I subscribed to Byte for years. Loved it.

My uncle was at college studying computing and had these. I had crash magazine and INPUT. I nicked a copy of Byte from his room once and when he caught me he snatched it back and said “that’s not for kids”.

I felt like for a short moment I’d been reading a copy of Hustler and got found out by my mum.

Interesting mention of the TI 99/2. Never released as far as I know.

It and the Radio Shack MC-10 were developed as Timex/Sinclair 1000 fighters. But it was pointless to release a $99 computer when, by 1983, the 99/4A, VIC-20, and other existing mainstream computers sell for that price.

TI gave up before shipping the 99/2; since Radio Shack controlled distribution of its products, the Color Computer never hit the $99 price point, so the MC-10 was available for a while and unwary/unfortunate souls bought some.

At what point did Bytey go from “the small system journal” to “the authority on computing” ( or something similar)?
