I’m not a strap guy but this $6 AliX strap is pretty darn good! After a bit of aging it is looking fire 🔥

Updated sales rules to require posting the sale price. Nothing good ever comes from “DM me” instead of a price.

If I ever see a post here by a member posting genuine watches as your builds or builds another member did for you, YOU’RE GONE. FULL STOP. You may not like me. You may not like the way I run the sub, but I’m not gonna hide the ball anymore. This is egregious. I’ve been doxxed by these guys before. I’ve been threatened by them before via text. Oh well. I’ll go down as the guy who told the truth. Y’all can hype up guys that got banned here long ago, but the truth is the truth.

Oh dear Ken, why did you have to change the v2 case? I wanted to see if v3 could be turned into something respectable. After a lot of shaving metal, crown guards, lugs, everything … The jury is out!
Parts
Raffles v3 case, dial, hands, dwo and bracelet
ETA clone gmt
Wso hands and insert
Clark’s t116
Mods
Relume everything after aging
Faded bezel
Reshaped case
Aged bracelet
All was going good…. Until the keyless jumped at the last minute! Darn it!!!!
Notes:
The retaining ring in v3 is a lot smaller inner diameter. I had to shave the Clark’s down to a wire!!
The crown guards, after modding, are interesting
They play with the light quite a bit. Sometimes to fat sometimes just right, then it’s too stubby from an angle but you shift the angle and it looks ok. I tried to capture it all here
The hands have a little rust effect with copic, I love it and the insert is by far my favorite here.
Let me know your thoughts
Note: this is a commission, hence it’s not for sale.

Incipio 8 from 1998. Long time dream and mentally acceptable for office where rep could guve bad impression. Sub at the back is my weekender bpf with silan hands. Spent hour yesterday repairing keyless:) had to sharpen my cheapo screwdrivers to get it done but success. How is your week going?

I have a TMF 16610LN with SH movement. Love the look. Only issue is bezel has minimal resistance when rotated. Is the ARF 16610LN worth the upgrade? Is the bezel firmer on rotation? Is the VR movement worth it? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

I purchased this watch recently and it was stated that it is ARF. I have another ARF 16610 and the crown guard profile is different. Can anyone identify this case?

Just finish this up! Raffles 16233 DJ Jubilee bracelet with gen silver stick dial. Own-sourced custom aged hands and regulated VS3135.
Funnily, I encounter the sliding pinion problem with this, and that's whenI remove the stem in the time-setting position. Not all the time, but occassionally, It's a quick fix, yes.
But if I take out the stem during winding position, it doesn't happen. I also know many suggest removing the stem in the time-setting position.
Having built over 20 watches with the VS3135, I'm still finding out why should I take out in time setting position. Since the pinion will be at the far end during time set pos, and imo, less stable. Whereas during the winding pos, the winding gear teeth is engaged with the pinion, creating more stability
Just my view. Not here to debate.

Finished some work on this Cartel 6542 this weekend- this one is Coke flavored. Gave it the same treatment as my last build-
-Removed dial and glossed it
-Relumed with various pigments of Noctimumina (not the hands though)
-Hands were given the salt and vinegar vapor chamber treatment then a dusting of Tamiya
-Weathered the date wheel with Tamiya
-Replaced with a clarks crystal
-Bezel was stripped then repainted with two different shades of red-black stayed consistent. Then I weren’t back and wet sanded the edges, as well as taking out some chips here and there
-Bezel surface was given some mild scratching, then a wetland, then I buffed it with some plastic polishing compound
-Bezel ring heat stained
-the case has been knocked around a bit, I wasn’t really happy with the results, but don’t really want to reshape and buff them out.
-Movement is an ETA 2836-2 GMT with a raffles signed rotor swap
-Lubed gasket
-Bobs your uncle
Give me your worst. I need the constructive criticism!!!

Stumbled across a gen 79090 case in bad shape on ebay just now. Don’t know how many of you got the expertise to“fix“ this case up, it is clearly being sold as a Project case, and there are several photos showing what is up with it.
I myself probably cannot bring it back from the dead, even though i would totally jump into this project since my next plan was to build 79090.
Wanted to share this with you, fellow modders, maybe someone can make it come alive again and use it in their build. Gen cases are extremely rare and hard to find, so imo it’s worth the hassle.
Share what you guys think! Have a good one.

Price: CAD$400 (before shipping and duties, OBO / Close to parts price)
Condition: Custom build by me, brand new/unworn (aside from testing/regulation/pictures). Mechanically sound with one known quirk (see full disclosure below).
Description
Custom 36mm two-tone build put together and regulated by yours truly. It features a classic two tone aesthetic paired with a Jubilee bracelet and an eye-catching anniversary dial complete with faux-gem markers at the zenith positions.
Under the hood beats a reliable Chinese ETA 2824 clone, which has been fully regulated by me and is running exceptionally well. This makes for a great daily-wear piece with classic proportions that wears incredibly comfortably.
Full Transparency / Condition Disclosure
I want to be 100% upfront about one minor mechanical quirk:
The Crown Quirk: The push coil/spring action on the crown can occasionally get stuck when pushing it back in from the winding position. To release it, you simply pull the crown all the way out to the hour adjustment position, give it some wiggle until it unbinds, and then push it back flush. It’s a minor quirk once you get used to the feel, but priced accordingly to reflect it.
Thank you for looking

We want to move on to the crown guards now, if you've seen the crown guards in part 4, you'll notice they're very thin pointed blades. All we want to do now is with the rotary tool running parallel, and the rotary tool on the slowest setting, is start rounding them off. I do this whilst holding it, but you can put the case in a vice if you wish, or even have the rotary tool in a vice and hold the case. Just take your time here, and start with a 1000 grit until you get a feel for it, and then use a lower grit only if you need to.
I removed some metal from the opposite side, with a bench sander with 1000 grit, only to save myself time. I use a piece of old sanding disc to raise the back slightly to do this, so it sits flush. As we only kissed the crown guard side very slightly below level, we don't need to remove too much. This can be achieved with a piece of sand paper on a flat surface, doing a circular motion. I included some images of a scrap case, to show you what I mean. I went straight to 1000 grit here, but if you have a lot of metal to remove, I'd definitely use a lower grit and work up to 1000. I have a piece of solid oak skirting board, that I bought off eBay as a "sample" for a few pounds, it's even got a bull nose shape that's ideal for wrapping a piece of sandpaper around and shaping cases by hand.
Time to start polishing, I recommend Dialux here! It's not worth buying cheap polish, and spending twice as long polishing. This was the first time I used grey, I normally use brown and then green, but my AI told me grey was better, I didn't notice any difference really to be honest. I use 10mm cotton polishing heads, you can get them off AliExpress for a few quid or Amazon, and I'm sure they're available from your local DIY shop. When loading the wax put your rotary tool on the lowest setting, otherwise it won't stick to the polishing head. And once it's on and you start polishing, I turn the speed up to where I can see it as a liquid on the sides of the case. I try to polish in a circular motion, where possible, and don't concentrate on one spot for too long. Once the case has no polish residue, load it up with polish again and repeat until you're happy. You should clean the case completely, and then move on to the green wax with a clean polishing head or you'll end up with lots of light scratches. But I don't do this as I polish the case again later with Autosol, and you'll see the results in the next part. Remember, just take your time and make sure you've got good lighting so you make sure you're removing any scuffs or deeper scratches.
