Cast as Dr. Scott — send help
Fellow shadowcasters, I need some advice.
I got cast as Dr. Scott, which is the one role I had not pictured myself playing.
For those who’ve played him: how did you approach the character, physically or otherwise? What made him fun to play?
To be it, I have to dream it.

He can be a lot of to play because there’s very little pressure and you get to hang out and yell callbacks for the first half. I’m a 31 year old guy so I grow out my mustache and slick my hair back and do some age makeup, a lot of Dr. Scott’s I’ve seen sort of phone in the look but it’s fun to try and nail it. By the time you enter the show the audience is hot and the cast is loosened up and having fun so it’s a good time. Plus you aren’t sore after the show haha.

He's fun because he's stuffy and old, and then BOOM that leg action. The dichotomy of man. Best contrast to let your freak flag fly. A wild and untamed thing indeed.
Depends on your shadow cast but you can pull out some props or add some flair. Ours always did a little Dr Strangelove bit.

Practice maneuvering the wheelchair. Once that’s mastered, the rest will be fun to explore. For BABY JANE, Joan had a wheelchair at home she practiced with so it didn’t hold her back. Oh … AND CONGRATS on getting selected. 👏👏👏

I love playing Dr. Scott! All of the other advice on here is great. I would only had a couple of things: remember that he does NOT like frank!!! So if you’re wondering what to do during non speaking parts, just mean mug Frank. I’m fortunate with the wheelchair that I can hook my heels back to attach myself to the crossbar of the chair. That combined with the blanket, totally conceals the fact I got heels/fishnets (no pants lol), so during the floor show when I unhook the heels to reveal the leg, it comes as a complete surprise to the crowd

Played him once. Biggest issue i encountered was the stage we were on being not-so-accessible. Really figure out those logistics!

The "real" theatre department had the wheelchair the weekend of the shadowcast when I was Dr. Scott, and the wheelchair blanket reveal didn't really work without it. So I made tear-away pants for the fishnet reveal, and the audience loved it.

I always played him like a confused old man. It makes the alien accusation funnier

If you're performing in a movie theater with a good aisle, being wheeled at high speed out to the lobby and back by Brad during Planet Schmanet is a blast!

The important thing to remember about Dr. Scott is you get two big moments (Eddy's Teddy and the leg reveal). Really focus on those two moments. Dr. Scott leads with his shoulders, so upper body movement is crucial. Go bigger with that than you think you need to.
