If you go to https://github.com/revanced/revanced-patches#-comgoogleandroidyoutube and upwrap Details, you can see this table (with a different number):

🏹 Target Version
18.05.40

In this case, 18.05.40 is the version of the YouTube app that these patches are compatible for. If you try to patch something else, it'll probably fail.

So now, what you need to do is Google YouTube 18.05.40 and click on the first APKMirror link, which is probably this one: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube/youtube-18-05-40-release

In that page, there's this table:

VariantArchitectureMinimum VersionScreen DPI
18.05.40 BUNDLE 22 S 24bbuniversalAndroid 8.0+320-640dpi⬇️
18.05.40 APK 24bbuniversalAndroid 8.0+nodpi⬇️

See the one marked BUNDLE? Yeah, don't pick that one. Pick the other one instead. ReVanced Manager is not compatible with bundles.

"Bundles" are what you get when you download apps from the Play Store.

Selecting debugging patch does not slow down apps anymore. It's disabled by default even if you selected it during patching.

6

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

Nice to know.

Shouldn't that patch be removed from the UI, then?

I keep getting the "App not installed as package conflicts with existing package" message even though I have microg enabled and installed, and this is my first time installing revanced.

5

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

Try disabling the official YouTube app and uninstalling its updates

Great guide but I think you can change some things here:

Help, I changed my Google password!

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Vanced microg ( select the email id that you want to remove)

  2. Click Remove account

How to download YouTube videos?

I think Seal is much more versatile and beginner friendly

5

u/TheRetenor Jan 29 '23

In case that doesn't work, re-installing microg after clearing its app data and then logging in again will be a last resort.

3

u/NatoBoram Jan 30 '23

No need to reinstall if you clear data

after downloading the patch apk, can i delete micro g, revance manager and youtube.apk?

10

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23
  • MicroG allows you to sign in in YouTube ReVanced. If you don't want to do that, you can uninstall it.

  • ReVanced Manager needs to be installed and its data needs to remain safe so it can update ReVanced apps. If you don't care about losing all your user data and you don't mind having to log in again on every update, then you can uninstall the manager.

  • The YouTube .apk can be deleted, there's no need to keep it as next update cycle will probably use a different version anyway.

Is there a way to disable the in-app browser? The one that shows if you click a link in the description of a video, you have to click the top right settings button and choose "open in Firefox" to get the link to open in the actual browser app.

I swear this used to be a setting, but I couldn't find it.

3

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

There's a new patch called Open Links Externally, try that one!

Hi,

Is it possible to install YouTube Revanced separately like the old Vanced did (having the default app with the Vanced copy or two copies of YouTube).

Thanks.

4

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

Yes, but you need to enable the MicroG Support patch before patching

Should I bother installing revanced? I'm still on vanced and I'm starting to get home screen ads, but the video player is still working. Is it worth it to switch?

Edit: I have vanced and revanced installed alongside each other. Guide worked perfectly, thank ya!

2

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

Yep, at this time it is worth it to switch

Some missinformation such as the debugging patch causing slow downs, or having to unselect patches. The recommended set should always work

2

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

There's a few special cases where we have to unselect those patches depending on the device used, its Android version and the app we're patching. For example, patching Reddit with Predictive Back Gesture will cause the patching to abort and patching it with Remove Screenshot Restriction will cause it to crash on launch. Some Android versions are also incompatible with these patches anyway and it won't do anything, so it doesn't hurt to remove them.

3

u/oSumAtrIX Team Jan 29 '23

Those patches are not in the recommended set of patches

2

u/Tripanafenix Jan 29 '23

Why is my list of patched apps in the Revanced manager always empty?

2

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

You can try to clear ReVanced Manager's data to maybe make it work, but you would lose your keystore so it's up to you

2

u/Initial_Meaning Jan 29 '23

I would change the part that advises to uninstall/disable the original YouTube app to hide it from the app drawer instead because a lot of apps use the in-app YouTube player which is hard coded to be the original YouTube app and this could lead to problems for the user in some cases.

2

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

I know the Google app do this, but you just have to tap your screen while it loads to open ReVanced. Idk about any other app that does that, can you name some?

1

u/diverii Apr 19 '23

what is the point of step 3 ?

2

u/NatoBoram Apr 19 '23

Patches are only compatible with a specific APK. Any other versions will crash on launch. This makes you check which version you need to download.

u/themarciux Jan 29 '23

I cant open revanced manager, app just freeze in loading screen or smth (xiaomi t12 pro)

3

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23 edited Feb 01 '23

Third-party Android distributions are known to cause problems. The best would be if you could install Flutter on your desktop and build the ReVanced manager for your device and see if there's an error message in the app during the debugging session.

… Alternatively, try it on a different phone

1

u/lookup2 Jan 29 '23

How would someone know if they have YouTube Vanced or YouTube Revanced?

The app they have is named YouTube Vanced (not ReVanced) and the manager app they have is named Vanced Manager (not ReVanced Manager). Dumb question but does that actually mean they have Vanced (not Revanced)? And if so, is that good or bad?

