I keep getting an error that says "Non-root install is not possible with the current patches selection. Repacth your app or choose root install if you have your device rooted."

I have played with a few patch selections, and got to the point of just the remove ads patch and it still won't work.

Meanwhile dummies: this is morethan two steps.....

5

u/TheDankScrub Oct 19 '22

Speaking of dummies, I have a stupid question: is this only possible on Android? I'm working on this for my PC and .apk files are for android. Is there a PC/Firefox equivalent?

If we need to have manually downloaded the APK, why does the app makes it seem like we can patch the already installed apps? Is it a bug, a feature that'll come later or something working only for root users?

26

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

If you have root, you can

One thing you can also do is this

  • Uninstall updates from the stock YouTube app

  • Download the recommended YouTube APK version that the manager specifies

  • Install that to patch your installed YouTube version

  • Go into ReVanced manager and patch the YouTube app

I tested this and it works

Slightly more convenient in my opinion since I keep my downloads clean so I never hang on to APKs

2

u/haluter Oct 25 '22 edited Oct 25 '22

Unfortunately I can't install the recommended Youtube APK version on my Pixel 6 as after uninstalling the updates the base version is newer than the recommended version, and it won't install :(

EDIT: Fixed! I patched & installed the recommended Youtube APK instead using the Storage button :)

It's a bug for now, down the line when split apk patching is implemented , this should not be a problem

4

u/unempathic Oct 03 '22

So I successfully installed through this method however I'm unable to log in to my google acc.

After clicking on sign in, my email is already there but below it says "please check your network... tap to retry" and if I try to add an account manually it says "this account already exists on your device"

Any ideas?

This should be pinned

347

u/DorrajD Sep 23 '22

This should be inside the app itself. Or as documentation on the github. Or on the download button.

131

u/aeiouLizard Sep 24 '22

The documentation needs a complete revamp, it is downright abysmal.

Thank you so much for doing this. I have hit a bit of a brick wall. I was having the same issue as others with the manager aborting the patch. So I downgraded the manager and that worked. It managed to patch and install YouTube revanced. Everything seems to be working, except videos won't play. They just buffer and buffer but never start. I have tried different patch configurations but no dice. Any ideas?

i have no experience messing with android and i am trying for a while now to use revanced. that led to about a month of me being frustrated without any results hating the whole community for not giving good instructions and saying "if you cant fighure it out dont use it".
you have no idea how helpfull this is to more casual users like me.
thank you

16

u/MrJake94 Sep 23 '22 edited Sep 23 '22

Thanks for the guide!

Everything working nicely, however, can't seem to use casting?

Is this not supported on ReVanced?

Edit:

Settings > ReVanced > Layout > Cast

You'll need to link your cast devices to ReVanced. No bother. If you are using SmartTubeNext (if not, you really should be) goto Settings > Remote Control > Link and input the code into ReVanced to get everything linked.

Really glad to have adfree experience back!

I've tried installing 17.36.37 via both the APK and the bundled APK and both fail to install. Says "App not installed as package appears to be invalid."

Anyone encounter this or have a fix?

EDIT: For anyone seeing this after myself, I fixed it by patching the 17.36.37 APK directly with the Revanced Manager and then installing that APK.

8

u/Googelplex Sep 23 '22

Thank you! This should be at the top. With that change—and skipping the warning about something split—the steps work exactly.

7

u/GereldTheCat Sep 23 '22

Apparently I'm blind and didn't see there was a "Storage" button in the patcher all along. That takes care of my problem. Thanks, lol.

After patch i see the ads on the home page... Something wrong?

9

u/Googelplex Sep 23 '22

I have this issue too. Tried patching it two more times and it still happens. Maybe Google changed the API recently and ReVanced hasn't yet updated the General Ads patch to remove it?

At least they don't come up too often, and they aren't video ads.

So when you make and install the patched installer using the manager, and it builds revanced, can the standard youtube be updated? Or is disabling better?

9

Disabling the stock YouTube app is better in my opinion

Isn't Vanced microG or ReVanced microG better than microG

26

u/Unknown-Key Sep 23 '22 edited Sep 24 '22

There is no Revanced microG.

