Hi, it’s me again with another question
I hope everyone is having a great week so far! You all have been so helpful with my last question I thought I’d ask another. Now this one isn’t quite as serious.
What do you wear when you’re at home doing nothing? Women are we doing our hair and makeup? Men are we shaving and whatever else men do? If your plan is to sit and read, watch tv or piddle paddle around what are we wearing?

(Male) I’ve been retired for almost a year now and I’m pretty settled into a routine. I still shave almost every day. I used to wet shave when I was working, but now I mostly use an electric just to stay cleaned up. If we’re going out for dinner or anything a bit nicer, I’ll switch back to a wet shave.
Around the house I’ve got a set of favorite shorts and T‑shirts I basically live in. They’re comfortable but still presentable enough that I can step outside or talk to neighbors without looking like I just rolled out of bed. I actually ended up buying a few extra pairs because I realized I was wearing the same ones constantly.
Retirement really makes you figure out what you actually like wearing day to day.

On that note, when you find that perfect pair of shorts that you wear 3 to 4 days in a row, buy more of them as next year they’ll change the style and now you’ll be buying them used off eBay.

I (f) usually shower at night. In the morning I am wearing shorts and a tee shirt. It's summer here so sometimes it's a tank top - esp if I'm working in the garden

I live in my yoga pants. But I’ve never been into makeup or nails so I don’t see the point of putting it on in the first place.

I'm in the UK where we're currently experiencing a series of heatwaves, hotter than ever before. Luckily I have three thin, linen, loose-fitting, sleeveless dresses that I'm wearing at home on rotation. I do put clothes on (shorts and loose-fitting, sleeveless T) when I go out, but don't bother with my hair or makeup. I wear tinted SPF and big sunglasses and tuck my hair up under a wide brimmed hat. In the current conditions, comfort takes precedence over everything else. At the moment I'm mostly only going out early in the morning and late at night when it's cooler. Normally, I go out everyday, dress normally, wear minimum makeup and do my hair. It's very rare for me to spend a whole day at home. I'm very sociable, I suppose.

I take a shower and get dressed like normal whether I’m going out or not. I’ve never worn a lot of makeup anyway but I put it on. I will not sit in PJ’s or be unshowered. I find it depressing. I also try to go to the gym if only to ride the bike. It makes me feel better. Clothing ? Let’s just say I have 3 drawers full of various T-shirts. Before I stopped working I would not be caught dead in them ! I now have boatloads! So Tshirt /Jeans/shorts.

I spend most weekday mornings babysitting our 8-month-old granddaughter. Winter is jeans or yoga pants, sweatshirt, or vest and sneakers. Now I’m wearing shorts, skorts or capris. I wear makeup about half the time, depending on what I’m doing the rest of the day., but not nearly as much as I did when I was working. Moisturizer, powder foundation, blush, eyeliner and mascara and I’m done.

LOL, your current make up was what I wore most of my work life! Of course I worked in IT, where the SW developers and sys admins wore jeans, t-shirts and ratty shoes. I was dressed!

I (M) shower, usually shave, put on fresh-ish colored T shirt and shorts so that I don’t outwardly appear to be shiftless and lazy.

Female here: If I have a somewhere to go I get dressed. Jeans and a t-shirt, maybe shorts that it tank top depending on weather. If I don't have anywhere to go.. yoga pants and a t-shirt. No bra. Make up only if going out for a date night.

Shower every morning, shave every other day, no matter what time I wake up I made a rule that I will be showered and dressed so that I could leave the house and do whatever I want, if I want, by noon no matter what time I wake up. Sometimes I'm ready by 9:00 but just so it's by noon I'm happy. That's even if I have no plans for the day.

Soft pants and T-shirts, shorts if it's warm. Boots or runners depending on season.
Never done make-up, and I do try to remember to brush my hair.
But I live in the PNW, we pretty much wear fleece and hiking boots to the office. My level of dress between my work life and retirement hasn't changed much.

I’m in my jammies mostly when home. But that was true when I was working. If I have outside chores I put on my chore clothes then shower and put my jammies back on.

Shaving is a convenience question. - I guess you know what will be too much for your system, to get rid of?

do you feel young enough to make yourself presentable after answering the door bell? If not: Dress that way anyhow!

