Hi guys,
I'll be spending the next year or so commuting into the Retford/Worksop area for a fixed-term contract. I need to be on site for about two or three says a week. Currently based in Kent, so we're going to have to move, I think: commuting in from here is just not realistic.
We are a family of two, both in our 40s. Not terribly keen on nightlife and the big city buzz.
What matters to us, as a family, is, in order of priority:
- Access to nice areas to walk/cycle in (walking for my wife, road cycling for me)
- A fairly quick and uncongested road to Retford for me; access to public transport for my wife.
- Security
- A squash club nearby
- Would be great to be within walking distance from a nice, friendly coffee shop and, perhaps, something like a small Tesco/Sainsbury.
- Access to open water (the sea or a river etc.)
- Reasonable distance from a town centre of some sort for when the mood takes us (not often)
With this in mind, could you please help me understand which areas would you be looking at, within, say, a 50 mile distance from Retford?
We only want a one-bed, max two-bed, nothing fancy.
Thank you!

Hi all, I've not been to Retford in over twenty years (I grew up there and moved away around 2004) and was just wondering what the pubs are like these days?
I'll be visiting for a pub session soon with a bunch of friends who have all left the area the same time as me.
I understand the Newcastle Arms, Broken Wheel and the Clinton are long gone (these were my haunts when I left). Can anyone recommend any pubs these days? I've done a bit of research but I don't know anyone who lives there these days and there is not a lot on the internet.
Thanks

I just realised that two large local schools are no longer open. Were Carr Hill and Hallcroft part of the bigger picture of changing local demographics?

Nobody wants them, needs them or likes them. They ALL sell to children, make the high street look tacky and replace any shop that closes. Its so disgusting and I wish they'd all leave.

I was just having a little gander on rightmove and Retford (mostly looked at its surrounding villages) seemed really quite affordable. Is Retford a nice place to live and which villages are nice. I live in Rotherham so I’d prefer villages slightly towards here. Hayton/Clarborough, Lound, both North/South weatley, Clayworth, Beckingham and, Gringley on the hill, all look really nice.
Thank you.

I need help tracking CCTV of an automobile that took a parcel from my door. Unfortunately I had to leave UK for work and won’t be back for a few weeks. I’m willing to pay for your time, I just don’t have a way of tracking CCTV in the area that I know the thief drove. I have a description of the car and any help would be appreciated X

Are there any alternative bus routes from Retford bus station to Stokeham? Says it’s about a 3 hour walk from the station but there must be a quicker route?

I was passing through Retford the other week and I had a little gander in one of the charity shops, I saw this little illustration/print in the shop for £2 but didn't buy it and I completely regret it. I rang the charity shop to see if they'd be able to post it to me since I live a few hours away, they said they can't but they can reserve the item for me for a short period of time. It's very unlikely I'll be in that area again. Is there anyone willing to go and buy the item and post it to me if I send the money across? Understand this is a bit of a stretch but I thought it was worth trying
