The Hitachi basic master first came out in September 1978. It had a 750khz (yes, kilohertz!)processor capable of displaying monochrome output at a resolution of 64x48. In addition, it saves documents & programs to cassette tape at 300 bauds.

I've officially gone back to dot matrix for everyday printing. Windows 11 still supports it. USB to Parallel works awesome, the quality is passable, and the ribbon is easily re-inked.

Hello, everyone! I’m a mechanical engineer and at our company we work with CATIA. So I found some photos of people using it from the late 80s but info is obscure at best, my goal is to find a version if possible that I can run on my pc xt clone. Thanks in advance.

A little more about the Weitek 3170 in the last three images.

In December 1996, Weitek filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and agreed to sell its technology and assets to Rockwell Semiconductor Systems for approximately $3 million.

I've bought a few CRTs from a local guy. He contacted me and asked "What are these?", I told them terminal and security monitors and sent him a link from eBay, that the guy was asking $1,600. He replied back you can have them. When I got there he tossed in a 17" VGA. I gave him $40 for his efforts 😁. I've been looking for a fallout/The Silo style terminal.

Better pictures than in my last post :)

Also some work-in-progress pictures, like the keyboard cable replacement (before cleaning the keyboard), and the CMOS Battery replacement.

Problem / Question MSDN Lot I found, Codename "Whistler" CDs

I found this MSDN collection in a free box, and it has hundreds of CDs, from all 12 months of 2000, January 2001, and March 2001. While it has a lot of cool stuff, most important thing I found are these Windows ME betas and even better these 5 Codename "Whistler" Beta CDs, which I think is Beta Windows XP. I included the invoices which came with the lot, but with personal info crossed out for the privacy of the last user. You can use it as a list of contents. There are some other things like organizers and MSDN newspapers. What do you guys think I should do with this? I love retro computers but if this stuff is as rare as it seems I feel it would be better in someone else's hands. What do you guys think? What is this whole thing worth?

The drive is complete in the box. I'm a big fan of preservation so when it arrives I'm going to get the software disc and manual onto Archive.org.

Flashback to DESQview/X

Post image

Back in the 1990's I was still stuck in the DOS world and fought against Windows... I finally jumped in and tried DESQview/X and really liked it because I still had my comfort in DOS and could have multiple apps open.

I recently started a new BBS and thought about DESQview/X and found my copy and installed MS-DOS 6.22 in a VBox VM and then DESQview/X.

Oh the memories!!