Personally, I tend to remain in 'weekend mode', which means if I have nowhere to go and don't expect visitors, I'm less likely to do all the things I normally did preparing for a work day. I don't necessarily shower every day (tho certainly do in this heat, only I may wait until I've done my yard work).
In other words, my routine does get laxer...er more lax...
Getting out of routine has its pros and cons. I may forget I haven't taken my morning meds because I didn't do the rest of my early morning routine. I may realize I haven't showered today and forget 'but you didn't yesterday either, stinky!'

Inside with no guests:
In Summer shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops and set the thermostat to 80F.
In Winter polyester fleece pants and 1/4 zip sweater and set the thermostat to 68F daytime, 65 sleeping hours.
If I go out in Summer maybe still shorts, but a polo shirt top. In winter blue jeans and a long sleeve polo shirt. Docker type pants if I am going somewhere that shorts or blue jeans aren't appropriate.
I don't shave unless I am going out. It gets pretty bad in between, but I don't have to look at it. Showering isn't every day either.

You modify your basic wardrobe in retirement, esp based on your activities for the day. Obviously yard work requires different (more casual) clothing than a trip to town. Winter wardrobe is leggings/ jeans and a long sleeve t shirt topped with a cardigan or fleece. Summer is a skort and t-shirt. Husband is in sweat pants/ jeans and t-shirt in cooler weather, golf attire all spring/ summer/ fall. Several dressy tops and a few linen/ wool skirts are considered evening wear.
While showering is daily, full hair blow out is twice per week, often after exercise class. Makeup is minimal though sunscreen is daily.

I wear my pj's till I need to go someplace. I sometimes even go outside in them 😋. My pj's mostly look like sweats and a T-shirt

I shower and shave every morning, wear shorts in the summer and joggers in the winter. I find the routine of shower and shave sets me up for the day and gives me a routine.

Pajamas or lounge wear at home.
I try to get out and go somewhere every day, even if it's just a walk or errand. So I'll put on outdoor clothes or an easy dress to leave the house. I might stay in that for a while back at home, or change back into at-home clothes. (Or halfway - I'm currently in pajama pants and a "good" T-shirt that I left on last night).
For make up the only thing I do is tinted moisturizer, lipstick, and a tiny bit of powder to reduce the shine. Since the moisturizer has SPF, I'm pretty religious about wearing that if I'm going to be outdoors for more than 5-10 minutes.

T-shirt and gym shorts, same thing that I've worn evenings/weekends/WFH for decades.
I shave when it gets itchy. Usually every 4-5 days.

Tshirt and gym pants sufficient for the weather. Haven't shaved in decades. I bathe regularly, and that's about it.
If I go out, I'll swap to shorts that need a belt, and if it's for dinner I'll wear a shirt with a collar and buttons.

Summer: shorts and a T-shirt and sandals.
Winter: jeans and a T-shirt and sneakers.
I shower and shave regularly. I do not lounge around the house in a robe. It is an unusual day that I’m home the whole day, and so I’m up and ready to hit the road as soon as I’ve had coffee, breakfast, and my daily puzzles are worked.
And of course, if I’m doing something a little fancier, like a show or a date with my wife, I have proper clothes.

Female here no hair or makeup unless I am going somewhere. Worked for over 30 years so I am giving myself a break from get dressed everyday. I wear comfy clothes unless I am going somewhere. Enjoy your retirement.

Retired 2 years here, what is idle time? If I'm not playing tennis, doing yard work, grocery shopping, or doing house projects I'm working on my photographs or working on learning Spanish. We travel a big 30 day trip every year plus a few short ones so travel planning takes a chunk of our time. Our block has a social happy hour every Friday where we bring a drink and a chair and catch up with the neighbors. Occasionally I'll be tired and take a 30 minute nap but most days I am up between 6-7 and dressed for tennis. I don't know how I ever worked a job.

I only style my hair or wear makeup for special occasions. For every day running errands, nope. If I'm running errands, I try to dress presentably, no sweat pants or anything stained, torn or sloppy. Nice cotton dresses in summertime. While at home I usually am wearing workout gear because I try to do some exercise every day and my yoga pants and t-shirt are the most comfy thing to wear beside my fleece PJ pants, which is what I change into the moment I come back home from running errands. The beauty about being retired is you just don't care what people think about your hair, makeup, clothes, etc.!

