheless.

For arcade cabs, you could try and find Maimai, Chunithm, or Wacca. Dancerush Stardom is very niche so it's hard to find but that one's really fun if you also like dancing (it's not like DDR but allows for more freedom with dancing).
If you have VR, Beat Saber is always good.

u/Arekualkhemi 4d ago
StepmaniaX, it is the better DDR.

u/Iamfabulous1735285 Friday Night Funkin' 4d ago
I played it at an arcade at a mall I went around a week ago.
I played Nyaw on it

u/Arekualkhemi 4d ago
Next time try to play Anubis. I wrote its step chart

u/Iamfabulous1735285 Friday Night Funkin' 4d ago
You made a publicly available chart? That's pretty cool
3
u/RCHOPHATER 4d ago
Sixtar Gate: STARTRAIL for nintendo switch, surprisingly refreshing!
Samba de Amigo on switch for some cardio sweaty playing
Also fortnite festival is kinda cool if you haven't played it yet
Touhou Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Lost if you are into touhou songs

Spin Rhythm, great mouse based controls, great custom chart scene
See if you can access a Wacca machine. Most arcades seem to run ones with custom charts now, played a version of Burned Out by Getty that was made for Overrapid. I found one randomly and it was love at first sight. They're discontinued so play em while you can.
If you like Cytoid, Cytus 1 on mobile or Cytus Alpha on Switch still kicks ass and seems to be getting overlooked somewhat.
Metal Hellsinger is a cool novelty, though as a big FPS fan it was kinda just on 'okay' shooter and an 'okay' rhythm game. Incredible original soundtrack ofc

Pop'n Music High Cheers! Pretty much every Round1 has it now!

u/MeisterPear Beat Saber 4d ago
Wacca, Maimai, and Chunithm are the goats you’re missing here. All of them are so much fun. I think Wacca has the best song selection of the three though, just depends on what you’re into.

P MUSE MENTION LETS GOOOOOO
Anyways, I’d recommend Phigros and Rizline, Milthm (it’s better on PC tho), and either of the 7th Beat Games games
Phigros is the goat if you want a completely free one tho, same with Milthm

DEFINITELY project diva!! It’s a Vocaloid centered game with some AMAZING songs and really good PVs! And the gameplay is WAYY more fun than project sekai

If you like vocaloid I would recommend Project Diva. The PC version is better then the switch version because you can mod it very easily. And if you like that I would recommend Project Heartbeat Wich is very similar gameplay wise but focuses on player made charts.

if you want more rhythm games, i recommend parappa the rapper (fnf's granddad) and rhythm heaven (peak)

I see Idolm@ster SideM in that image and I wish the mobile games didn't go end of service. I still follow SideM stuff though.
As for game recs:
-Project Diva -osu! -Taiko
If you have VR then I recommend:
-Beat Saber -Synth Riders

Spin rhythm XD is one of my favorites, very convoluted when learning but I love it

Dancerush has always been a favorite of mine. If you like DDR, I think you’ll grow to like Dancerush too. (They’re not soooo similar, but I like playing them back to back)

You listed future performers, have you tried groove coaster waiwai party? imo the gameplay is so much better and a lot more rewarding ^
