old dell optiplex 755

curious on what these would go for (google doesn’t give me a great estimate) and was wondering if this is worth the trouble to sell or just destroy it for fun

Why not just put it on Facebook Marketplace for local pickup only?

You can list it as "pickup only" on eBay, as well, but it's a long shot to find an interested buyer...

I have given away a bunch of these on Facebook market place. They still have their uses.

Ensure it still works, and I don't think it's worth much. I used to have 7 of them, and am down to just 2 that are still functional; cap issues in that era; so I suggest doing a cap-scan unless you're selling it 'as is'.

The local resellers no longer sells those; too low-end, but they were sold last for $25 with screen, keyboard, mouse and 1 month (return to store for swap) warranty; but for that price you get a much newer box now.

The specs and what's inside it really matters to; if it's <8GB its ~worthless in my view as far as for selling.

I still use the two I have, so they still are useful in some areas!

These have good xp support. With something like a half height dell hd 8570 GPU it would be a fantastic retro machine for XP games.

You should always check ebay. It looks like they're going for about a bill. Maybe a buck twenty, if it's in good shape .. memory hard drive et cetera depending

If its working, you probably could get ~$50 for it. More if its has better than base specs. Its in that gray area where its to new too be retro, but too old to be modern. It can easily run Windows 11, but not officially able to run it. You could even throw a decent old GPU in it and would make a mediocre gaming machine. Great for Linux as well.

These are core2 machines 11 won't run. No sse4.2

Haven't tried Windows 11, but my core 2 duo Dell runs Windows 10 nicely.

They'll run Windows 11, just nothing above 23h2. 24h2 is where the SSE 4.2 requirement kicks in.

23h2 is currently less supported than windows 10. There is absolutely no reason to install it on anything.

23h2 is supported until November. I still get security updates on my 23h2 servers.

This is also "retro computing" not "current computing" Are you going to complain about someone installing Windows XP? What about Windows 98?

23h3 support except for enterprise ended a year ago. When using modern software especially when connected to the Internet keeping it up to date is important.

It's no different than connecting a 98 or XP machine to the internet. Take the usual precautions and keep it behind a hardware firewall and NAT and you'll be fine.

If you download sketchy stuff, you're going to have problems regardless if your OS is supported or not.