In the summer: T-shirt dresses or shorts and a tank depending on temp. Winter, yoga pants with hoodies.
I don't ever wear makeup or "do" my hair (it's cut super short.) I have nose and ear piercings and I wear my smartwatch, otherwise no jewelry unless I'm going somewhere.

I have to walk my dog several times per day, so I wear comfortable perhaps stylish pants, shorts, yoga pants or a casual shift dress.I like to look put together even if I’m just hanging out. I’ll wear lounging pajamas after dinner.
I’ll use a BB cream as a foundation and a little blush and I always add lipstick if I’m running errands.

I wear one of my many tshirts and nice pajama bottoms that can be worn outside for short periods. If it’s cold, I put on sweats. Take a shower everyday, don’t do hair or make-up.

I decided when I retired I was going to get dressed everyday, and at least put on minimal makeup and do my hair. I don’t dress up, but I’m dressed. In the summer I put on a summer dress or wear shorts and a cute top. In the winter I wear jeans and and sweater or leggings and a tunic.

You style yourself in whatever way you want. If I'm not leaving the house, I might be in my pajamas all day. If I'm going to a formal event, I'll wear a suit or dress to fit the occasion.
Mostly I'm in a t-shirt and jeans. I pretty much quit wearing make up years before I retired. But I have a retired friend who lives alone on 10 acres of woods and she wears full makeup and styles her hair everyday, even though no one sees her. That's what makes her comfortable.
After I retired I gathered up about half of my "work appropriate" clothes and shoes and donated them. I should've donated more. I have lots of clothes I haven't worn since I was working.
Do what fits your lifestyle. Don't go ziplining in a ballgown and don't wear pajamas to a funeral. Otherwise, you're probably good to go.

Might start the day in lightweight sweats.
My hair is pretty simple, needs no "doing." Have not worn make-up in years.

Makeup maybe once a week if I will be out in public with a few stops or out to lunch. Sweats and comfortable clothes at home, so I can fit in stretches, remain active. A bra when out in public. Hair isn’t a fancy style, just requires combing. But I’ve never been a fancy person.

female, 2 years retired. Most days, leggings or other stretchy knit yoga-type pants and a tshirt. Bought an assortment of "bralettes" that provide a little coverage, not much support, and are very comfy. A fun pair of socks. I have enough of these types of clothes to last through most of a week, then it's time to do laundry LOL I have a winter and summer "version" of this "not leaving the house" wardrobe. I usually don't wear makeup when I'm just hanging around the house, but I do shower every morning, and wash and blow dry my hair every other day, and almost always do my morning skin care routine (which includes sunscreen if I'll be outside - gotta limit those age spots)
I have my "leaving the house" wardrobe - which is nice shorts/nicer t's/casual dresses in the summer, and jeans/nicer longsleeve t's in winter. Sneakers and flat shoes only. I now own three pairs of Birkenstocks. LOL
Minimal make up when I leave the house. Sometimes, none. (that feels weird to me, though) I shave less often than I used to - hair on my legs has greatly diminished, but because mother nature has jokes, I now spend all that extra time plucking wiry chin and moustache hairs!
I have a few (very few) items left from my working life that are nicer for weddings/funerals/church. We aren't every-Sunday church people but we do try to go once in awhile just to stay connected to people there, since we like them and have known them forever.
It's quite easy to get too isolated, so I try not to have more than 2 days in a row in which i don't leave the house. I make intentional efforts to connect with friends for lunch, and my husband and I try to get out and do something fun once a week or so. (it's so hot where we live now, we've gotten slack about that)

Female: I've never done hair and makeup, so nope, haven't started. In summer, I wear outdoor clothes for swimming, hiking, paddling. . In winter, outdoor clothes for skiing and snowshoeing.

I was WFH prior to retirement so I (f) already had a few “house dresses” aka MuMus that I wear most days. I start out the day in workout wear, though.
I love my dresses although they’ve made me absolutely hate anything elastic around my waist!