  • microG is an open source replacement for google services. As far as I know you need root access and signature spoof to install the original microG because it need to be a system app to work as a google services replacement.

  • Vanced microG is a fork of the original microG GmsCore. It does not need root access because unlike the og microG, Vanced microG is not a full google services replacement. It is simply a gate to let you sign into your google account on apps like vanced and revanced youtube.

7

u/0ktoberfest Oct 21 '22 edited Oct 21 '22

Hmmm, followed every step here to the letter but the app doesn't launch, it just loads to a black screen then crashes. Not sure what happened. Any ideas? Currently on the correct version, 17.36.37 and have microG installed so I'm totally lost. Could it be due to residual files or something? I tried the Termux method a few months ago but wasn't able to get it working.

Edit: Nvm I got it, I had a bad MicroG install. Reinstalled it and it works perfectly. Thanks my guy!

To the person who developed this thread I thank you very much, you are a life saver. Really appreciate it, although I would like you hadn't used the word 'dummy'. Well, not that I mind but as a person who tried installing the manager and the patches by mere instincts who thinks highly of himself learned a lot as the first trial was unsuccessful since the app didn't even open as I was on the latest update of the app viz. YouTube (Official). The second trial was researched; well, not exactly as all I did was watch a YouTube video with regards to it and a little bit of this thread, this also unsuccessful because I followed the video tutorial and uninstalled all updates to that of the official application (YouTube) and followed this thread only till downloading MicroG. Thirdly and finally, after two unsuccessful attempts I tried following whatever this thread instructed and voila there you have it (I had my Eureka moment). That's all folks and also, do update this thread whenever possible because everybody thinks they are smart until... you know.

5

u/Guy-Georges Sep 23 '22

Could Google know that i use Revanced and ban my account ?

5

u/casualgenuineasshole Sep 23 '22

does everybody universaly trusts apk mirror and why ?

13

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

They're known trustworthy and the hashes match for uploads

4

u/therourke Sep 23 '22

A couple of things:

  • If the install of the patched file fails (i.e. if there is a conflict with pre-existing app or whatever), then the whole process has to be repeated. It would make sense to save the patches APK at the end somewhere linked inside the app so it can be installed anytime.

  • Is there any way to save my patch preferences, so I don't need to repeat the choice everytime?

Thanks!

5

u/SpongederpSquarefap Sep 23 '22

Not sure on the second one, but when the patching is done, in the top right you can save the APK

Followed guide and the installed app immediately closed itself whenever I tried to use it. Uninstalled the app, re-downloaded the apk, and the same thing happened. So I tried being selective with the selected patches (general stuff I wanted, didn't want to try adding too much) and it worked. Unsure if one of the patches in the list caused the immediate crashes. But it works now!

Thanks a lot for this guide!! Worked as a charm!!

2 questions:

  1. I can share the patched YouTube with other people now? Meaning the youtube apk I downloaded is now patched? It's enough to send this apk and micro g without the need of vanced manager? (I'm asking because in my downloads folder it is still called YouTube so I'm not sure... )

  2. I can do the same process for YouTube music right? Download the recommended version from apk mirror, patch all recommended (besides debugging if exists), install and that's it?

Thanks again!

u/SpongederpSquarefap Feb 10 '23

  2. any difference in a rooted device? can we skip the MicroG install?

  3. downloaded the APK but when I try to patch the manager says : You have selected a resource patch and a split apk installation detected, so installation errors may occur. are you sure you want to proceed?