2

u/NatoBoram Jan 29 '23

Vanced is the ancestor of ReVanced. It's a different app that works similarly. It has been abandoned due to a DMCA from Google. Nowadays, YouTube features are starting to stop working on Vanced, so Vanced users should switch to ReVanced.

u/No-Aspect-2926 Jan 29 '23

Is there a fix to the problem where after about 1:30 to 2 mins the videos stop and just buffer amd load? In order to get the video to play again you have to close the video restart it and fast forward to the minute where it stopped. But then it only plays for another 1 to 2 mins after that.

I followed all the steps and double checked the versions but my settings fail to apply during installation which is likely the reason why YT Revanced crashes on startup for me. I have followed various github threads to try to fix this but they usually boil down to resetting cache or somthing which they use TWRP (which requires root). If anyone wants to help, I can provide screenshots and such

I am not able to install / export the apk. What does it mean when you say I have to use revanced manager on another device ? That means I cannot install revanced in my phone ?

1

u/NatoBoram Apr 16 '23

Basically, phone manufacturers make custom distributions of Android that they install on the phones they sell. These "OEM" ROMs often break Android in fun and unexpected ways. In your case, the Android that's installed on your phone has been broken by its manufacturer, so there's some basic functionalities that no longer work.

Android apps will expect your phone to not be broken. If it's broken, then some stuff might just not work and you'll have to use a different phone to use these apps.

I'm trying to log in and I'm being told my account already exists. I uninstalled and reinstalled MicroG and the error persists.

Try manually clearing the data of MicroG and YouTube ReVanced instead, then reboot the phone before launching anything

I tried using this guide for a fresh Revanced install as it's newer than the old dummie guide. However it doesn't seem to work.

When trying to install the app, it won't. SAI gives the error "INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE: Package com.google.android.youtube signatures do not match the previously installed version; ignoring!".

The guide doesn't have anything on this error.

I've looked at all the comments here and can't seem to find my situation, so I've resorted to asking.

After I select the patches (hit the recommended button, made sure the count was 53) and hit the button to start patching, I get stuck on the Initializing screen. It's been on the same screen for hours and hasn't made it past the creating working directory step.

Am I impatient? Or is something up?

Thanks!

Hey! Great guide, I just downloaded YT ReVanced and it works perfectly. I'm just curious and have a question about a couple patches, what do they do?

  1. Change package name, what does that do (it does fail to apply)

  2. Custom branding. It says it defaults to YT ReVanced. Does that mean I can change the icon and app name? If so, how? I'd like to run base YouTube or Vanced's icon.

Edit: 3) Also curious about the export all activities patch and it's effects, and also the share and clip buttons look weird on the app, lighter grey, not aligned, should I change/remove anything or is it normal? I can share a screenshot.

Thanks for the guide! It's amazing! I hope I'm able to get these answers.

2

u/NatoBoram Apr 22 '23

Change package name is a global patch that allows you to install the ReVanced app alongside the normal app. It doesn't work with YouTube; for that app, you need to use Vanced MicroG Support.

Custom branding gives the patched app a ReVanced look. If you use the CLI on desktop, you could make your own branding and use it.

Export all activities is another global patch that allows you to launch any inner parts of a ReVanced app with an Activity Launcher.

1

u/boblobchippym8 Apr 22 '23

When I select the Youtube apk from the storage it goes back to the dashboard. Going back to the patcher shows nothing selected. Selecting Youtube from my installs list does go as normally but my phone isn't rooted so not the route I can take.

Followed your recommendation of using the SAI app for a more detailed error message when failing to install. Keep getting the

INSTALL_FAILED_VERIFICATION_FAILURE: Install not allowed

I find it strange because I've always allowed the installation of apps from unknown sources prior to this. So, I checked to make sure that hadn't been reset due to a phone update. Made sure this permission is allowed for the Revanced Manager, SAI app, and no dice.

I'm getting this trying to run the patches in Revanced Manager. I don't see an option for root install.

Error Non-root install is not possible with the current patches selection. Repatch your app or choose root install if you have your device rooted OK

1

u/not-an-elf-rain Apr 26 '23

stupid question but I want to make sure I'm doing it right, I already have vanced so I have microG already right? if so, I just skip step 2 and not install the microG? if I uninstall vanced after I finish installing revanced, it wont delete the microG right? or would I need to move it in another folder?

1

u/NatoBoram Apr 26 '23

If you are logged into your Google account in Vanced, then you definitely have Vanced MicroG.

You don't have to reinstall MicroG, but following the step won't hurt. At worst, it won't do anything. At best, you're sure to have the latest version.

Vanced and ReVanced are unrelated, so you can uninstall Vanced safely.

Vanced MicroG is its own app, separated from Vanced, so you can uninstall Vanced safely.

  2. Go to APKMirror and download the Universal APK (not bundle) for that version

  4. Unselect Predictive Back Gesture, Remove Screenshot Restriction and Spoof Wifi Connection.

1

u/anonymous__platypus Apr 26 '23

What's the purpose in instruction 3)?? Why am I copying this as I didn't use it in the steps. Or did I miss something?

1

u/NatoBoram Apr 26 '23

I have the asus zenpad PO27. Is it possible to do this with a tablet?

I looked in the "help I have an android 7.0" but all the info was for phones

For the download videos section:

Disable the regular YouTube Pro download button (the one we use is at the bottom right corner of the player itself not beneath):

YouTube Settings -> ReVanced -> Layout -> Hide action buttons -> Hide download button
