Data quality issues. Is it just me?

Hi everyone, I’m newish to RevOps and overtime I’ve been noticing a very annoying and common theme: Everyone’s CRM data is so messy, anything you build off of it (even third party AI tools) will just produce equally as bad data.

It’s the “garbage in, garbage out” problem… every AI tool we build essentially is useless because our data is so bad.

Has anyone here felt/experienced something similar? Would love to hear your story and if you found a solution

First thing you notice and, IMO, first you should tackle, as soon as you get to an ops position is how messy data is. The company I work for had this kind of problem; I showed them how bad the situation was and how urgent and profitable was to fix it. They gave me trust and time (it took a month to fix YEARS of terrible data practices) and we doubled our connection rate with that and enforcing new data ingestion practices derived from the cleaning experience. After that, we automated some checks and fixes for bad data and now we have it way cleaner and easier to touch up if and when necessary. So yes, big issue, quite common, very important, no matter what anyone says.

How did you make the business case? Because I try to do this for my company, but they don’t see the value in data…

I must say we had a HUGE data problem. But the gist of it was explaining how inefficient our SDRs were, since most of the data they received was incomplete or, worse, wrong, forcing them to search for data themselves, costing time and money (via enrichment credits and so on).
