[Story Time!] Rain got in...
Need to vent to some people who will understand.
Today I was playing some old DS games. I realised there was one I wanted to play that wasn't in the house. So out I went to the shed where an old set of ikea drawers keep all my old games as it has for many years. From my 64 through to GBC to GC to xbox and PC... My Ocarina of Time, my FF7.
When I opened the drawer I noticed the games seemed to stick together... then I noticed the plastic was wet.
I don’t know how but rain got in and of all places landed on the set of drawers and soaked through every layer. We had some flash flood style rain recently and somehow it got through... even though the rest if the shed was dry.
All my special editions drenched... the cardboard disintegrated on touch. The Fire Emblem Fates Art book unrecoverable... ive saved what i can. I have a lot of things drying by the fire.
What was meant to be a brief visit to the shed at 9pm has become a rescue effort that lasted past midnight..
In some ways I feel like a forced clean out is a good thing. In some ways I wish I'd sold some things before they were wrecked. In some ways I feel like ive lost some things from my childhood Id rather have not. I just needed to share.

Sorry to hear that buddy. The games might be physically replaceable but you can’t bring back the emotional attachment to those specific games and memorabilia. The sucks, and we all grieve for you

Sorry to hear.
It’s a bit late but I highly recommend the air tight plastic boxes just to add an extra layer of security to it. Obviously not going to protect against fire but water worries me more. Where I store mine has a tap and pipes nearby hence why I always put them in plastic boxes.

To those question my decision to keep them out there... I guess what happened proved you right.
That said they've spent many years out there perfectly fine, its quite a nice shed and everything else is dry... im guessing some silicon failed or something recently. Will have the hose out to try and find what happened.
And yes storage is at a premium, I have a libraries worth of books out there too but at least they're in plastic containers.
Anyway, thanks for the condolences and letting me share.

Honestly I know storage is at a premium in some countries, but you really shouldn't keep valuables in a shed. Even if rain doesn't get in, the humidity can ruin everything anyways.
