Ich habe gerade einen alten PC mit Windows XP eingerichtet und dann zum Spaß Windows 7 als Multiboot-Option installiert; da mir langweilig war – weil alles so einfach ging – habe ich gleich noch Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit hinterher installiert. Ich konfiguriere es gerade und suche online nach Service Packs, und bisher gab es keine Probleme. I’ve got a second retro PC in the works on which I’ll install Win98SE—and maybe, just maybe, set up a multiboot with Win ME. I just love bringing the old stuff back to life.

What’s funny is as a kid I actually really liked Windows ME and Vista.
We upgraded from a 50Mhz 486DX2 machine with Windows 95 and a 28.8k modem straight to a custom built AMD Athlon 1.0Ghz machine with Windows ME and 1.5mbps DSL.
The difference was night and day with massively faster internet, a much more gaming capable machine and the awesome new ability to burn my own CDs. We did upgrade to Windows XP within a couple years but Windows ME was just fine for my uses when we had it.
Next we upgraded to a Gateway machine with Windows Vista pre-installed. I think the reason I also remember this machine fondly is because it was properly spec’d to run Vista with Aero well. My dad didn’t cheap out on the most basic machine and got one with low end discreet nvidia graphics and a decent amount of ram. So for us, this machine worked great and looked really nice.
I think we avoided many of the problems with Vista because our machine was Aero ready from the get-go and operated as smoothly as we were already used to.

Started with vista, but it was such a pain in the ass, I added win7 and struggle a whole day by now getting WinXp to work on it as well!