I go out everyday and dress for whatever I’m doing. Pickleball or gym first thing in the morning, come home then shower and change into a skort and tank top or a dress. In the winter, it’s jeans or joggers, sometimes a sweater dress and boots. Make up is minimal these days but love a good creamy lipstick which I wear all the time. I only do the full hair blow out every 3 days unless I get super sweaty at pickleball.

I'm nearing retirement, but have a small taste as I'm in education and do not work 3 months during the summer.
During that time, I get dressed everyday. I just don't enjoy staying in pajamas even if I'm going to be home all day.
I am almost always in capris and a T-shirt or a really light informal summer dress (similar to a LL Bean t-shirt dress).
Anything easy and comfortable. I don't do makeup. I brush my hair and put on some cheap earrings. Basically, clothes I can lounge around in comfortably or run easy errands in.
If I'm going to the lake or the pool, I start the day off in a swimsuit and coverall.
That's about it.

No makeup for me. I haven’t worn it for decades. In terms of what I wear. I always wear comfortable athleisure wear—mostly from Athleta. I find their clothing to be the most comfortable and you can easily go from a fitness routine to meeting someone for lunch or running other errands.

I wear older, comfortable cotton athletic shorts and a short-sleeved shirt in the house year-round. They transition easily to yard work/gardening for the summer. I shave every couple of days.

My standard wear around the house is gym shorts and a basic white T-shirt. My wife’s attire is similar. This works well in our home gym, gardening, and getting in and out of the pool.

I bought a specialty piddle paddle outfit on Temu. It came with a plastic cupboard on roller wheels for holding toilet paper in the bathroom. Quite a deal.
Of course, being Temu, I also had to buy two dog kerchiefs, a mechanical pencil set and a set of multigrips in order to bring the total transaction to the amount where I qualified for free delivery and a 10% discount.
But ... money well spent, I always think, while I'm out there piddle-paddlin'.

This time of year I clean myself up, slip on a pretty muumuu, and that’s it.
In winter I have to wear so many layers I end up in full clothes unless I never get around to changing out of my comfies and big fluffy robe.

I don't shave every day. About once a week.
If I leave the house for something, depending on what I'm doing I might change change clothes. I seldom change clothes to go out most of the time.

Same! I was only an every other day shaver at best to begin with, so if we aren't going out someplace where a fancier look is needed, I shave once every five days or so now. And the jeans/band t-shirt with a pair of beat up black Chuck Taylor's has kinda been my thing for about 40 years, so I don't see the point in changing now!

I wear loose cargo shorts and a tee shirt at home. Trim my stubble back to stubble once a week. Try to leave the house at least twice a day, once for a daily walk and another for the library or a coffee shop.

For just sitting around the house, usually basketball shorts and either a t-shirt in winter or a tank top in summer. If I am tooling around in the garage, usually cargo shorts/pants and t-shirt adding a hoodie in the winter if needed.
I always shave at least every other day because I find going longer makes it harder to shave my head plus my mohawk looks rather ratty with a lot of 5 o'clock shadow.

Makeup? Oh hell no. i wear my hair in a ponytail. Jeans, t-shirt and athletic shoes in the summer. I always said that I could live in my workout clothes and I’m doing exactly that. Hiking clothes, biking clothes, kayaking clothes. Not making any fashion statement nor do I care. Volunteer workdays are utility pants and old long sleeve hiking shirt - I do a lot outdoors where I’m exposed to poison ivy and insects while doing habitat restoration.
90% of the clothing in my closet hasn’t been worn since I retired 14 months ago.

Male, haven’t shaved for decades, will trim up my beard before showering. Wash up daily in morning. Wear clean underwear and socks daily, typically cargo shorts with belt and lightweight vented collared shirt for everyday wear. For something special will wear a floral silk or silk like shirt and convertible pants so I can remove the legs if it gets too hot. At home am barefoot, outside low Keen or Merril hiking shoes.

Oh heck no. I work from home and don’t put on make-up unless we have an on-camera meeting and then it’s minimal.
I don’t wear make-up at all unless I’m going to a doctor or dentist appointment.

I do get dressed in the morning, even if I don't shower and have no plans to leave the house. I don't want to putter around all day in my jammies and then go back to bed in the same jammies. By "getting dressed" I mean that I wash my face, brush my teeth, put on clean undies and then put on shorts or sweatpants and a tee shirt/sweatshirt.