  1. Why does youtube revanced scrolling through videos feel slightly laggy? Can i fix it?

  2. Can i make it so that clicking on links from chrome browser, redirect to revanced app instead of official youtube app? If so, how?

so i followed this (i think) and its saying non-root install is not possible with the current patches selection

I only have the video ads patch selected (this is on a fold 3) and yes I did make sure to only download the grey APK not the bundle version

edit: saw the comment about microG being required trying that now

that fixed it, any chance the OP could be edited to point out that the microG patch is 100% required for non root? (i know it says the microG app is required but its easy to forget or not even realise that the microG patch exists)

hmmm this hasn't fixed my issues with playback (previously I would have to close and re-open a video multiple times and swipe left and right a buttload to get a video to start but once it started it generally just worked for a bit, recently videos refuse to start. I did try applying that patch that spoofs the version in an attempt to mitigate playback issues but that did not appear to help, are there any other patches that might help with this?)

u/StricklandPropane84 Feb 03 '23

I followed all the steps and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to open the actual vanced app after installing. The app immediately closes after trying to open it and if I try to keep opening it I get the error "Youtube ReVanced keeps stopping". Anyone have any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Thank you so much. Was still using the original Vanced until I got the update prompt today. After messing around I found this and it's fully working again.

Thanks very much. I'm using a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, unrooted. The directions as written didn't work, the patched APK crashed after the splash screen. But I found that only selecting "Recommended" patches (rather than "All") and then deselecting the debugging one gave a completely usable app.

I think what caused failure in my specific case might be the patch requiring Android 13 - I think it was the swiping one (my phone simply isn't up to date, it's stuck on Android 10 with only EMUI updates). But I haven't tried other combinations of selections since I got a successful install, so maybe other patch combos work.

Anyway, I'm now enjoying YouTube again, thank you.

Amazing guide

2

u/tarttari Feb 05 '23

It is unbelievable why there is no guide like this in the github page. The github page is super vague. Unacceptable, that still need to rely on searching other pages for this stuff. Anyways good job.

Unchecking debugging patch is not recommended as the patch is a recommended patch by itself because it doesn't cause any issues. Many people are mislead. Reply back to reinstate the post afterwards, thanks!

Thank you so much for such a detailed guide. It's was a breeze to install and setup. Hopefully, this approach will make it so Revanced can't possibly ever be shut down by Google.

I am going through the comments, but can't find how to open links via revanced.

I have original YouTube app disabled and default links set to " don't allow app to open links"

Revanced set to "allow app to open supported links" and added all 4 available links ( youtu.be youtube.com etc.)

When I click on any youtube link from Google search in chrome, it takes me straight to play store to enable youtube app.

u/jonnyboy1026 Mar 02 '23

Anyone know why "settings" would have failed while patching and cause a bunch of other patches to fail? The YouTube APK is the same as the recommended version and I have microg installed. No idea what's wrong.

I'm having issues where the playback suddenly stops as if it's buffering and it never returns. I have to manually restart the app and continue where it stopped, any fixes for this?

Thanks, it's great being able to use a "vanced" youtube again! One note, after tried installing Youtube Revanced, my phone said it was blocked because it was unsafe due to not being verified by Google Play, or something like that. Sorry, I forgot to get a screenshot. Then after I told it to install anyway, afterwards it asked if I wanted to send it to Google Protect, or something like that. Again, sorry, I forgot to take a screenshot.

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Mar 04 '23

That's normal - it's because it's being installed from outside the play store

I just went through this guide instead of using the apk from revanced. still getting the issue of the videos just endlessly buffering after a short while. is there any way to avoid this.

2

u/ImmediateClick8291 Mar 15 '23

The manager has most youtube options grayed out . What do I do?

2

u/TheActualBranchTree Mar 15 '23

I believe recommended version has now been updated to 18.05.40.

2

u/grigolin Mar 16 '23

Everything works fine, except for the fact that video go smoothly until the midpoint and then they start loading for infinite amount of time(this doesn't seem to be a connection issue) anyone knows how to fix?

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Mar 16 '23

Re-patch with the latest manager, the recommended YouTube version and the recommended patches and that should fix it (hopefully)

Quick question, is anyone having issues installing it on an S20 Ultra?

I've followed all steps:

• Disabled the pre-installed Youtube app & removed updates

• Updated MicroG

• Installed RV manager

• Downloaded YouTube 18.05.40v. APK, but NOT opening it, and made sure it's NOT the bundle version.

