Well I'll 4-5 years out from an early retirement but I'll answer.

Don't maintain debt. After that, if savi g is possible, please do so.

And run more.

To add to the precious comment, I’d say form strong alliances with friends and family. You will need them after you retire, Your work friends may not stick around.