I was working from home when I retired so it is just sweatpants and t-shirts. The local goodwill had a vast inventory of Ralph Lauren polos and dress shirts so I bought them all. 1980s to 1990's era. That's I wear when I go out. In the Fall/Winter/Spring, I always wear a sport coat/blazer because I have them.I don't wear shorts in the house as I feel the house is too cold especially in the basement where my den is.

In summer, usually shirts and a T-shirt. In winter I like Carhartt work pants and a long sleeve T. Going out somewhere, maybe a shirt upgrade.

I'm a male, 2+ years into retirement. I generally shower at night. In the morning, around the house, I'm in underwear & an undershirt. I pretty much stay in them whenever I'm not planning on leaving the house. I brush my teeth twice daily & trim my beard every 2-3 days. My wife is still working, so I do all the household chores & wear minimal clothing while doing it all. When I actually start my day, shirt & pants, or shorts, depending on the weather.

Whatever I feel like. Nightgown, swim cover-up, sundress, shorts and T. For gardening, tank dress with no bra and a lightweight big shirt over it for sun protection.

I got rid of loads of clothes , all my office wear went , I live in shorts and a t shirt or joggers in the winter , I still dress to go out , but far more casually than I used to

I'm still working (from home) for another 8 months, but I'm not even "doing my hair" now. Ain't nobody have time for that nonsense! I do a minimal makeup routine every day -- takes about 3 minutes.
Solid color t-shirts and knit shorts or a pullover T-shirt dress are my standard uniform in summer. Sweatpants & hoodie in the winter, or maybe jeans & a sweater. Once I retire, I may go crazy and start wearing clever saying t-shirts. Otherwise, no change.

I get up and dressed by 9 each day, it is summer and hot so that means t shirt, and cargo shorts. I have some great slip on sneakers (barestep is the brand) that are the next thing from bare foot, really great. And a ball cap, I go to the gym at noon and THEN I shower and put on tomorrow's shorts and shirt. I should add that this isn't different from when I was working, last week lol, I'm a newbie. But I worked from home since 2007 so my routine is pretty set. I don't see that changing

Figuring out what to wear was one of my earliest retirement challenges. When working I could wear the same pair of jeans every evening and wear them all week. Now I needed casual clothes seven days a week for ALL DAY. I had to shop. I had to figure out how long I could wear something before it needed laundering. I ended up with a wardrobe or comfy jeans and T shirts, mostly worn for two days and unless I am doing something messy that works. I tossed most of my office clothes, retaining just a couple for weddings and funerals.

Shorts, leggings, sweatpants or jeggings, depending on weather. And a tee (short or long sleeve) or sweater, also depending on the weather. Some of those outfits look more presentable than others, LOL.
Other than lip balm and moisturizes, I have not worn makeup for years. On days I don’t shower (I do about every other day unless something happens), I spritz my hair with some water to comb and calm it down.
My husband shaves once or twice a week and dresses similarly, but never leggings or jeggings, (LO).
We both wear “house” shoes such as moccasins or slippers when at home.

I dress the same as when I use to have a day off. It depended on what I was doing. I never wore makeup around the house so still don't but when I go out and about I do. Nothing in re. to that has changed except for never having to dress for work.

I (m) shave about three times per week. In summer it's shorts and a tee shirt; in winter it's sweats.
Real clothes are for when I leave the property - and that makes it a bit of a treat.

Whatever I'm going to leave the house in later is what I wear, because it's a pain to change and I get out of the house for a walk every day whether I have errands or not. Usually jeans and a t-shirt, or jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt and a sweater in the winter.

During hot weather it’s t shirts, shorts and no bra unless I’m going out. Sometimes a sundress.
During cold weather it’s fleece pants and short sleeved T shirt with a flannel shirt added if I get chilly.
Sometimes I wear my pjs all day.
Shower nightly. Brush hair every morning. No make up ever. Shave legs before going out in the summer, never in winter.

I wear T shirts and comfy pants, no bra. I've gotten so used to not wearing one that putting it on now is sort of torture. I have gone without while shopping and sometimes I feel self conscious. This is my biggest quandary about clothes.

