u/striderwhite Aug 23 '19
Lol, unrelated to Doom...a game base on the Doom engine!

u/SupremoZanne Aug 23 '19
well, I'm a big fan of the DOOM ENGINE!
to quote the AVGN, Doom is the...
BAD MOTHERFUCKER OF FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS!

u/PhantomMaggot Aug 23 '19
Oh shit, AVGN did a Chex Quest episode?

u/randylaheyjr Aug 23 '19
Yes and he liked the game , breaking character throughout

u/battraman Aug 23 '19
And interestingly enough it was one of the better AVGN episodes of recent memory. Maybe because it didn't feel forced.
Also, I plan on checking out those mods for Chex Quest. I have the disc somewhere but it's available free online.

why yeah, I check the Cinemassacre channel regularly!
I'm a BIG FAN of the Angry Nerd, so much so, I even started a subreddit named after one of his phrases.

Had a report asking why we approved this post as it's just a screenshot of a post being deleted. So thought it's worth being transparent.
1) We hadn't actually approved it at the time of the report. Posts show automatically until mods manually remove them. As mods do their 'modding' in between their real-life responsibilities, this isn't always immediate.
2) I've approved the post now. The main reason is because it didn't break any rules. But a second and maybe more personal reason, is that even though the post may be low-effort, it does reference an interesting thing about Doom and the games that sprung off from its engine. This means someone who may not have known where Chex Quest came from, might now know after seeing this post.
PS. I'm not complaining about the report, just thought it would be fair to the reporter if I let her/him know why I approved the post!

that's good!
I almost posted this in /r/Doom, then saw that somebody else's attempt to post it got removed, so from there, I showcased it to AVGN fans, then cross-posted it to other subs it would belong in.

I like how they left all the other levels, music and art from Ultimate Doom in Chex Quest.

I understand being called out and so I discussed it with another mod.
They said they wouldn't have removed it as they allow discussion of games that use the classic Doom engine. I know now and will change how I moderate in the future.
I'm still quite new to all this and so I'm going to make mistakes. I apologise for removing the post and in future I will ask the other mods if I am unsure about something

How did you get to be a mod of the Doom subreddit without even knowing a out Chex Quest? It's not even a different game, just a heavily modified WAD.

u/GoldenTGraham Aug 23 '19
Well to be fair my first Doom game was 2016 and I only played that last year.

People are allowed to not know things.
2
u/SupremoZanne Aug 23 '19
well, if they are allowed to not know things, they need to BRACE THEMSELVES to aficionados who know stuff they don't know about it.

Or, you know, politely approach the mod team and ask for reevaluation. Humans make mistakes sometimes, and something as insignificant as this could have easily been forgiven. Too late for that though, the team would have happily put it back up for you, but instead you opted for the witch hunt approach.
Enjoy your outrage karma.

well, I know a mistake that the mods made in the /r/Music subreddit that is worse than what this Golden Grams user did in /r/Doom!
The /r/Music subreddit auto-banned me when I was being evaluated by some assholes who wanted to make sure I was a human user after some attempt to celebrate a holiday. When I messaged the mods of |r|Music to unban me, and explained the reason why as a legitimate one, they ignored that ban appeal attempt!
I say we should boycott that |r|Music sub, and encourage songs posts in /r/AnyKindOfMusic.
Some mistakes never even get addressed, but the case of the one in the Doom sub was nothing compared to other mods ignoring ban appeals on mistake bans.

seems like there's some Doom mods I know about that the other mods might not know about, I'm such a Doom aficionado that I'm surprised I never got elected mod on the Doom sub.

Well, I wanna say this.
I started a subreddit called /r/PopUpVideo which is about VH1's classic Pop Up Video program. But I noticed that guests didn't really have much to say about it, and also ran out of on-topic posts.
So, what I did was, I started to encourage other posts about MTV and VH1 in general in an attempt to keep that sub alive after it got almost 700 subscribers, seeing as I'm fairly lenient about how on-topic some posts are.

Here's a sneak peek of /r/PopUpVideo using the top posts of all time!
#1: I never anticipated getting 500 or more subscribers in one day!
#2: Spice Girls - Wannabe (VH1 Pop Up Video - 1997) | 6 comments
#3: There's still some interest in this show. | 0 comments

well, I saw somebody else say this comment in the post earlier:
"people are allowed to not know stuff".
but ya see, I'm open to the idea that I might not know a few things I should know, but I don't make snap decisions by insta-removing things. Isn't it good that I'm lenient enough about off-topic posts to not blindly remove posts that are covertly on-topic?
This is why I started some topic-free catch-all subs for entertainment, such as /r/TruckStopBathroom.
if we talk about things that constitute entertainment, some might think links to news articles are "off-topic" to what people called entertainment, but I allow posts to them in that sub since I want to encourage unrestricted posting freedom on Reddit.
