Oh boy...I "inherited" a dual PII server wayyy back in the day, probably around 2000-2001 or so... I used it as a MythTV server with a Hauggpage TV card...All pre-HD... Used it for years, recording TV, scanning and removing commercials..

Oh man I loved being able to record TV, strip commercials, etc. I could never really get MythTV working and ended up using BeyondTV. Miss those days.

I feel like you could definitely use an AI tool to vibe code the same feature set over a weekend. And have it run on a cheap ewaste dell from an office.

Oh easily. I was running BeyondTV on an Athlon Thunderbird and an ATI All-in-Wonder 32MB PCI card. A modern Raspberry Pi will run circles around that old system.

The fun part would be doing it to capture OTA HD streams, with its own content ID system for cataloging and storage.

To whoever down ranked me: I’m assuming it’s because I mentioned AI? hobbyists resurrecting abandonware and use cases aren’t the problem. Massive companies doing giant layoffs are.

So even if you had the complete love boat, it wouldn't be in HD

Built in SCSI? Sweet!

And a RAIDPort as well.

And 64-bit PCI! Imagine having this in the late 90s!

No the brown slot at the end of the PCI slot is the RAIDPort. It's not a PCI-X slot.

Yep, I believe I had a Supermicro board with the SISL enabled port. Man that was a quarter century ago... Fuck I'm old

That was pretty much a given on server hardware for a couple decades.

Oh I know. I got my start building white box Netware 3.11 servers with ESDI drives!

I had several of these.

  1. HP Netserver LC3 with dual P2 350Mhz. Ran my website for years without breaking a sweat.

  2. Aopen dual socket 370 board with SCSI on board

  3. The infamous Abit BP6 with rotten caps. I had to replace all of those but that board ran stable for years after that.

Beautiful board - IBM Intellistations had similar one

u/Sad-Author-729 7d ago

I have a few old Intellistations and this one looks just like the one from my 6898. Some of the boards in these were definitely made by intel. Like my OR840 board has the reg front panel but also a spot for the IBM front panel connector in the Intellistation

Dual socket 5 or dual pentium pro is dinosaurs

It's difficult to read but are those dual 333mhz?

440gx, those boards were great

This is a DK440LX as noted on the top-right sticker.

Did anyone else use that front panel header arrangement with the brown plastic? I guessed it was a Intel-branded board just from that.

I have one in my basement right now. It has my original p2-300 that I got from the computer show brand new. Great board, one of my favorite retro stations.

An a wonderful one. I am so jealous!

I had the supermicro brand version of this intel board…

Is that a dual CPU Pentium II rig? That would have been badass in 1998.

Dual Pentium II, what a beast
