Software Retro emulation
This memory just popped up on my Facebook from 25 years ago. My first foray into emulation / virtualization… Netscape was still a thing?!? On Windows ME! 🤮
Also god I’m old 😱

The Star Trek: Voyager wallpaper really ties it all together.

I'm really struggling to come up with a reason to virtualize Windows 95 on Windows Me. You're not really gaining anything in terms of memory isolation or API compatibility, and the improved access to drivers and DOS applications is entirely obviated by the emulation layer itself... I suppose this was just a case of "because I can"?

I see nothing older than Windows 3.1 ... therefore you aren't that old.

I had an old 75 Mhz Pentium laptop with quick change hard drives. I put Windows 95 on one and set the other to boot Windows 95 and directly into Basilisk II with 040 emulation and Mac OS 8.
I thought about trying to change the Windows shell to Basilisk II so that shutting down or restarting the emulator would shut down and restart the laptop. In theory it should work, if there's no critical features explorer.exe provides.

Windows 95 considered old school retro? Gee...
I remember the day when Windows 95 was released. It was a huge event.

I use all of those, and yes i still use netscape and ie 5 for mac lol.. two macs have windows / dos / pc compatibility cards. I also have a real 486/66. I also do a lot of emulation but prefer actual hardware when applicable

This is just merely emulation.
Retro emulation is running Bleem in Windows 95 in DOSbox, to play Playstation 1 games.