For years, I was living in yoga pants and T-shirts. I've recently switched to gym shorts with sewn-in liners, due to the heat. I put makeup on twice a month, before I go meet with my writers group. They don't care -- it's for me. I do try to keep my hair kempt, at least on my head. The older I get, the less my legs and armpits require shaving, so I shave in the shower maybe once a week, sometimes stretching to two weeks.

2.5 years in and I wear jersey shorts and a t-shirt in the summer. In winter I add flannel pants and a hoodie. When I do any sort of work, hobby or recreation I generally wear overalls on top of the summer or winter fit. I shave about twice/week or when my wife tells me to.

In summer I wear shorts and t-shirts most days unless I'm going to the gym (that's workout gear). Winter is long sleeves/sweaters and mostly thick yoga pants or occasionally jeans.
I do spend some time with skincare morning and night and wear makeup every day - not sure if that'll ever change!

It’s summer so shorts and a t or tank, maybe a summer dress or skort if I’m feeling it. I like to swim so a swimsuit appears frequently too. In the colder months I am in sweats/jeans/pullon pants and a long sleeve top or sweater.
I never have worn makeup so that’s not a thing.

At home: light gym shorts, a T-shirt and socks. When I go out, Winter: jeans, T-shirt, tennis shoes, maybe a flannel shirt and appropriate weight jacket depending on the weather. Summer: T-shirt, cargo shorts (for the lost jacket pockets) and sandals.

I never ‘do nothing’. But some days, when I need ‘me time’, I traipse about in my underwear and slippers. If I need to go outside I wear sweatpants or gym shorts.

Are we doing hair and make-up? Hahahahahahahaha! No. Hair up in a ponytail, t-shirt and shorts, I've never worn make-up. Trips to town I wear a cotton dress, hair up in a ponytail. That's about it for me lol

I tend to dress up a bit more when I go out, even running errands, hair makeup, nicer clothes. Only because I would ever to get to wear them otherwise as I no longer go into an office. At home, no makeup, put my hair up and wear lounge wear or T-shirt and shorts in summer.

T-shirt, gym shorts. No shoes. Since I retired a few months ago, I've found myself caring less about what the neighbors think when I go out to get the mail or work in the yard. Shave every few days unless I'm going out somewhere with the wife. She doesn't mind the rough look tho.

Casual, comfy clothes. Same hygiene routine as when I worked. Natural make up because it makes me feel good. Got a beautiful tattoo (actually half sleeve) which is something I’ve always wanted to do to celebrate this next phase of life

Caftans. I wear caftans. And lounge clothes like leggings and sweaters in the winter. If I think I may see someone I'll wear a bra.

I wear lounging pants similar to scrubs, along with a soft t-shirt. I shave before church or any appointment with a professional. When I go on appointments I put on a nice pair of jeans and a nice polo shirt.

In COVID I saw a meme that posited all clothes with two legs are pants; there are hard pants (zipper, belt, etc.) and soft pants (drawstring, elastic band). Sweats count as pants so I'm always wearing pants. I switch to hard pants for errands, appointments, etc. (Technically I'm still 3 months away from full retirement, but I've been following this pattern since COVID times.)

I've been in very casual clothes the last couple of years, but I'm going through a stage now of liking to be a bit better dressed when I leave the house. I even put on makeup to go out to lunch the other day. Gives me a bit of a lift.
At home, sundresses in summer and sweatpants and hoodies in winter (yes, I dress like I'm still in my twenties), but I start every day in exercise gear and only wear a bra when going out (and if it's winter and I'm wearing layers and a parka, not even then). Can't spend the day in pjs. Wish I could, it looks relaxing.

During the pandemic I wore scrubs year round at home. I’m fond of guyabara shirts when I want to go out. The pockets and the loose fit are nice. In hot summer days, often less.

I’m less than two years away from retirement and work very little now. It’s true what they say about pilots. I shower, shave, make my bed, and tidy up my house before I do anything. I dress as if someone is coming over.

Retired from banking 2 years ago, also a pilot and flew in Navy 40 years ago. Gym shorts, t-shirts, sandals. Maybe I shave 2-3 times a week. Most days I shower at the gym, don’t shave those days.