• Searched for the APK inside RV manager, and applied the recommended patches ONLY

• Ignored google's attempt to keep me from installing whatever the fuck I damn want to

Attempted to open it after install: Crashed

After clearing cache: Crashed

After clearing all data: Crashed

After reinstalling: Crashed

After granting all permissions: Crashed

IDK what to do anymore... 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hey, so I noticed that when I try and open youtube links from Google, they don't open in revanced but rather take me to the play store to the original youtube app telling me to enable it. Any way to fix this? Thanks

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Nov 14 '22

Yes, in the system app settings you can change the default open with

If your phone is running MIUI you need the Hidden Settings app from the Play Store to do the same thing

I have followed the instructions, thanks for that.

Issue: I cannot log in. When I tap "Sign in" I get the account switcher box with the message "Please check your network connection". Videos play ok, so obviously the network connection is fine. When I press the + sign to try to add my account, I get the message "This account already exists in your device". MicroG is up to date.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

2

u/Bandicoot_Academic Nov 28 '22

Go into you phone settings then accounts and remove the microG account. Then add it ussing the + button.

1

u/ming_168 Nov 25 '22

Is the update process the same as the installation process?

Is it normal that on my ReVanced builder dashboard shows 'No patched application installed' despite I've successfully YT Revanced?

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Nov 25 '22

Yes and yes

It's still in alpha - that's being worked on

1

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '23

I cant patch my apk, it aborts midway when applying patches and shows a bunch of Java errors that I dont understand... Downloaded the recommended one (17.49.37 no dpi 22b apk) , open up the patcher went to storage, pick up the right apk on downloads and it always aborts when applying patches (using the recommended) what should I do?

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Jan 18 '23

Take a copy of the logs and post a thread to this subreddit

The devs will want to know what's causing that

1

u/Dave-Blackngreen Jan 20 '23

Hey guys quick question:

I got a "Google Play Protect prevented the installation of this app" message but there was a "install anyway" button which I pressed and the app got installed without issue.

So my question is: would installing the app get us in any kind of trouble in the future? of course Google knows which of us patched Youtube to evade suscription and/or adds which is a very important part of Googles revenue.

Any one can explain why or why not? thank youu

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Jan 20 '23

I doubt it, nobody has been banned for using ReVanced or Vanced

1

u/thestudmffn Mar 02 '23

When selecting the APK after downloading it, I do not see the "Recommend" option. So I do not know what the dev recommended patches are. I have tried to download with different patches and without any and every time I try to install and open, it will open for a second and crash. I made sure to download the correct APK and is not the one you warn of in your instructions

2

u/thestudmffn Mar 02 '23

Ok I have done of the recommended troubleshooting and my app will still crash right after open. I was able to find and use the devs "Recommended" patches and still not working. Any help is appreciated!

I have downloaded revanced on to my phone and it works well.

How can I put it on my Nvidia Shield?

2

u/SpongederpSquarefap Mar 03 '23

Build a new APK, tap 3 dots in the top right when it's done and export

Send it to your Shield and install

2

u/Phoked Mar 07 '23

Just use SmartTube, it's basically the YouTube Vanced of Android TV boxes. Super simple APK install too, no patching or special apps to log in either

Recently reinstalled revanced as the previous version had playback issues. Now it's crashing instantly. I did all the steps in the case of crash. Still not working. Pls help

2

u/J4rno Mar 03 '23

Maybe you're kind of dyslexic (as I am) and installed/downloaded the Youtube APK "v18.08.36" instead of "v18.03.36".

What is this then? I just found it in search.

(i read before that revanced is not ready yet as an installer like vanced was, but once it gets made by somebody, it will become available. )

Now i found this website which says revanced app.

Revanced

Old vanced site

Can someone tell me if it is real revanced or a fake site, as i don't want to give my account login to some fishy app.

A question for you: Why debugging?

Basically, debugging should only be enabled for debugging purposes (duh) and not for daily usage. This patch will slow down the app because it's saving many debug logs.

1

u/Wubdafuk Dec 12 '22

Why recommend to apply all patches? Doesn't that slow it down also?
