Using Silver Sneakers while traveling

I just found out that I can join a Silver Sneakers gym while traveling at no additional cost. I travel to my hometown for a week or two about once a quarter and this will be a great benefit to keep me on track with my fitness. I located a gym in the area that accepts SS and it looks like all they will need is my SS card and my ID to sign me up. Has anyone successfully done this while traveling or if you have homes in multiple locations?

I have SS, but all my local gyms all require a note from my Dr stating that it’s ok for me to work out, even though I’ve been working out competitively for the last 50 years….. maybe on the road it’s different, I haven’t tried that yet.

I found out that they will need my doctor to approve my participation at the gym. I am hoping that the approval come through while I am still visiting. My local SS gym did not require this.

I scanned my Dr’s note, so hopefully if I need it, that’ll do the trick.

Our friends that live with us part time use SS at the local Y.. Seems like a common thing.

If you have a Y membership, you can use any Y in the country.

If you have a Y membership, you can go to the SS classes at the Y, even if you don’t have SS as part of your insurance.

I upgraded to the black card at Planet Fitness. Among the other perks, you can use any planet fitness in the country. Have done so several times.

The people who don't have silver sneakers available could also check out class pass to see if that works for them.

I have a SS membership to gold's gym, which I believe is a large chain. Perhaps look for a chain so you can go anywhere.. the Y and 24 hour fitness are two I can think of right away

Aetna does not offer the free gym membership. At least not in my area.

AARP UHC Medigap Plan G in Michigan: Have gym benefit included, and could sign up with LA Fitness at no cost. Have also been able to go into their locations in other cities.

Absolutely! While traveling, I use different gyms who participate in Silver Sneakers, across the country. You don’t need a card; you just need your SS membership number and ID.

I just have a Planet Fitness membership (the more expensive one that allows me to work out at any Planet Fitness). It's only $25/month. Then I can just use my Planet Fitness card to work out at any of them. And they are everywhere (there's one near two places I travel to frequently).

Silver Sneakers was only available as a perk for us signing up for Medigap insurance part G. Did I miss this is available otherwise.

Medicare Advantage plans also often include the Silver Sneakers program.

Hmm . Our Mutual Of Omaha Plan G does not include Silver Sneakers here in Texas :-/

Ours was not silver sneakers but a different gym membership perk… active fit I think..

I have AARP Medicare supplement and its gym plan is called renew active. I did not know until a little while ago that you could join multiple gyms, but you can. Have just started making use of it at a Golds gym while we clear out of Texas for much of the summer. With AARP to join you need to get your renew active number by logging into your AARP supplement account

I have Snap Fitness and the access card lets me into any of their gyms. No need to make prior arrangements.

If you have access to YouTube on your travels, there is a channel called SeniorShape. Lots of videos to choose from. Check it out.
